Which Creed? Whose Interpretation? The Filioque As A Test Case For Theological Method, John C. Peckham
Which Creed? Whose Interpretation? The Filioque As A Test Case For Theological Method, John C. Peckham
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
This article undertakes a brief assessment of competing methodological commitments relative to the dispute over the filioque clause in the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed. In doing so, this article highlights how the filioque dispute exposes crucial methodological questions about the authority of tradition in relation to the authority of Scripture and the viability of employing creeds as methodologically normative in the doing of theology, especially relative to questions like: Which tradition? Which creed(s)? Which version of the selected creed(s)? Whose interpretation? Which doctrinal commitments? Using the filioque dispute as a test case, this article concludes that the many difficulties faced relative to …
The Divinity Of Christ In The Adventist Sabbath School Lesson Quarterly From 1888 To 1931, Sungjin Kim
The Divinity Of Christ In The Adventist Sabbath School Lesson Quarterly From 1888 To 1931, Sungjin Kim
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
Christology in the Christian church in AD 451. Nonetheless, the debate concerning the divinity of Christ has been repeated within many denominations, resulting in each denomination developing its own Christology. This article explores the development of the Seventh-day Adventist understanding of the divinity of Christ by diachronically examining the Sabbath School Lesson Quarterly (SSLQ). The SSLQ is a valuable resource because it is essentially written as a textbook for church members. The shifting descriptions of Christ’s divinity throughout the history of the periodical demonstrate the evolution of the denomination’s understanding of this subject. Although there are many ways to speak …
Elisha The Steward: A Literary Examination Of Elisha’S Prophetic Ministry, Lee Hagewood
Elisha The Steward: A Literary Examination Of Elisha’S Prophetic Ministry, Lee Hagewood
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
This article examines the characterization of Elisha in Kings by considering the narrative’s presentation of how he attends to the people and tasks entrusted to him; an aspect of his characterization that I refer to as “stewardship.” This literary examination proceeds by examining Elisha’s call, his ministry within the Israelite community, and his ministry as it relates to the geopolitical conditions depicted in the narrative. Evaluating Elisha’s stewardship within the Israelite community involves an investigation of his interactions with both the Shunammite woman and the “sons of the prophets.” A similar evaluation of his geopolitical ministry investigates his response to …
Reconsidering Nebuchadnezzar’S Seven-Year Madness: The Lycanthropy Theory And Its Historical Potential In Daniel 4, Fabián Ubilla
Reconsidering Nebuchadnezzar’S Seven-Year Madness: The Lycanthropy Theory And Its Historical Potential In Daniel 4, Fabián Ubilla
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
The account in Daniel 4, in which it is said that King Nebuchadnezzar lost his mind and lived as a beast for seven years, lacks corroboration in cuneiform documents. There are consequently several theories that attempt to explain the meaning of this story. One of them is the theory of lycanthropy, which suggests that the mental ailment of the king was due to a strange disease. This theory has largely been abandoned because other theories are better supported by ancient documents. However, the present study proposes a reconsideration of the lycanthropy theory for two main reasons. The first is that, …

The Importance Of A Gay Or Lesbian Community When Job Seeking – Psychological And Demographic Factors, Mark X. James, Zhimin Hu
The Importance Of A Gay Or Lesbian Community When Job Seeking – Psychological And Demographic Factors, Mark X. James, Zhimin Hu
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
In this study, sexual orientation disclosure, impression management, neuroticism, education, and age are statistically significant predictors of the importance of a gay and lesbian community when seeking a job in a new city. Internal locus of control was not a statistically significant predictor of the importance of a gay and lesbian community when seeking a job in a new city. This research potentially offers insights into other minority or stigmatized groups, suggesting that when those individuals are seeking jobs in a new city, a supportive community may be an important decision factor. From a human resource perspective, diversity and a …
From Strategic Ambiguity To Operational Alignment: Neuro-Symbolic Ai As A Communication Infrastructure For Translating Business Value, Cedric Roland Berger, Joachim Dehais
From Strategic Ambiguity To Operational Alignment: Neuro-Symbolic Ai As A Communication Infrastructure For Translating Business Value, Cedric Roland Berger, Joachim Dehais
Global Advances in Business Communication
Large-scale transformation programs routinely fail, and the explanations typically point to governance, leadership, or technology. This article argues that a deeper cause is often overlooked: the failure to preserve shared meaning as strategy travels through the organization. Concepts like "value", "innovation", "transformation" or "business impact" anchor executive discourse but remain under-specified where execution happens. Drawing on the distinction between meaning as formal reference and meaning as contextual use (Wittgenstein, 1953), and building on sense-making and communication-as-constitutive-of-organization research, we frame strategic misalignment as a breakdown in how meaning is translated across organizational levels. We call the cumulative effect a semantic drift …

The Examina: A Peer-Led Reflection Model For Purpose And Culture Change In Schools, Belle Liang, Timothy Klein, Elisa Liang, Terese Lund, Kendall Bronk
Journal of Practitioner Research
The Examina is a peer-led reflection model that helps educators strengthen purpose and belonging in their daily work. It offers brief, structured opportunities for colleagues to pause and reconnect with why their work matters. More than 400 educators across three public school districts participated in the four-session peer reflection program, with 147 completing baseline surveys that informed this practitioner inquiry. Peer facilitators adapted four Examina practices (i.e., Future Crafting, Intention Setting, Insight Gathering, and Story Crafting) to fit their school cultures. Nearly eight in ten participants reported deeper purpose reflection and three in four reported greater belonging in their professional …
Related Arts Teachers In A Professional Learning Community: On The Phenomenon Of Implementation, Noah Friedman
Related Arts Teachers In A Professional Learning Community: On The Phenomenon Of Implementation, Noah Friedman
Journal of Practitioner Research
In recent decades, the popularity of teacher collaboration and data-driven instructional practices has seen the increased use of the professional learning community (PLC) model as a method for school improvement. Within the PLC framework are singletons, educators who are the only ones who teach their subject in their buildings (Hansen, 2015). In elementary school settings, related arts teams (e.g. music, art, physical education, and so on) are often included in a PLC as an afterthought. To accommodate the distinctive needs of this team, I created an intervention tool and method to provide support to related arts teams as they implement …
The Role Of Emotions In Understanding Inquiry As Stance, Yun-Chen Yen, Rachel Wolkenhauer
The Role Of Emotions In Understanding Inquiry As Stance, Yun-Chen Yen, Rachel Wolkenhauer
Journal of Practitioner Research
This case study of a Taiwanese teacher candidate’s inquiry experience during her internship uses emotions as a lens for analyzing how she developed and refined her inquiry stance as a critical habit of mind. Using emotions as points of reflection and action, the teacher candidate came to see herself as a responsible and critical generator of knowledge, understood practice as a synthesis of reflection and action, and reframed the purpose of inquiry as elevating student voices and cultivating teacher curiosity. An inquiry community played a critical role in sustaining her engagement and commitment. This study suggests that teacher emotions can …
Preparing Relational Leaders In Teacher Education: Graduate Student Perspectives On Leadership Practices, Mary Louie Stahl Phd
Preparing Relational Leaders In Teacher Education: Graduate Student Perspectives On Leadership Practices, Mary Louie Stahl Phd
Journal of Practitioner Research
This practitioner research study examines how graduate education students prioritize relational, professional, and reflective leadership practices within a leadership framework used in a graduate teacher education course. While scholarship on care-centered leadership emphasizes the importance of relational trust, authenticity, and kindness in educational leadership, little research has explored how aspiring educators interpret and prioritize these leadership practices during their teacher preparation programs. Institutional Review Board approval was obtained for this study. Ten graduate students enrolled in a Human Learning, Development, and Motivation course completed an optional structured reflective survey based on engagement with a leadership framework. Data were analyzed using …
Effects Of Eight-Week High Interval Training On The Distance Covered During Small-Sided Games Versus League Match In Youth Soccer Players, Dorota Lewandowska, Zbigniew Jastrzebski
Effects Of Eight-Week High Interval Training On The Distance Covered During Small-Sided Games Versus League Match In Youth Soccer Players, Dorota Lewandowska, Zbigniew Jastrzebski
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background: The aim of the study was to demonstrate the effectiveness of an 8-week high-intensity interval training (HIIT) program on the distance covered by young soccer players during small-sided games (SSG) and a league match. Materials and Methods: The study involved 39 players aged 17–18 years old, divided into two groups, each performing SSG on a pitch with a surface of 90 m² per player (G-90, n = 19) and 180 m² per player (G-180, n = 20). Players (5 × 5) in both groups completed four games, once a week on Tuesdays. Each game lasted 5 minutes with a …

A Combination Of Hyoscyamine And Theophylline For Treatment Of Sick Sinus Syndrome In A Dog, Uraiwan Saengkieo, Arisara Kiatsilapanan, Suwanakiet Sawangkoon
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
A-12-year-old female West Highland White Terrier presented with a history of cardiac syncope. Physical examination revealed bradycardia. Sick sinus syndrome (SSS) was diagnosed with electrocardiography and 24-hour Holter monitoring. However, the owner made the decision to receive the pharmacological therapy. Therefore, a combination of hyoscyamine sulfate and theophylline was prescribed. Following two adjustments of drug dosage and frequency within a year, the total number of heartbeats increased from 58,091 to 73,686 beats, and the mean heart rate increased from 44 to 59 bpm. After the treatment, the dog became stable and no syncopal episodes were detected, despite the presence of …

Could 'Real Existing Ai' Be Sentient?, Tim Crane
Could 'Real Existing Ai' Be Sentient?, Tim Crane
Animal Sentience
Jonathan Birch is rightly sceptical about the idea that today’s AI machines (e.g. LLMs) are candidates for sentience. Nonetheless, he gives three reasons for taking the future possibility of AI sentience seriously. I dispute them all. Birch fails to distinguish the very idea of an artificial mind from computational AI (what I call ‘Real Existing AI’); he does not adequately distinguish a simulation from a replica or copy; and he fails to acknowledge that the appeal to computational functionalism in this context is straightforwardly question-begging.
Artificial Sentience: From Computational Functionalism To Behaviourism?, Wanja Wiese
Artificial Sentience: From Computational Functionalism To Behaviourism?, Wanja Wiese
Animal Sentience
I critically examine Jonathan Birch’s account of how brain emulations might create artificial sentience candidates, arguing that his account risks collapsing into a behaviourist account, unless the specific computational processes realised by such emulations are carefully considered. Drawing on examples from computational neuroscience, I show that similar behaviours can arise from vastly different computational processes, thereby undermining the suggestion to focus on behaviourial profiles to determine whether a brain emulation of a sentience candidate is itself a sentience candidate.
Strategies To Transform Natural Resource Extension With Inaturalist And Engage The Public In Biodiversity Conservation, Corey T Callaghan, Brittany M Mason
Strategies To Transform Natural Resource Extension With Inaturalist And Engage The Public In Biodiversity Conservation, Corey T Callaghan, Brittany M Mason
Journal of Extension
Participatory citizen science is an increasingly popular tool that provides nonformal education and learning activities. iNaturalist, a free, open-access, participatory citizen science platform, provides a place to engage the public in natural resource programming. Here, we explore practical applications for integrating iNaturalist into Extension programming. We highlight two approaches: (a) self-guided programming, where participants independently engage in biodiversity documentation and professionals contribute identifications, and (b) facilitated programming, which involves structured events and projects led by Extension professionals. We discuss the unique advantages of using iNaturalist in these contexts and offer recommendations for quantitatively measuring and reporting its impact in Extension …

Financial Recovery Capital: Exploring The Role Of Extension Education In Promoting Substance Use Recovery, Alex Elswick, Nichole L Huff, Omolola A. Adedokun, Leslie Workman
Journal of Extension
Substance use is a widespread and complex public health challenge. Financial stress (e.g., unemployment, inadequate housing, transportation access, poor financial literacy) is pervasive among people with substance use disorder (SUD). However, few educational interventions exist to address financial stress for this group. Through the theoretical lens of recovery capital (an asset-based approach that describes the totality of resources that support SUD recovery), we summarize the association between financial stress and substance use, offering implications for Extension educators by highlighting PROFIT, an exemplary program that leverages Extension education as a tool to promote financial recovery capital among people with SUD.

The development of natural cosmetic raw materials as anti-aging agents is one area of research that receives significant attention. Secondary metabolites and extracts from plants have been widely studied and found to possess anti-aging activity. Previous research yielded results showing very strong antioxidant activity of the extract and fractions of namnam leaves. This study aims to analyze the metabolite from the strongest fraction from antioxidant activity and analyze the interaction of flavonoid metabolites with elastase enzymes in silico. Metabolite analysis was performed using LC-HRMS. The molecular docking study was conducted on protein code 5A09 using Autodock Tools 1.4.7. The skin …

Exploring The Current Landscape Of After-School Programs In 4-H, Theresa M Ferrari, Travis West
Journal of Extension
After-school programs have attracted considerable attention as a setting for positive youth development programming, and 4-H has been part of the growth of the after-school field. We undertook the current study to describe the extent of after-school programming in 4-H and to learn about the breadth of program offerings and their frequency, duration, and location. The 139 respondents to our 15-question Qualtrics survey were from all regions of the United States and conducted programs in diverse communities. The information gained from this survey provides a snapshot of how 4-H professionals are involved with after-school programs in their communities.
