Law enforcement officers are exposed to occupation-related stress at a level greater than any other occupation, save war combatants, such stress can lead to suicidal ideation. There is a growing trend of suicidal ideation among law enforcement officers. This trend will threaten the stability of society if it is allowed to continue. Educational level has been shown to improve quality of life and is considered a quantitative resource. The English Language Learner (ELL) population continues to steadily grow. While most research focuses on preservice or novice teachers’ perceptions of their preparedness to instruct ELLs, there have been very limited studies focusing on veteran elementary teachers. The purpose of this qualitative multicase study was to explore veteran elementary teachers’ perceptions of their preparedness to teach ELLs literacy. This study was grounded in the conceptual framework of Bandura’s self-efficacy theory. Purposeful sampling was used to select nine veteran elementary classroom teachers to share their perceptions through in-depth, semistructured interviews. Study participants were kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers. Data were …

Conceptualization Of Gender Variant Inclusive Healthcare Service Delivery, Tamesha Rhyne
Conceptualization Of Gender Variant Inclusive Healthcare Service Delivery, Tamesha Rhyne
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Gender variant people experience a variety of health concerns for which they seek the assistance of healthcare providers. These concerns may range from chronic health conditions and psychological disorders to gender affirming concerns. Due to living in a heteronormative society, gender variant individuals are more susceptible to experiencing stigmatization, discrimination, and other forms of unfair treatment while accessing healthcare services, which contributes to poor health outcomes. This treatment may be attributed to the lack of knowledge, competency, and training of healthcare providers as it relates to trans-inclusive care. Grounded in minority stress theory and intersectionality theory, the purpose of this …

The Narratives Of Cross-Cultural Misidentification And Exoneration In Wrongly Convicted Men, Miki L. Ross-Elster
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Wrongful conviction is often due to misidentification, particularly cross-cultural misidentification. DNA errors and other influences (including weapon focus effect, mugshot error, police suggestibility) also increase the risk of wrongful conviction, and the process of exoneration is onerous. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experience of cross-cultural misidentification, wrongful conviction, exoneration, and the return to society of formerly incarcerated men. Implicit bias theory served as the theoretical framework and refers to both attitudes and stereotypes that people hold without realizing it and which unconsciously affect the way they see a particular person or event. A narrative analysis …

African immigrant men as compared to African American men born in the United States have higher mortality rates of prostate cancer due to not seeking preventive care. However, little is known about the factors that prevent African immigrant men living in the United States from seeking prostate cancer …
