Autonomous In-Loop Sealing Of Microdefects In Cryogenic Systems Of Particle Accelerators, Fusion Reactors And Space Technology Using Circulating Nanocapsulated Agents, Volodymyr Kotegov Aug 2026

Autonomous In-Loop Sealing Of Microdefects In Cryogenic Systems Of Particle Accelerators, Fusion Reactors And Space Technology Using Circulating Nanocapsulated Agents, Volodymyr Kotegov

Defensive Publications Series

Operation of large-scale cryogenic installations—particle accelerators, fusion reactors, space propulsion stages and quantum systems—demands continuous maintenance of leak-tightness in coolant and liquefied-gas circulation loops. Conventional methods for locating and repairing microleaks through intergranular pores of structural materials and microcracks in welded joints require complete shutdown of equipment, prolonged thermal recovery of isolated sectors and external mechanical intervention.

This publication presents a method of autonomous in-loop sealing in which the working cryogenic fluid itself serves as the carrier medium for functional nanocapsules. The method relies on thermodynamic, barometric, mechanical and electro-inductive triggers. When the nanostructured suspension passes through a microdefect into …

Automated Analysis Of Advertising Coverage Gaps And Taxonomic Expansion Opportunities, N/A Aug 2026

Automated Analysis Of Advertising Coverage Gaps And Taxonomic Expansion Opportunities, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

An inefficiency in digital advertising may arise when campaigns do not cover a range of products on an advertiser's digital properties (e.g., a website or mobile application), a discrepancy that can be challenging to identify manually. Systems and methods are described that may act as an orchestration engine to programmatically address such discrepancies. A system can programmatically harvest inventory from an advertiser's digital property, retrieve active campaign data from an advertising account, and map both data sets to a common taxonomy to identify potential coverage gaps. The system may also enrich these findings with external market data and suggest semantically …

Dynamic Adaptation Of In-Memory Data Structures For Session-Specific Workloads, Abirami Sukumaran Aug 2026

Dynamic Adaptation Of In-Memory Data Structures For Session-Specific Workloads, Abirami Sukumaran

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods are described for a polymorphic in-memory data store that can dynamically adapt its physical structure on a per-session basis. Some applications may experience performance bottlenecks from rigid, static in-memory data structures that may not be well-suited for certain dynamic workloads. The described technology can analyze real-time indicators, such as incoming data patterns and executed query types, to help determine a suitable memory layout. An adaptive engine can then transition the physical representation of the data between different formats, such as key-value, columnar, document, or vector-indexed structures. This approach may allow the in-memory data representation to align with …

Speculative Resource Pre-Warming Based On Partial Agent Output, Sarita A. Joshi, Lavi Nigam Aug 2026

Speculative Resource Pre-Warming Based On Partial Agent Output, Sarita A. Joshi, Lavi Nigam

Defensive Publications Series

In multi-agent systems, such as those organized as directed acyclic graphs, cold-start initialization latency at transitions between agent nodes can create performance bottlenecks. This delay can occur when a system waits for an upstream agent to complete its task before preparing resources for the subsequent downstream agent. The described systems and techniques can address this by implementing speculative resource pre-warming. A system can monitor the partial output of an active upstream agent to extract a routing fingerprint and predict the likely next agent in the workflow. Based on this prediction, computational resources for the downstream agent, such as models and …

Mitigating High Central Processing Unit (Cpu)-Induced Link Aggregation Control Protocol (Lacp) Flapping In Large-Scale Bundles, Anthoni Rajanikanth Jasti Aug 2026

Mitigating High Central Processing Unit (Cpu)-Induced Link Aggregation Control Protocol (Lacp) Flapping In Large-Scale Bundles, Anthoni Rajanikanth Jasti

Defensive Publications Series

Large-scale data center and enterprise networks frequently employ Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) to aggregate multiple physical interfaces for redundancy and bandwidth. However, high central processing unit (CPU) utilization can disrupt LACP operations, causing interface flapping and network instability, especially when fast LACP timers and many virtual local area networks (VLANs) are configured. A mitigation technique is proposed herein that uses the LACP Out-of-Sync bit to coordinate interface unbundling during high-CPU events, thereby reducing repeated timer-driven flapping and supporting orderly recovery.

Architectural And Mathematical Foundations Of Transform Coding In Image Compression: From Multiresolution Wavelet Pyramids To Hardware-Accelerated Discrete Wavelet Transform Silicon Engines, Gopi K. Tummala

Defensive Publications Series

As distributed compute platforms and high-resolution imaging pipelines scale, uncompressed raw visual data presents a severe transmission bandwidth and memory storage wall. A 24-bit 1024 × 1024 uncompressed frame consumes 3.0 MB of storage, requiring over 7 minutes to transmit across legacy 64 Kbit/s ISDN channels, whereas a 10 : 1 compression reduces this footprint to 300 KB and sub-6-second latencies. This research paper presents a comprehensive mathematical, algorithmic, and microarchitectural evaluation of foundational transform coding paradigms—spanning Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Karhunen-Lo`eve Transform (KLT), Fractal Iterated Function Systems (IFS), Spline Regularization, and Multiresolution Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT). We formulate the …

Verified-Email Household Principals With Hash-Only Calendar-Feed Capabilities And Atomic Rotation-Based Revocation, Joel Kandy Aug 2026

Verified-Email Household Principals With Hash-Only Calendar-Feed Capabilities And Atomic Rotation-Based Revocation, Joel Kandy

Defensive Publications Series

A multi-tenant activity-registration platform resolves a household (“family”) account's data by

verified email address alone — with no claim or migration step — and derives from that account a

single aggregated calendar-feed capability URL whose bearer token is stored server-side only as a

domain-prefixed cryptographic hash. Revocation of the feed URL is never a separate operation: it

occurs atomically as a side effect of either (a) re-copying the feed link, which always re-mints the

token, or (b) any change to the account's verified email identity, which nulls the stored hash. The

feed endpoint is served with Cache-Control: private so that …

Multi-Probe Dehp Validation Protocols For Jwst, Euclid, And Roman Space Telescope Telemetry Data, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

Modern cosmological observations are encountering acute foundational tensions within the standard ΛCDM framework. These include the 5σ Hubble Tension, anomalously mature galaxy populations at high redshifts (z > 10) revealed by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), and large-scale cosmic anisotropy dipoles detected in radio and infrared surveys. This white paper presents a formal empirical framework to evaluate the Dimensionally Extended Holographic Projection (DEHP) model against these anomalies. By treating space-time as an emergent bulk generated by a two-dimensional boundary information layer, DEHP treats cosmic expansion as a manifestation of viscoelastic substrate mechanics rather than an intrinsic vacuum metric expansion. We …

Adaptive Media Interruption Placement Using Causal Analysis Of Audience Engagement, Joanna Piega, David Lepkowski, Szymon Socha

Defensive Publications Series

A challenge in the field of digital media distribution relates to static interruption placements, such as advertisements, which may be determined without considering evolving audience engagement data. This approach can result in interruptions during periods of low viewer interest, potentially increasing session abandonment. Systems and methods are described that can address this by utilizing a quasi-experimental statistical framework to analyze audience engagement data. The framework may compare viewer abandonment rates between sessions where an interruption was presented and sessions where an interruption was not presented for the same temporal location. This comparison can yield a causal abandonment penalty metric for …

System For Automated Cross-Feed Auditing Of E-Commerce Product Data, N/A Aug 2026

System For Automated Cross-Feed Auditing Of E-Commerce Product Data, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

In multi-channel e-commerce, merchants may utilize separate product data feeds, for instance, for online and local inventory, which can lead to data conflicts and inconsistencies that may not be detected by single-feed validation checks. A system for automated, cross-feed auditing can address these potential issues. The system can integrate and cross-reference data from multiple sources, including online, local, and historical data repositories, to create a more comprehensive view of product data. It may use analytical modules to identify price or availability discrepancies between feeds, diagnose reasons for suppressed promotional badging based on time-series rules, and suggest missing product attributes based …

Faculty Scholarship

Nearly 700 million people worldwide live in extreme poverty, and almost half of the world’s population lives below the poverty line. Cash transfer programs are increasingly used to address poverty’s effects on family well-being, yet less is known about how families experience programs that combine cash transfers with peer-driven mutual aid. Children International’s (CI) Community Independence Initiative (CII) provides conditional cash transfers and promotes family-led goal setting, mutual support, and shared learning. This qualitative study explored how families in Colombia, Mexico, and the Philippines experienced CII and made meaning of its material and relational components. We conducted focus groups with …

Hospital Charity Care And Medical Debt Among Low-Wage Workers In The United States, Mathieu Despard, Stephen Roll, Eva Stahl, Camila Salvagno, Ruth Lande

Center for Social Development Research

With one in five low-wage workers reporting medical or dental debt they cannot afford to pay, financial assistance programs (also known as charity care) are an important resource. Federal law requires nonprofit hospitals to offer such programs, but evidence suggests that workers experience administrative burdens in learning about and applying for the assistance. Drawing upon data from the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility (WEIM) survey, this brief presents findings on associations between the characteristics of low-wage workers and their experiences with financial assistance programs. The brief also shares examples of how hospital policies and patients’ needs may not align, presenting …

Do Nonprofit Ratings Help Donors Make Better Decisions?, Ashraf Haque

Center for Policy Research

Nonprofit organizations depend on donations to fulfill their missions, but donors choosing among 1.8 million U.S. public charities often lack the time or capacity to evaluate which organizations are actually performing well. This brief summarizes findings from a study that used a five-year panel dataset of over one million nonprofit-year records from GuideStar (2014–2018) to examine how transparency seal ratings affect donation behavior. The author finds that having any GuideStar seal increases donations by about 7% compared to having no seal, and that platinum-rated nonprofits receive 34% more in donations than unrated organizations, regardless of actual organizational quality. Donors do …

Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications

The genus Myotis is one of the largest clades of bats, and it exhibits some of the most extreme variation in lifespans among mammals, alongside unique adaptations to viral tolerance and immune defence1–3. Here, to study the evolution of these phenotypes, we generated cell lines and near-complete genome assemblies for eight closely related Myotis species. Using genome-wide screens of positive selection, analyses of structural variation and functional experiments in primary cells, we identify patterns of adaptation contributing to longevity, cancer resistance and viral interactions. We demonstrate distinct modes of adaptation to DNA and RNA viruses compared with all …
