Adjustment Of Displaced Persons …, Vojislav Dosenovich Jan 1953

Adjustment Of Displaced Persons …, Vojislav Dosenovich

Student Work

This study concerns Displaced Persons. At the end of World War II thousands of Europeans had been displaced from their homes and countries, either as prisoners of war, slave laborers, or refugees. Many preferred to remain in exile rather than return to their native lands where political conditions had undergone radical changes. The allied forces in Germany and Italy provided shelter, food, and clothing for these people, with the United States pioneering in this activity. The United Nations Rehabilitation Act was directed to care for displaced persons before the International Refugee Organization was created in 1947.

Ethnic Assimilation: A Study Of Japanese Families In The United States And Hawaii, Kazuichi Hamasaki Jan 1953

Ethnic Assimilation: A Study Of Japanese Families In The United States And Hawaii, Kazuichi Hamasaki

Student Work

There are many definitions and possible interpretations of ethnic assimilation. It can mean anything from "elevation of economic status and adaptation to new standards of civilization, to changing of the color of skin. However, in the final analysis, ethnic assimilation divides into two phases, physical and cultural. When we speak of physical assimilation, we immediately think of two or more racees blending into a dominant race and losing all former identities. This theory of assimilation may occur in a democratic country but is most improbable.

An Ecological Study Of The Second Ward Of Omaha, James R. Mead

Student Work

An ecological study relating to sociology involves the spatial, selective and distributive functions and relations of human beings in a given geographical and cultural area. These functions and relations characterize the forms and types of social interaction. The sociological concept of the term "ecology" has been borrowed from the students of botany and zoology. Ecology has been defined as "that phase of biology that considers plants and animals as they exist in nature, and studies their interdependence, and the relation of each kind and individual to its environment. This definition is not sufficiently comprehensive to include all the elements that …

An Evaluation Of The Administrative Structure Of School Districts In Montgomery County, Iowa, Lula B. Reed

The National Commission on School District Reorganization in making its report to the public in 1950 makes this statement: School district reorganization is imperative. The Political Aspects Of School District Reorganization In Sarpy County, Nebraska, William J. Nystrom Jan 1953

The Political Aspects Of School District Reorganization In Sarpy County, Nebraska, William J. Nystrom

Student Work

The public schools in all our states are largely the product of the efforts of the citizens of local communities working under grants of privileges and authority from state legislatures. Under such a system of development, a wide variety of experiments with different plans of school district organization have been undertaken throughout the Nation. One thing is perfectly clear, school organization in our country has never been static. Scarcely anyone believes that there is any one kind of local school administrative unit that is clearly superior to all other kinds under varying conditions. School districts have continually been changing in …
