The Impact Of Employment On Sense Of Belonging And Metacognitive Awareness: A Mixed-Methods Study Of Undergraduate Students’ Mathematical Performance, Erin Ryan May 2026

The Impact Of Employment On Sense Of Belonging And Metacognitive Awareness: A Mixed-Methods Study Of Undergraduate Students’ Mathematical Performance, Erin Ryan

Theses

This study investigated how employment intensity affects two critical factors for academic success: a student’s sense of belonging and their metacognitive awareness (the ability to monitor and manage their own learning). Using a mixed-methods approach at the Rochester Institute of Technology, we analyzed survey data through multi-level modeling and conducted qualitative interviews to capture the personal experiences of employed students. Results reveal that students working off-campus for more than eleven hours a week showed significantly lower sense of belonging and metacognitive awareness scores than unemployed students. However, on-campus employment did not show the same effect. Both quantitative and qualitative results …

Toward Autonomous Wireless Networks: Spatio-Temporal Prediction Via Physics-Aware Generative Ai Models, Rahul Gulia May 2026

Toward Autonomous Wireless Networks: Spatio-Temporal Prediction Via Physics-Aware Generative Ai Models, Rahul Gulia

Theses

The realization of fully autonomous Industry 4.0 environments depends on wireless networks that are not merely connected, but predictively aware—capable of anticipating channel degradation before it disrupts mission-critical operations. In dynamic industrial environments such as automated warehouses, radio frequency propagation is governed by dense metallic infrastructure, continuously moving obstacles, and frequent line-of-sight to non-line-of-sight transitions that render the channel non-stationary and spatiotemporally complex. Conventional approaches face a fundamental dichotomy: deterministic simulators such as ray-tracing and NS-3 achieve high physical fidelity but require up to 38 hours to generate a single high-resolution SINR heatmap, making real-time adaptation computationally infeasible; empirical and …

An Overdue Message: Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening Rates Among Black Residents Of Massachusetts, Lauren R. Ritterband May 2026

An Overdue Message: Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening Rates Among Black Residents Of Massachusetts, Lauren R. Ritterband

Capstones

Colorectal cancer is widely understood as a potentially devastating diagnosis. Late-stage diagnosis portends a high likelihood of morbidity and mortality, in stark contrast to survival rates for patients whose cancer is diagnosed when localized. Early detection through screening is therefore of critical importance. Black residents of Massachusetts have a higher incidence of colorectal cancer than white residents and are more likely to be diagnosed at stage four. Lower screening rates amongst Black residents represent one of multiple factors leading to worse morbidity and mortality from colorectal cancer. Despite clear recommendations from the US Preventive Services Task Force [USPSTF] that all …

Developing A Method For Controlled Substance Analysis Using Lcms For Future Dart Ms Applications, Carol N. Muñiz Silva

Honors Theses

Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is an analytical technique used to separate and identify compounds and is widely applied in forensic toxicology and controlled substance analysis due to its strong capabilities in detection, identification, and quantification. In this experiment, a method for analyzing acetaminophen was developed using mobile phases of 0.1% formic acid in water and 0.1% formic acid in methanol. Method development focused on adjusting elution time, mobile-phase gradient, and injection volume. The optimized method produced reliable analysis of acetaminophen across 100–7500 ng/mL. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through chromatograms and mass spectra of the prepared solutions. Although a …

The Paradox Of Ambition:Global South Leadership And Brazil's Stalled Rise To Global Power, Valentinna De Melo Ferrarini May 2026

The Paradox Of Ambition:Global South Leadership And Brazil's Stalled Rise To Global Power, Valentinna De Melo Ferrarini

Honors Theses

Brazil possesses the material resources, territorial size, and regional influence typically associated with global powers, yet remains excluded from recognition as one. This thesis examines how Brazil's leadership of the Global South has shaped and at times constrained its ambition to become more than a middle power. Using Wang and Chen's comprehensive national power measurements, it tracks Brazil's dramatic trajectory: a 72% increase in national power between 2005 and 2010, followed by a 43% decline by 2020. To explain this reversal, the thesis develops a delta framework identifying six key impediments: regional leadership failure, recognition deficit, military limitations, political instability, …

Measuring The Exorbitant Privilege: A Unified Estimate Of The Financial Benefits Of Dollar Dominance, 1976–2024, Carson T. Weeks

Honors Theses

This paper constructs a unified annual time series of the major measurable components of the United States' exorbitant privilege from 1976 to 2024. Drawing on established econometric estimates from the literature, it measures three channels through which the international role of the dollar generates financial benefits for the United States: seigniorage from foreign holdings of physical currency, borrowing cost savings on federal debt arising from reserve-driven demand for Treasuries, and the return differential on the U.S. external balance sheet, covering both public and private holdings. All dollar figures are reported in real 2024 dollars, deflated by the Consumer Price Index. …

Information Usage As A Performance Driver In Supply Chains: Integrating Machine Learning, Structural Modeling, And Efficiency Analysis, Asli Z. Dag May 2026

Information Usage As A Performance Driver In Supply Chains: Integrating Machine Learning, Structural Modeling, And Efficiency Analysis, Asli Z. Dag

Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses

The present study investigates ways in which companies utilize information to improve suppliers’ performance within their supply chains. In the literature, the existing studies focus largely on information sharing between companies and suppliers, while less is known about how organizations then apply shared information during decision-making in ways that impact outcomes for suppliers. Importantly, the extant research demonstrates that information sharing can improve the visibility of issues arising along the supply chain, raise the coordination between those within the chain, and reduce uncertainty about the necessary supply and demand; however, the benefits in these areas remain limited unless the relevant …

Exploring Virtual Nurse Perceptions Of Caring Through Acute Care Teleconferencing, Monika Lu

Doctoral Projects

Virtual nursing programs have emerged as innovative solutions to address hospital operational challenges and workforce shortages. However, concerns remain about the potential for decreased human connection in telehealth environments. Limited evidence exists regarding virtual nurses’ perceptions of caring behaviors and their ability to develop therapeutic relationships through teleconferencing technology. Purpose: This exploratory study examined virtual nurses’ (ViRNs) perceptions of caring and identified strategies for fostering patient relationships in telehealth settings. Methods: A mixed-methods custom survey was distributed to 25 eligible ViRNs at Stanford Health Care, with 19 respondents (76% response rate). ViRN caring perceptions were measured quantitatively using a 5-point …

Spatializing Hybrid Identities: Creating A Third Space For East-Asian Americans, Tina Wong May 2026

Spatializing Hybrid Identities: Creating A Third Space For East-Asian Americans, Tina Wong

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

Hyper-globalization transformed cultural boundaries and experiences. Identities are

no longer bound to a single construct—but forged at the intersection of complex and

layered vectors of belonging, especially those with multi-cultural backgrounds.

For many Americans with ethnic backgrounds, a sense of belonging is

fragmented, as their identities are stretched across multiple cultural frameworks. The

built environment of the American cities rarely reflect hybrid identities or collective

narratives- leading to misrepresentation and cultural invisibility. How can architecture create a space representative of such hybrid identities? How can design help foster a sense of belonging for hyphenated identities, particularly for East-Asian Americans? This …

From Spectator To Actor: The Drive-In Cinema As Movement On The Blue Ridge Parkway, Jacob Gonzalez May 2026

From Spectator To Actor: The Drive-In Cinema As Movement On The Blue Ridge Parkway, Jacob Gonzalez

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

This thesis argues that architecture is not experienced as static form, but as something constructed through movement. It reconsiders the declining drive-in cinema typology not as a destination for passive viewing, but as a spatial system where movement and perception are actively choreographed.

The project asks: how can architectural movement transform the drive-in from a static act of viewing into a dynamic, cinematic experience?

Drawing from montage theory in film, particularly the work of Sergei Eisenstein, this thesis understands meaning as something constructed through sequence (through order, duration, repetition, and rhythm). Bernard Tschumi’s translation of these ideas into architecture informs …

From Passage To Place: Reimagining The Transit Hub, Amber Henry May 2026

From Passage To Place: Reimagining The Transit Hub, Amber Henry

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

Transit hubs are a vital backbone for commuters in major US cities. Despite this backbone, the design priority of the transit hubs is not given the same commitment. When designing transit hubs, there is a focus on the circulation of the hub, often neglecting community engagement and the opportunity to design the space for more than just a transit center. This hyper fixation on circulation just exacerbates the problem of lost space within the urban city. Lost space is the space that is left over and unused due to urban blight. Urban blight occurred in the mid-20th century with people …

A Place To Return: Reimagining Rehabilitation Through Architecture In Tijuana, Mexico, Karen J. Reyes May 2026

A Place To Return: Reimagining Rehabilitation Through Architecture In Tijuana, Mexico, Karen J. Reyes

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

Addiction in Mexico is often associated with stigma, isolation, and institutional models of rehabilitation that reinforce punishment rather than healing. Many rehabilitation centers remain socially invisible, poorly maintained, and disconnected from the communities they aim to serve, particularly in border cities such as Tijuana, where displacement, instability, and addiction frequently intersect. The project responds to these conditions by exploring how architecture can redefine rehabilitation as a process rooted in dignity, belonging, and renewal rather than shame and confinement.

Grounded in Aaron Antonovsky’s Salutogenic Model and theories of community-centered healing, the proposal reimagines recovery through the concept of work as therapy. …

Cultural Competency Beyond The Classroom: Employing Visual Culture Art Education In Museums, Kaylee Long May 2026

Cultural Competency Beyond The Classroom: Employing Visual Culture Art Education In Museums, Kaylee Long

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

In an increasingly diverse and media-dominated world, critical thinking and cultural competency have become crucial skills. Visual Culture Art Education (VCAE), a pedagogy employed in the formal education setting, serves as an effective practice to foster these skills. Although not explicitly employed, elements of VCAE are found in museums. As VCAE has shown success in the classroom environment, museums can supplement their current practices through the conscious use of this pedagogy. Through a multi-site case study of five art museums in the Mid-Atlantic region, this project aimed to find ways that VCAE practices could be adapted into the museum setting.

Performance Analysis Of Video Coding For Machines With Vision Transformers, Vaishnavi Dhulipudi May 2026

Performance Analysis Of Video Coding For Machines With Vision Transformers, Vaishnavi Dhulipudi

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates the performance of Video Coding for Machines (VCM) with Vision Transformer based object detection models. While existing VCM studies and tool designs have largely been developed under CNN-based assumptions, recent advances in computer vision have shown the growing importance of transformer based models. Motivated by this shift, this work studies whether VCM compressed data remains suitable for Vision Transformer based inference in addition to conventional CNN-based task networks.

To address this problem, three representative transformer based object detection models were selected: DETR, SWIN, and YOLOS. These models were chosen to represent different architectural styles, namely a CNN …

Space For Life Below, Anthony J. Iadevaio May 2026

Space For Life Below, Anthony J. Iadevaio

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

Architecture is traditionally understood as the design of spaces for people. Buildings, cities, and landscapes are typically evaluated through how humans move through them, occupy them, and experience them. My thesis begins by asking a simple shift in perspective: what happens when architecture is designed not for humans, but for other living beings, specifically aquatic life?

My research focuses on understanding how spatial design principles can be used to create better environments for fish and aquatic ecosystems. Rather than treating aquariums as decorative objects or displays for human enjoyment, I approach them as lived-in spaces where fish are the primary …

Designing Through Perception: Testing Spatial Regulation Using Virtual Reality, Denisse Rosa May 2026

Designing Through Perception: Testing Spatial Regulation Using Virtual Reality, Denisse Rosa

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

College students across the United States are experiencing high levels of stress, sensory fatigue, and burnout, yet most academic environments are not designed to support mental well-being. Research in biophilic design and environmental psychology shows that warm materials, natural light, and intentionally organized sensory zones can reduce academic stress and create conditions for calm and focus. This thesis explores how neuro-inclusive and biophilic design principles can reshape learning spaces into environments that actively support student wellness. The framework development and virtual reality testing documented here represent the completed phase of this research; formal data collection with human participants constitutes the …

In Search Of Design Process : A Computational Framework For Meaningful Form, Mario A. Vaquiz

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

In Search of Design Process : A Computational Framework for Meaningful Form

Imagine walking through your hometown, a place where identity, culture, memory, and collective resilience should be visible within the built environment. As cities continue to develop, new buildings rise from the ground, yet many remain indistinguishable glass boxes. They are efficient and visually neutral, but they fail to reflect the depth of culture, the struggles of communities, or the meaning embedded within place. These buildings fulfill functional requirements, but they often lack intentional expression. They exist, but they do not speak.

In Search of the Design Process begins …

Apoe Ε2 Potential Protection Against Long-Term Consequences Of Traumatic Brain Injury, Rebecca Faith Mesidort

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can alter the quality of life, often resulting in cognitive decline, neurodegeneration, or death. There have been no biological advances to resolve the long-term consequences of TBI. The APOE ε2 gene is well known as a neuroprotectant against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. However, the biological mechanisms of how APOE ε2 protects against neurodegeneration are unknown. The purpose of this study is to investigate APOE ε2’s response to an environmental stimulus that leads to neurodegeneration, TBI, and further investigate APOE ε2’s biological mechanisms. After inflicting blunt force trauma to our model organism, …

Fifty Years And Counting: Middle School Principals’ Experiences, Beliefs, And Preparation For Serving Students Of Color With Disabilities, Lourdes Rodriguez Flores May 2026

Fifty Years And Counting: Middle School Principals’ Experiences, Beliefs, And Preparation For Serving Students Of Color With Disabilities, Lourdes Rodriguez Flores

LMU Theses and Dissertations

This study explored how middle school principals understand and support students of color with disabilities (SOCWD) on comprehensive school campuses. This topic is deeply personal and professional, shaped by my experiences as a mother, special education teacher, and district leader who has witnessed ongoing challenges in how schools serve students with disabilities, especially Black and Brown students. Guided by Disability Critical Race Theory (DisCrit; Annamma et al., 2013) and Social Justice Leadership (Theoharis, 2007), this study examined how race and disability intersect in school systems and influence leadership decisions, practices, and access to opportunity. Using a qualitative approach, I conducted …

Built For The Moment: Creating Temporary Hotel Architecture With Prefabrication For Transit-Oriented Development Along Marta Stations, Joshua D. Aicher

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

This thesis explores an architectural approach to addressing temporary population increases caused by large sporting events through flexible, prefabricated structures that adapt to varying sites and programmatic needs. The project is situated in the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, where host cities face significant pressure to accommodate short-term population surges. Typically, cities invest heavily in roads, transit, and hotels to support these events which are then abandoned or underutilized after events. While cities such as London 2012 Olympic Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games leveraged existing, mature transit networks to absorb this increased demand, …
