A New Testament Study Of The Problem Of Sin After Sanctification, Norval Hadley May 1953

A New Testament Study Of The Problem Of Sin After Sanctification, Norval Hadley

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Very much has been written on the subject of sanctification, but many of these writings were found to contain comparatively little clear teaching on the subject of sin after sanctification. Furthermore, there has existed in the minds of many with whom the writer has been personally acquainted some questions on this subject, indicating a need for more sound instruction in this field. This study has sought to answer some of these questions. The problem here presented was: Can a fully sanctified person sin? If so, how should sin after sanctification be explained doctrinally, and how can it be prevented experientially?

The Use Of Trap Trees For The Control Of The Engelmann Spruce Beetle, Dendroctonus Engelmanni Hopkins, David Mccomb May 1953

The Use Of Trap Trees For The Control Of The Engelmann Spruce Beetle, Dendroctonus Engelmanni Hopkins, David Mccomb

Biology

Several destructive outbreaks of the Engelmann spruce beetle in the Rocky Mountains have been reported since the turn of the century. A severe outbreak in the Sierra Blanca Mountains of New Mexico several years prior to 1907 was reported by Hopkins (1909). Hopkins in 1909 also found evidence of an epidemic that occurred about 50 years prior to that date on the Pike National Forest, and one 20 years prior to 1909 on the White River National Forest, both in Colorado. He also reported much damage on the Manti National Forest in Utah during 1905. A later epidemic, beginning about …

A Comparison Of Methods For Differentiating Sources Of Fecal Pollution Of Water, Russell S. Fraser May 1953

A Comparison Of Methods For Differentiating Sources Of Fecal Pollution Of Water, Russell S. Fraser

Biology

Winslow and Palmer (1910) stated: "Sanitarians are continually seeking and seeking in vain, for some criterion by which sewage pollution of human origin may be distinguished from surface wash and agricultural land," and conclude their study of intestinal streptococci by remarking that: "...the use of mannite broth as a differential test for streptococci of human origin would seem sufficiently promising to warrant further study."

Factors Affecting The Establishment And Spread Of The Bullfrog Rana Catesbeiana Shaw In Utah And Southern Idaho, Vance Demont Walker Jr. May 1953

Factors Affecting The Establishment And Spread Of The Bullfrog Rana Catesbeiana Shaw In Utah And Southern Idaho, Vance Demont Walker Jr.

Biology

The bullfrong Rana catesbeiana Shaw, the largest of the American frogs, is not natural to Utah, but has been introduced into several areas within the last 3 decades. Most people of Utah have never heard of bullfrogs, and fewer have seen them. The bullfrog is so different from the little leopard frog Rana Pipiens, that people who know the latter, cannot comprehend a frog having such a giant size.

The Effect Of Partial Sterilization Of Soil With Ethylene Dibromide Upon The Microbial Activities Of The Soil, Robert E. Lee May 1953

The Effect Of Partial Sterilization Of Soil With Ethylene Dibromide Upon The Microbial Activities Of The Soil, Robert E. Lee

Biology

The use of ethylene dibromide to control nematodes and wireworms in Utah soils where sugar beets and potatoes are grown has become an accepted practice. Where this soil fumigant has been used a greater plant growth and an increase in crops has been noted. This increased yield of crops has occurred following its use in the Lewiston area of Cache Valley. We have reason to believe that this increase is due to stimulation of beneficial soil microorganisms, as has been shown when older soil fumigants such as carbon disulphide and toluene have been used.

The Effect Of Injected Radioactive Phosphorus On Some Phases Of Reproduction In The Albino Rat, Arland E. Olson

Biology

Damage to the germinal tissue of the ovary by radiation was reported in 1905 by Halberstaedter and by Bergonie and Tribondeau (2). These workers stated only that X-irradiation of the ovary injured the organ and resulted in a marked decrease in size. In 1913 Lacassagne (2) reported the effects of X-irradiation on the ovary of the rabbit. After intensive study he reported that the ovary might be made sterile for a time but that recovery could take place. Primitive ova not killed at the time of irradiation would develop, and the animal could give birth to living young. Since these …

An Analysis Of The Notices Of Judgement Under The Federal Food, Drug And Costmetic Act, Laverne H. Boss

Masters Theses

Chapter I

The Problem and Its Background

Importance of Consumer Education

Today, the terms "consumer education" and "economic education" are used commonly in discussions of the public school curriculum. However, such discussions are often undertaken without a full understanding of the various implications of the terms. But, to define the terms specifically is considered by some leaders in the field to narrow their scope and application. This is clear in the statement by Wilson,1 namely, "To limit the application of consumer education to one segment or area of the school's work is to reduce its vitality." Thus consumer education …

Doctrinal Peculiarities Of The Espistle Of St James, Milo Lee May 1953

Doctrinal Peculiarities Of The Espistle Of St James, Milo Lee

Doctor of Theology Dissertation

This dissertation has attempted to underscore, not only the fact that James has in 3:13-18 a classic passage on the fruits of true wisdom, contrasted by the fruits borne by the wisdom which is from beneath, but also the call to self-examination on the part of those who are engaged actively in the work of the Church to determine honestly before God whether or not they are living and working with that humble spirit which promotes true peace between God and man, on the one hand, and man and his fellows, on the other.

A Polarographic Investigation Of The Simultaneous Determination Of Lead, Cobalt, And Manganese Found As Dryers In Paints, Michael Anthony Sweet May 1953

A Polarographic Investigation Of The Simultaneous Determination Of Lead, Cobalt, And Manganese Found As Dryers In Paints, Michael Anthony Sweet

Bachelors’ Theses

In recent years, the field of instrumental methods of chemical analysis has been rapidly growing and expanding in every branch of chemistry. At the same time, more modern scientific methods have been replacing older classical methods of formulation in the paint industry. Thus it seems that a combination of the two would prove to be a definite impetus to both the paint industry and the field of instrumental analysis.

A general liking for the surface coatings industry combined with a curiosity of the potentialities of instrumental analysis induced this student to undertake the particular problem of this thesis. First hand …

One of these problems had its' incipience with the invention of Watt's steam engine. In short, it was the formation of scale in the boiler preventing an efficient heat transfer.

Anther Development In A Male Sterile Line Of Corn, Richard J. Vogl May 1953

Anther Development In A Male Sterile Line Of Corn, Richard J. Vogl

Bachelors’ Theses

Production of viable pollen through growth and differentiation of the anther appears to depend on the interaction of the tapetum and sporogenous tissue. Very little is known about the nature of this interaction. One way to approach this problem is to study the development of the anther in cases where no viable pollen grains are produced. Highly inbred lines of male sterile corn which are completely pollen sterile have been obtained and are available for study.

The Determination Of Chlorine In Alkyl Chlorobenzoates To Establish Their Identity And Purity, Clifford R. Berres May 1953

The Determination Of Chlorine In Alkyl Chlorobenzoates To Establish Their Identity And Purity, Clifford R. Berres

Bachelors’ Theses

Four years ago an investigation began at Marquette University with the purpose of determining the value of alkyl chlorobenzoates as derivatives for alcohols in characterization work. The outcome of this initial investigation was the preparation of thirty compounds previously unreported in the literature, namely, the methyl through decyl, nonyl excepted, ortho- and para-chlorobenzoates, and 2,4 and 3,4 dichlorobenzoates. The method of preparation and physical constants of these compounds were determined by Mr. Robert Johnson who presented a thesis on the "Preparation of Alkyl Chlorobenzoates and Their Application as Alcohol Derivatives" in June, 1949.

A continuance of this investigation was undertaken …

Industrial Arts In Utah--Its Introduction And Development, Charles W. Hailes

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

For the past few years many questions have been asked about the growth and development of the industrial arts program in Utah. Many of these questions could not be answered by leading educators. Thus, it is hoped that with the information presented in this report enlightenment may be given to unanswered questions.

The roots of present-day concepts and practices of industrial arts in Utah extend back about fifty years to the first schools established by the Mormon pioneers. The first school, in its simple setting, faced such issues as: What kind of industrial arts training shall be provided? How much …

An Analysis Of School Drop-Outs At Tooele High School, Franklin Whitehouse May 1953

An Analysis Of School Drop-Outs At Tooele High School, Franklin Whitehouse

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This study of approximately 50 early school drop-outs is an effort to find out why so many boys and girls leave school before they complete their high school course. We need to know the basic reasons that prompt their decisions, not the superficial excuses that appear on many school records. The study was undertaken in the belief that when the causes are understood, they can be remedied through measures to provide adequate programs of student aid. If it is because of lack of interest in school, this, too, can be remedied through changes in school programs to make them mean …
