Effectiveness Of The Guided Discovery Method In Teaching The Surface Area Of A Cylinder, Paul Ahortu May 2026

Effectiveness Of The Guided Discovery Method In Teaching The Surface Area Of A Cylinder, Paul Ahortu

2026 Symposium

This study investigates the impact of the guided discovery instructional method on students’ understanding of the surface area of a cylinder. A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design was conducted with 100 senior high school students in Cape Coast, Ghana, divided into experimental and comparison groups..

Results showed a substantial improvement in performance for students exposed to guided discovery, with mean scores increasing from 1.25 (pre-test) to 9.43 (post-test) and a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.70). Statistical analysis also revealed significant gender differences in achievement.

These findings indicate strong improvement following the guided discovery intervention and suggest its potential to enhance …

Data-Driven Framework For Assessing Wind Impacts On Approach Stability In Flight Training, Taeyun Yoo, João S. D. Garcia May 2026

Data-Driven Framework For Assessing Wind Impacts On Approach Stability In Flight Training, Taeyun Yoo, João S. D. Garcia

BCAAS Annual Safety Research Symposium

Crosswind and gust conditions during approach and landing constitute significant challenges in flight training, with direct implications for performance and safety. Most flight schools establish crosswind training limits based on aircraft certification data and instructor judgment, resulting in go/no-go decisions relying on subjective risk assessment. This study empirically examines how varying crosswind and gust conditions affect operational decisions and landing performance. The research investigates the relationship between crosswind components and student pilot performance during the flight's final approach and landing phase, utilizing Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) trajectory data integrated with surface weather observations.

This analysis focuses on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University …

Research Showcase

Background: Variants in the TPMT and NUDT15 genes that affect thiopurine metabolism can guide personalized dosing to minimize toxicity. Decreased or no appreciable NUDT15 activity demonstrate impaired breakdown of active thiopurine metabolites which can lead to severe adverse events including potentially life-threatening myelosuppression. Currently, the NUDT15*6 allele is classified as having uncertain function by the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium due to insufficient data leading to indeterminate phenotype assignments.

Objectives/Goal: To describe the activity of the NUDT 15*6 allele.

Methods/Design: We present a pediatric patient with a NUDT15*1/*6 genotype who experienced significant thiopurine-induced myelosuppression. This patient was enrolled in the Children’s …

Intravenous Sotalol In Pediatric Intensive Care Patients With And Without Congenital Heart Disease: Hemodynamic Effects, Juan S. Farias, Emily R. Backes, Saul Flores, Rohit S. Loomba May 2026

Intravenous Sotalol In Pediatric Intensive Care Patients With And Without Congenital Heart Disease: Hemodynamic Effects, Juan S. Farias, Emily R. Backes, Saul Flores, Rohit S. Loomba

Research Showcase

Background: Sotalol is an antiarrhythmic with both class II and III properties, available intravenously since 2015. While its use in adults is well-documented, there is limited pediatric data. It has been used in pediatric patients for various supraventricular and ventricular tachycardias. Although early reports suggest intravenous sotalol is safe and effective in children, available data remain limited.

Objectives/Goal: The primary purpose of this study is to characterize changes in hemodynamic parameters with the administration of intravenous sotalol.  Additional aims were also to determine how frequently arrhythmias terminated after the initial dose.

Methods/Design: This single-center retrospective study included pediatric patients under …

Snowbound Strength: Stories, Tradition, Access, And Healing In Alaska, Annette Rearden, Katie Butler, Alicia Muller, Skyler Edwin

Talking Heads Seminar Series

Faculty staff and nursing students from Alaska Pacific University present a culturally safe perspective on nursing education and healthcare delivery across Alaska. APU students come from diverse backgrounds, including Alaska Native/American Indian, urban, rural, and international communities, bringing lived experiences that shape both learning and practice. This presentation examines healthcare access across Alaska, including the role of rural hospitals and clinics, community health aids and tertiary care centers typically located in urban hubs such as Anchorage. Presenters will describe how critical access hospitals and remote clinics operate across vast geographic distances, including the coordination of care with urban facilities and …
