Application Of Turn- Key Construction To Industrialized Urban Housing In Missouri, Kenneth P. Buchert, Walker W. Milner, Harry Rubey Apr 1970

Application Of Turn- Key Construction To Industrialized Urban Housing In Missouri, Kenneth P. Buchert, Walker W. Milner, Harry Rubey

Space Congress® Proceedings

Housing can be the answer to prayers for the declining technically-oriented aerospace industry.

According to Look magazine the Soviet Union is outproducing the U.S. two to one in new housing units for its people and nearly every country in Western Europe now outproduces us. It would be most unfortunate if we were first on the moon, first in defense, but last in housing. Industrialization and new financing methods for housing offer great opportunities to provide success for most groups which are often at odds. A 50 billion dollar a year business will produce profits for stockholders, hundreds of thousands of …

Selection & Preliminary Design Of Light-Weight, Low Cost X-Band Aircraft Antennas For Defense Satellite Communications, K. G. Schroeder Apr 1970

Selection & Preliminary Design Of Light-Weight, Low Cost X-Band Aircraft Antennas For Defense Satellite Communications, K. G. Schroeder

Space Congress® Proceedings

As satellite communications requirements increase and more functions are combined in the same frequency band in accordance with the ICNI concept, special requirements are being imposed on the aircraft antenna system.

Depending on data rates to be transmitted via a satellite link, various bandwidths are required for the earth terminals. For high data rates, large relative bandwidths are necessary; and available frequency allocations generally indicate operation at X-band, with Ku-band as a possible additional choice.

Mobile users require full hemispherical coverage of the antenna system. Aircraft users have the additional constraint that the antenna aperture has to be flush with …

The methods considered are Euler, modified Euler, classical Runge-Kutta, Milne's fourth-order predictor-corrector, Hamming's fourth-order predictor-corrector, a second-order predictorcorrector, Adams-Moulton, state variable, 2 transform, and 2 form. …

Florida Transportation --Where To From Here?, James Hunter Apr 1970

Florida Transportation --Where To From Here?, James Hunter

Space Congress® Proceedings

Florida now has the only "lunar" highway in this galaxy. Man can travel non-stop from Cape Kennedy to the moon — a distance of 238,857 miles in 3| days. It has been proven that willpower and adequate financing can accomplish previously unbelievable tasks. Going to the moon has been the feat of the century.

It seems man does well as long as he is airborne but when he returns to earth trouble starts. There are so many of us now -- and increasing every year --to compound the problem we each have our own private automobiles — at least one. …

A New Multiple Access Technique For Use With Satellite Networks, Elmer Thomas Apr 1970

A New Multiple Access Technique For Use With Satellite Networks, Elmer Thomas

Space Congress® Proceedings

The Multiple Access Discrete Address System described is particularly applicable to future digital modulation systems. A high degree of efficiency is achieved using methods which provide the advantages of time division without the critical dependence on precise timing characteristic of more conventional techniques. A performance comparison with current fm/fdm is provided.

In communicating through a satellite repeater, a modulation technique must be selected to serve two separate functions. The first is the address function which must permit the receiver to separate the desired signal from other transmis-- sions simultaneously using a given repeater. The second function is to transfer a …

A Satellite Analysis Of Twin Tropical Cyclones In The Western Pacific, James L. Cox, Gilbert Jager Apr 1970

A Satellite Analysis Of Twin Tropical Cyclones In The Western Pacific, James L. Cox, Gilbert Jager

Space Congress® Proceedings

Satellite cloud photographs are very important for a clearer understanding of meteorological features of almost every scale and their interrelationships. In this paper, satellite derived information, particularly cirrus-level wind estimates made from cloud photographs, are used to recount the story of twin tropical cyclones--ANNIE and GILDA-- which formed about the same time on opposite sides of the equator in the Western Pacific during November 1967. Throughout the life cycle of the twins, it is the change which takes place in the cirrus-level wind field that enables the meteorologist to discern the step by step development of the respective cyclones as …

Satellite-Observed Sunglint Patterns: Unusual Dark Patches, Clinton J. Bowley Apr 1970

Satellite-Observed Sunglint Patterns: Unusual Dark Patches, Clinton J. Bowley

Space Congress® Proceedings

Anomalous dark areas in sunglint patterns are frequently observed in the Applications Technology Satellite (ATS) photography. These dark areas appear to be caused by relatively calm surface conditions against a background of higher sea states. Evidence of cold water temperatures suggests the presence of upwelling. These sightings may thus be of importance to the fishing industry.

Impact Of Aerospace Technology On Future Ocean Systems, Donald P. Germeraad Apr 1970

Impact Of Aerospace Technology On Future Ocean Systems, Donald P. Germeraad

Space Congress® Proceedings

The ocean, like space, is a rather hostile environment but for different reasons; constraints of extreme pressure with depth, poor visibility and highly corrosive properties. Although submersibles have operated in this medium since the turn of the century, they have been operational essentially in the same limited plane as a surface vessel and use the ocean primarily as a covert cloak. Mission flexibility in using the third dimension (depth) has been constrained by stringent structural requirements. This presentation will discuss technological advancements required to make significant contributions to future ocean oriented commercial and military systems. There is not a direct …
