Input-Gated Structural-Class Selection To Prevent Fabricated Personal Narrative In Ai-Generated Content, Vipul Panday Aug 2026

Input-Gated Structural-Class Selection To Prevent Fabricated Personal Narrative In Ai-Generated Content, Vipul Panday

Defensive Publications Series

An AI system that offers a “personal narrative” output style (first-person stories, career milestones, and similar) will, absent real grounding material from the actual person it writes for, produce plausible-sounding but fabricated personal anecdotes, such as invented mistakes, invented moments, invented lessons, attributed to a real, named individual. In a professional publishing context, where the output is posted under that person's real name, this is a specific and consequential failure mode, distinct from generic chatbot hallucination, because it makes a false factual claim about a real person's lived experience. This disclosure documents a production mechanism that addresses this failure mode …

Comparing Student-Centered And Traditional Approaches In Mandatory Middle School Music, Charmian Cavanagh Aug 2026

Comparing Student-Centered And Traditional Approaches In Mandatory Middle School Music, Charmian Cavanagh

Masters Theses

The purpose of this applied research study is to examine the effectiveness of a traditional theory-based music curriculum compared with an alternative, practice-centered curriculum on the motivation, engagement, and learning outcomes of middle school students enrolled in mandatory general music classes at an inner-city school in Camden, New Jersey. Theory instruction has long served as a foundation of music education; however, many students in required general music settings demonstrate low engagement and limited long-term connection to musical study. Research will explore whether a curriculum that prioritizes creativity, cultural relevance, and active music-making better supports student interest and achievement. Findings will …

Past The Watchful Dragons: How C. S. Lewis’S Fiction Humanizes The Analytical Framework Of The Problem Of Pain, Charlotte L. Hambrick Aug 2026

Past The Watchful Dragons: How C. S. Lewis’S Fiction Humanizes The Analytical Framework Of The Problem Of Pain, Charlotte L. Hambrick

Masters Theses

C. S. Lewis was one of the 20th century’s greatest Christian apologists. Writing across multiple genres—from academic literary criticism to lay sermons, and from philosophical and theological analysis to several kinds of fiction—his impact on Christian thought remains profound. This thesis analyzes Lewis’s approach to the intellectual problem of evil in The Problem of Pain and demonstrates how he makes those starkly cold, prickly concepts more warm, human, and relatable in several of his works of fiction. It will first consider Lewis’s personal history with death, abuse, war, and grief, showing how his lived experiences with pain shaped his thinking …

The Dream Itself Was Home”: Imaginary Homelands As A Model For Analyzing Contemporary African Return Narratives, Renee King Aug 2026

The Dream Itself Was Home”: Imaginary Homelands As A Model For Analyzing Contemporary African Return Narratives, Renee King

Masters Theses

Although contemporary African return narratives featuring female protagonists explore a wide range of themes, they consistently portray women who struggle to situate themselves within an increasingly globalized world. In these narratives, the homeland initially functions as a stabilizing anchor that emboldens the protagonist to pursue education or employment abroad, yet works such as Doreen Baingana’s Tropical Fish and Chimamanda Adichie’s Americanah reveal that the homeland the protagonists once treated as immutable ultimately exposes itself as a dream. This destabilization unsettles the notion of an unshakeable cultural identity and demonstrates how migration reshapes both the self and the meaning of home. …

Co-Dominion: The Changing Nature Of The Adamic Covenant In An Age Of Artificial Intelligence, Corey Hastings Aug 2026

Co-Dominion: The Changing Nature Of The Adamic Covenant In An Age Of Artificial Intelligence, Corey Hastings

Masters Theses

Theologians and religious bodies attest to the rising influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in governments, the economy, and the lives of the people of God. Through the covenant with Adam, God gave humans the blessing of dominion and capabilities unique to creation to till the earth. Today, humans retain the image of God but AI increasingly displaces human functions with coordinated agency. Using Hebrew language exegesis of passages from Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus, this study compares capabilities gifted to humans with the scope of current and near future AI models. It incorporates direct artifact analysis of a large-language model as …

A Biblical Understanding Of Discipleship As A Pedagogy For The Fear Of The Lord, Desirae Jeffreys Aug 2026

A Biblical Understanding Of Discipleship As A Pedagogy For The Fear Of The Lord, Desirae Jeffreys

Masters Theses

The fear of the Lord is a significant topic found throughout scripture, yet it is a concept that lacks recognition in our culture, and even in some churches today. The reality is that there is confusion about how to define the fear of the Lord and, thereby, confusion about how to teach the fear of the Lord. This thesis provides a biblical understanding of the fear of the Lord as described in Proverbs 1–9. The fear of God is evaluated through the lens of instruction throughout these chapters, providing a basis of understanding for the complexity of the definition of …

Gendered Ecologies—Gendered Eponyms: Absence, Presence, And Representation Of Women Within Living Memorials, Grace West, Mark Rhodes, Ila Swier, Lily Klanderman, Josephine Amponsem Aug 2026

Gendered Ecologies—Gendered Eponyms: Absence, Presence, And Representation Of Women Within Living Memorials, Grace West, Mark Rhodes, Ila Swier, Lily Klanderman, Josephine Amponsem

Michigan Tech Publications

Eponyms serve as one of our most common and banal forms of commemoration, naming things through references to people. While place names, such as streets or towns, can be eponyms, so too can everyday things, like birds or plants. Our work focuses on one specific form of commemorative eponym: the naming of fruit, vegetable, and grain varieties after women. We ask whether eponyms follow similar gender norms, at least in the United States, as our broader memorial landscapes. Despite global pressures toward more equality within memorial landscapes, women continue to be far underrepresented. Given the pervasiveness of eponyms, we also …

Understanding The Lived Experiences Of Autistic Students As They Navigate Nutrition In Higher Education: A Hermeneutic Study, Amanda Beeman

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study is to interpret how adult students with ASD in higher education navigate nutritional choices. This study was guided by Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, which explains the relationship between environmental factors and individual health and well-being. A hermeneutic phenomenological approach was used to examine how students with ASD experienced nutrition within the higher education environment. The central research question asked how adult higher education students with ASD experienced and navigated nutrition in the context of college life. The sample included 10 adult participants with ASD enrolled in a higher education institution. Data were collected …

Beyond The Stage: Rural Music Educators' Perceptions Of Educational Travel, Andrew Ford Rewerts Aug 2026

Beyond The Stage: Rural Music Educators' Perceptions Of Educational Travel, Andrew Ford Rewerts

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Despite the recognized value of educational travel for student musicians, research on performance-based trips for middle and high school ensembles, particularly in rural communities, remains limited. This gap in the literature hinders understanding of how travel experiences can benefit students in these unique contexts, where financial constraints, geographic isolation, and smaller ensemble sizes can limit access to performance-based travel opportunities. Rural student musicians may consequently miss out on potential benefits, including enhanced motivation, ensemble cohesion, and social development. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to examine rural middle and high school music ensemble directors' perceptions of how performance-based …

Droplet Clustering Signatures Of Entrainment In Clouds, Suryadev Pratap Singh, Michael Larsen, Jesse Anderson, Hamed F. Sadi, Jae Min Yeom, Will Cantrell, Raymond A. Shaw Aug 2026

Droplet Clustering Signatures Of Entrainment In Clouds, Suryadev Pratap Singh, Michael Larsen, Jesse Anderson, Hamed F. Sadi, Jae Min Yeom, Will Cantrell, Raymond A. Shaw

Michigan Tech Research Data

The spatial distribution of cloud droplets is relevant for various microphysical processes, such as condensational growth, collision-coalescence, riming and aggregation, and radiative transfer. Cloud droplets and other hydrometeors exhibit clustering at dissipation scales and above due to turbulence-induced preferential concentration. Here, we investigate the role of entrainment in modulating the scale-dependent clustering of cloud droplets and explore how this mechanism differs from inertial clustering. We have performed experiments in the Pi Convection-Cloud Chamber, and imaged 2-D droplet fields in the cloud-top region where dry-air entrained through an open cylindrical flange leads to an entrainment-mixing process. Captured images are processed to …

Neuroscience Articles

BACKGROUND: New antiamyloid therapies (AAT) for treating patients with early Alzheimer disease (AD) have become available in the past 3 years. Although AAT can be beneficial in slowing progression of AD, they also come with potentially serious side effects, particularly for patients requiring anticoagulation or thrombolysis for cardiovascular conditions. Given that most patients with AD are older and likely to have cardiovascular risk factors, there is urgent need for additional guidance for clinicians about potential risks and benefits associated with AAT for patients with cardiovascular comorbidities, best practices for management of these patients, and special considerations with respect to emergency …

Should H2-Blockers Be Used For The Treatment Of Laryngopharyngeal Reflux?, Sophia Linguiti, W. Jack Palmer, Janvi J. Shukla, Kathleen Tibbetts, Colin Huntley, Joseph Spiegel

Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Faculty Papers

Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is a highly prevalent condition in otolaryngology practice, characterized by reflux of gastric contents into the pharynx and larynx. Although proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) remain first-line therapy, many patients report persistent symptoms. In refractory cases, histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs) are often employed as adjunctive or standalone therapy due to their rapid onset and accessibility. However, their utility as daily therapy is limited by tachyphylaxis, with significant loss of acid suppression within days of continuous use. Despite longstanding evidence from gastroenterology literature discouraging daily H2RA therapy, these agents remain frequently prescribed in otolaryngology practice. Contemporary ear, nose, and …

Tidal Evolution Of Packed Moon Systems Around An Earth-Mass Planet, Alan Briseño, Billy Quarles, Marialis Rosario-Franco Aug 2026

Tidal Evolution Of Packed Moon Systems Around An Earth-Mass Planet, Alan Briseño, Billy Quarles, Marialis Rosario-Franco

Student Publications

While missions have long targeted terrestrial exoplanets within the habitable zone of their host stars, the number of exomoon candidates is expected to grow as next generation space-based observatories achieve the photometric sensitivity required to detect their transit signals. Constraining the stability limits of tightly packed moon systems is therefore essential for transit searches and predicting the number of moons around terrestrial planets. In our solar system, only three moons orbit the terrestrial planets, motivating the question of whether Earth-mass exoplanet systems can sustain long-lived, tightly packed satellites. We investigate the stability limits of an Earth-mass planet orbiting a Sun-mass …

Percolation-Induced Thermo-Rheological Transitions In Biobased Graphene Nanoplatelet Nanofluids, Abiodun A. Saka, Tobechukwu K. Abor, Anthony C. Okafor, Monday U. Okoronkwo Aug 2026

Percolation-Induced Thermo-Rheological Transitions In Biobased Graphene Nanoplatelet Nanofluids, Abiodun A. Saka, Tobechukwu K. Abor, Anthony C. Okafor, Monday U. Okoronkwo

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Biobased lubricants with thermally responsive rheology are increasingly needed for high-efficiency mechanical systems. Graphene nanoplatelet (GnP) nanofluids in vegetable oils are promising candidates, yet their percolation-driven thermo-rheological transitions remain insufficiently understood. In particular, the coupled concentration–temperature landscape controlling network-mediated flow transitions has not previously been established. Here, surfactant-free GnP nanofluids were prepared in high-oleic soybean oil (HOSO) at concentrations of 0.025–2.15% v/v (ϕ), and their rheological response was mapped between 25°C and 80 °C under steady-shear and oscillatory conditions. Below the percolation threshold (ɸ ≤ 0.1% v/v), the nanofluids exhibit near-Newtonian behavior, moderate reversible viscosity enhancement, and classical Arrhenius-type temperature …

A Natural Fit: Reconceptualizing The Work Of Oregon's Silent Era Sister Exhibitors, Karen Caverly-Molineaux Aug 2026

A Natural Fit: Reconceptualizing The Work Of Oregon's Silent Era Sister Exhibitors, Karen Caverly-Molineaux

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Inspired by the quadrupling of women theater owners in Census reports between 1910 and 1920, this dissertation focuses on women theater owners in the state of Oregon and brings their experiences of theater ownership to the forefront for historical inquiry. The 1920 Census reported nineteen women theater owners for Oregon, yet the research here only found eighteen. Of the eighteen found, only two women’s Census records indicate them as theater owners – meaning this dissertation’s study found more than the Census accounted for. However at the same time, many have yet to be located. Scholarship claims women’s work as happening …

Evaluating The Efficacy Of State-Level Legislation In Mitigating Cyberattack Impacts And Victim Reduction, John Mark Norris Aug 2026

Evaluating The Efficacy Of State-Level Legislation In Mitigating Cyberattack Impacts And Victim Reduction, John Mark Norris

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This quantitative longitudinal study examined the effectiveness of state cybersecurity legislation by analyzing the relationship between five state-level legislative features: mandatory frameworks, enforcement actions, information sharing, mandatory cybersecurity training, and government incentives, and two cybersecurity outcomes: the number of cyberattack victims and resulting economic losses. Using data from all 50 U.S. states from 2017 through 2024, the study evaluated whether these legislative features were associated with measurable reductions in cyberattack impacts. The findings indicate that none of the five legislative features significantly reduced the ratio of cyberattack victims to establishments. For economic losses, enforcement actions were modestly and negatively associated …
