A Study Of Certain Atmospheric Effects On Radar Accuracy, Kenneth R. Swimm Dec 1963

A Study Of Certain Atmospheric Effects On Radar Accuracy, Kenneth R. Swimm

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

Along with other factors, accurate radar target location is dependent upon a knowledge of the electromagnetic propagation path. The propagation path is a function of the characteristics of the medium through which the signal travels. Advances in the resolution capabilities of modern electronic tracking equipment have led to requirements for more accurate prediction of atmospheric refraction characteristics. The inherent error of the equipment is, in many cases, less than the error introduced by the atmospheric refractive effects. After corrections to observed launch angle and target range have been made on the basis of atmospheric refraction information, residual errors in range …

The Effect Of Thrust On The Development Of Strength With The Mead Refiner, G. Hayward Dec 1963

The Effect Of Thrust On The Development Of Strength With The Mead Refiner, G. Hayward

Paper Engineering Senior Theses

Several different thrust pressures were exerted on the plates of the Mead Laboratory Refiner and pulp samples were refined over a wide freeness range for each of the several pressures. The strength characteristics developed were measured and it was found that maximum burst and tensile strength was developed by a thrust pressure of 31.22 pounds. Maximum tearing strength was developed at a thrust pressure of 25.94 pounds.

The refining time required to reach a given freeness increased as as the thrust was reduced, but reached a maximum at 20.66 pounds and remained constant for lesser pressures.

A Suggested Initial Administrative Structure For A Contemplated Community College In Walla Walla, George W. Pennell

Graduate Student Research Papers

Responsible local educational and community leaders determined in 1961 that all legal criteria for the establishment of a community college in Walla Walla [Washington] had been met. They subsequently have been faced with many phases of preplanning activity. Among the problems requiring solution have been: the acquisition of adequate physical facilities, the determination of an operational financial plan, the establishment of accurate and efficient enrollment procedures, and the organization of an instructional and administrative staff. Much of the pre-planning has been completed. This study was designed to contribute to the thinking of the Board and staff of Walla Walla Public …

Relationships Within And Between The 1960 Stanford-Binet L-M And The Goodenough Intelligence Test With Intellectually Sub-Average Children, Frederick M. Rudie

Student Work

The examination of relationships within and between the 1960 Stanford-Binet and the Goodenough Intelligence Test provided the basis for this thesis, Before considering the relationships, some background on the testing movement, Binet Scales, Stanford-Binet, Goodenough Draw- A-Man Test, Stanford-Binet vocabulary subtest* Stanford-Binet scatter, and the slow learner would prove useful.

I. Preparation And Properties Of Alkyl And Aryl Substituted Thioquinazolines And Sulfoxides ; Ii. An Investigation Of The Quinazoline 3-Oxide--1,4-Benzodiazepine 4-Oxide Rearrangement, Marvin C. J. Kuchar

Theses and Dissertations

I. The quinazolines, a branch of the benzodiazine class of aromatic nitrogen hetercycles, do not occur to any great extent in naturally occurring compounds. The discovery of the antimalarial febrifugine and its structure elucidation led to the preparation and investigation of a host of new quinazolines in the search for new and more effective antimalarials. Most of the present body of information governing the quinazolines arose out of these synthetic studies. The present study has been accomplished with a four-fold purpose in mind: (1) to investigate the susceptibility of chloroquinazolines to nucleophilic displacement reactions by thiols or their salts, (2) …

A Commentary On The 'Terrible' Sonnets Of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Sr. Paul Augusta Trudeau Nov 1963

A Commentary On The 'Terrible' Sonnets Of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Sr. Paul Augusta Trudeau

English Language and Literature ETDs

My method of research was determined by the poet's method of writing. Hopkins does not use language as he finds it but wrings from words and word groupings as much function and meaning as possible. Thus, there are words in his poetry which fit poetically in context, but it is necessary to delve into their obsolete or other remote meanings to obtain an understanding of the precise idea expressed or to obtain its enriching implications. Because of this, my research began in the New English Dictionary, where even the seemingly obvious words were looked up to bring out the …

Energy Migration In Rare Earth Complexes, John Jerome Freeman Nov 1963

Energy Migration In Rare Earth Complexes, John Jerome Freeman

Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs

Complexes of trivalent samarium, europium, terbium, and dysprosium were prepared for investigations of the luminescence properties of complexed rare earth ions. Rare earth chilates derived from benzoylacetone, dibenzoylmethane, and acetylacetone; rare earth chlorides solvated with water and deuterium oxide; and rare earth oxides dissolved in sodium metaphosphate glasses were synthesized for these studies.

Calvinism In England During The Reformation Period As Seen In The Formularies Of The Established Church, Walter Sohn Nov 1963

Calvinism In England During The Reformation Period As Seen In The Formularies Of The Established Church, Walter Sohn

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The object of this thesis is to trace the introduction of Calvinism into the official and unofficial formularies of the Church of England during the Reformation period. Calvinism is defined as any distinctive theological teaching advocated by John Calvin, the leader of the Reformed Church during the middle of the sixteenth century. The official formularies were the confessional statements and prescribed forms of worship ordered to be used in the established Church by the English monarch. The unofficial formularies were theological writings approved by Convocation of the English clergy. While used in the Church, they had neither the approval of …

Renaissance, Reform And Revolution: A Study Of The Effects Of The May 4 Protest On These Movements In China, 1919-1921, Marie-Louise Gebhardt

Student Work

What was there about the Shantung Decision to stir the Chinese people so? Why did this particular diplomatic defeat incur such wrath? Who would have thought that the carefree Chinese felt so strongly about his country? For that matter, when had the Chinese begun to take an interest in his country? Where had he learned about international affaire? How had this all come about? Many were the foreigners in China who puzzled over these questions. China was changing before their eyes and they didn’t know what to make of it. The Shantung Decision started it all, some of them said. …

(2) What interpersonal techniques are most used by nursing personnel in the emergency room? (3) Does the type of patient influence the therapeutic or nontherapeutic interaction of the nursing personnel in the …

Radiochemical Studies: Isotopic Exchange Reactions, Solvent Effects, Preparation And Properties Of Carrier-Free Amalgams, Hans L. Hamster Sep 1963

Radiochemical Studies: Isotopic Exchange Reactions, Solvent Effects, Preparation And Properties Of Carrier-Free Amalgams, Hans L. Hamster

Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs

The work described in this section is concerned with the kinetics of an SN2 reaction, the isotopic exchange reaction between iodide ions and p-nitrobenzyl iodide, carried out in an aprotic solvent, acetone, in the presence of various substituted phenols and anisole. This reaction was carried out at concentration of potassium iodide low enough to insure the absence of ion pairs.
