Point-Of-Generation Pfas Capture And Destruction For Manufacturing Emissions: An Open Technical Disclosure For Industry, Ernest N. Sumrall
Defensive Publications Series
This defensive publication discloses an integrated system for capturing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at their point of generation in manufacturing processes and destroying them on site. Process emissions containing PFCAs, PFSAs, perfluoroalkane sulfonamides, and functionalized perfluoropolyethers are captured under negative pressure and transferred into a circulating water loop by fine-bubble scrubbing, exploiting the surfactant character of PFAS; foam fractionation concentrates the compounds into a minimal liquid volume. The concentrate is pre-treated in a closed-loop hydrodynamic cavitation stage — high-to-low pressure nozzle transitions into a low-pressure collision chamber, with a pump drawing suction from the low-pressure chamber and discharging into …

Paired Price-Vs-Departure-Duration Charts As A Direct Selection Surface For Round-Trip Flight Itineraries, Laurent Tran
Paired Price-Vs-Departure-Duration Charts As A Direct Selection Surface For Round-Trip Flight Itineraries, Laurent Tran
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes a user-interface technique for selecting the two legs of a round-trip (or, more generally, a multi-leg) air itinerary directly from data-visualization charts rather than from a ranked textual list. Two coordinated charts — one for the outbound leg and one for the return leg — each plot every candidate flight offer at a position determined by its price along one axis and its departure time along the other axis, and each chart serves as the primary selection control: a traveler chooses a leg by activating the graphical mark that represents a flight. The two charts are coupled, …

Reinforcement Learning-Based Anti-False Triggering Onlooker Detection System And Method, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
A reinforcement learning-based anti-false triggering onlooker detection system and method for intelligent laptops are disclosed to mitigate alert fatigue and accidental lockouts caused by dynamic environments. The system continuously captures multi-modal environmental status information via a sensor module. When the status satisfies a low-power threshold, a primary trigger processor awakens a backend reinforcement learning decision engine, which outputs a graded defense action based on a dynamic confidence threshold. Within a predefined observation window following the action, the system captures implicit user feedback to calculate a reward signal, updating policy network parameters in real time. The invention significantly improves triggering accuracy, …
Vision-Centric Multimodal System For False-Positive Mitigation Via Lightweight Wireless-Acoustic Verification, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure details a vision-centric multimodal system for mitigating false-positive face detections on portable computing devices. The system distinguishes physical human users from 2D media displays—including high-resolution photographs and digital screens—by cross-referencing a primary computer vision module with lightweight acoustic source localization and Wi-Fi channel state analysis. By evaluating the spatiotemporal synchronization among visual facial features, auditory signals, and wireless ambient micro-movements, the system identifies and suppresses non-physical facial entities in real-time. Crucially, this multi-modal pipeline operates locally on low-power edge hardware without invoking the primary application processor or relying on neural network acceleration, thereby maximizing energy efficiency and ensuring …

Defensive Publications Series
This device relates to a platen configuration for large‑format printers that include removable media edge holders. The device introduces a dedicated parking zone in which a portion of the platen surface is recessed by several millimeters. This defined zone allows edge holders to be positioned below the operational envelope of the carriage when not in use. As a result, mechanical interference and collision risks are significantly reduced.
1 Step Isolation Of Bad Pens Via Probability Algo, Hp Inc
1 Step Isolation Of Bad Pens Via Probability Algo, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
1 step isolation of bad pens via probability algo is a scalable solution to isolate bad pen for printers that share a common Vpp power to 2 or more pens via a simple firmware(FW) upgrade or FW upgrade with additional 2 simple passive component(s).
Low cost printers uses common Vpp(32V power to the pen) and Vdd(5-5.5V) for both pens, with no additional switch to isolate power to K(Black) and CMY(Cyan Magenta Yellow) pen
Thus when Vpp(32V) or Vdd short happens, ink short test is unable to isolate which pen is shorted, the printer needs to reject both pens.

Interaction-Aware Mixed-Precision Quantization Profiling For Neural Networks, Sergiu Calmic, Joseph Demian
Defensive Publications Series
Large artificial intelligence (AI) models consume substantial memory. Although reducing the numerical precision of model weights through quantization can help, choosing the appropriate precision for each layer is an exponentially complex problem complicated by unpredictable interactions between layers. Proposed herein is a profiling framework that explicitly measures cross-layer interactions and uses a multi-stage search pipeline to reduce trillions of candidate configurations to a few hundred targeted evaluations. Built-in safety margins and repair mechanisms help ensure that the final quantization plan meets a user-specified quality threshold. Experiments across multiple architectures demonstrated memory savings of 29-75% while maintaining strict quality limits and …

Dnp Final Report: Enhancing Self-Regulated Learning And Metacognition For First-Semester Undergraduate Nursing Students, Carla S. Biondillo
Dnp Final Report: Enhancing Self-Regulated Learning And Metacognition For First-Semester Undergraduate Nursing Students, Carla S. Biondillo
DNP Final Reports
Background. First-year undergraduate nursing students often struggle to adapt their learning strategies to the higher-order thinking and clinical reasoning demands of nursing education. Ineffective study habits, low academic self-efficacy, and limited self-regulated learning (SRL) skills are consistently identified as predictors of attrition, which ranges from 20–50% nationally and internationally.
Purpose. At an academic medical center in rural East Texas, first-semester students report academic overwhelm and inadequate study strategies, consistent with national trends. A structured, evidence-based faculty coaching intervention targeting SRL and metacognition was found to be feasible within the collaborative, student-centered organizational culture.
Methods. A quality improvement (QI) design …

Simulations Of Skyrmions And Merons, Ryan Friesen, Aidan Kirk, Tom Carroll, Xuemei Cheng
Physics and Astronomy Summer Fellows
Skyrmions and merons are particle-like spin structures that are found in specific magnetic materials. Due to their stability and nanoscale size, these quasiparticles have been proposed as promising candidates for qubits in quantum computing applications. Our goal is to design materials that can host and stabilize these quasiparticles. Skyrmions and merons exist only under specific conditions, and the parameter space for these materials is vast. Thus, we use the simulation package MuMax3 to run simulations to test the viability of potential materials to simplify this search. We present on our simulations of these skyrmions and merons. Locoregional Therapy Pressure-Enabled Drug Delivery For Liver Cancers, Thomas Eggleston, Bassem Fayek, Jacqueline Kowalke, Mina Makary
Student Papers, Posters & Projects
Hepatic malignancies account for a substantial portion of global cancer mortality, with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHC), and metastatic liver disease representing the most common diagnoses. While surgical resection and liver transplantation remain curative options for eligible patients, most patients are diagnosed at stages unsuitable for surgery. This has shifted medical management towards locoregional therapies (LRTs) which are often catheter-directed. Of these interventions, the use of conventional end-hole catheters for therapeutic infusion has been a mainstay of treatment, but this method is constrained by retrograde particle escape and elevated tumoral interstitial fluid pressure. Together, these factors limit drug penetration …

Multitrophic interactions can strongly influence the structure and functioning of ecosystems, but how plant diversity influences the direction and predictability of multitrophic interactions across agricultural and natural ecosystems remains unclear. Using 149 field studies across five continents, we found that, on average, increasing plant diversity tended to exert differential top-down and bottom-up effects in croplands versus grasslands and forests. Organic and nonorganic croplands exhibited 846 and 148% higher invertebrate natural enemy-to-herbivore abundance ratios under increased plant diversity, consistent with top-down control patterns where predator gains cause herbivore declines, enhancing crop outcomes. In grasslands and forests, increasing plant diversity was associated …
