Perceptions Of Contraceptive Practice Among Arab American Victims Of Intimate Partner Violence, Linda Humaidan-Zayed
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There has been limited research on Arab Americans as they are an unidentified minority population. The specific research problem addressed through this study is that there is little research pertaining to the role of intimate partner violence (IPV) in poor contraceptive practice among Arab Americans, contributing to the larger problem of unwanted pregnancies, reproductive coercion, and other aspects of reproductive health. The problem with a high prevalence rate of IPV among Arab American women is that they are more susceptible to becoming pregnant and not accessing the reproductive health services that they may need. Thus, the purpose of this qualitative …

The Experience Of Meditation And Healing In Practitioners Of The Wim Hof Method, Chad David Mckinney
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The practice of meditation for the purpose of increasing mental clarity, health, and healing has grown steadily over the past 50 years or more. While meta-analyses and literature reviews of hundreds of studies have shown that individuals who meditate improve neuro-biopsychosocial functions and recover from illness, few studies have examined these benefits within specific systems of practice. This qualitative study explored the experience of meditation and healing in adults who have trained in the Wim Hof Method (WHM). Transpersonal psychology and placebo theory served as the conceptual framework of this research. Narrative analysis was used to guide data collection and …

An Exploration Of Male Ex-Offenders' Experiences Of Postsecondary Education And Reentry, Marvin Lee Moore, Jr
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The research problem addressed in this study is postsecondary education in prisons, ex-offenders, and the issues surrounding their reintegration into society. The primary focus is on ex-offenders who had received postsecondary education in prison, their experience obtaining a credential, and their ability to cease criminalistic behavior. After time served and education acquired, lack of inclusion within society perpetuated the problems ex-offenders faced when reentry occurred. This study includes an exploration of the experiences of ex-offenders who had received postsecondary education while in prison. The theoretical frameworks for this study were Leibrich’s desistance theory and Bandura’s self-efficacy theory. The generic qualitative …
Teacher Perceptions Of Appropriate Norms For Smartphone Use During Class, Tara N. Morrin
Teacher Perceptions Of Appropriate Norms For Smartphone Use During Class, Tara N. Morrin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The increase in smartphone use among U.S. adolescents has become a significant concern. Self-regulating smartphone use is difficult for adolescents, as notifications from social media and entertainment apps provide a sense of instant gratification. Addressing problematic smartphone use has become urgent given that adolescents’ physical and mental health has declined, including increased obesity, anxiety and depression, and smartphone addiction. Learning is also impeded when students continuously shift attention between course content and their smartphones, preventing the brain from engaging in the deep thinking necessary for long-term memory storage, retention, and retrieval. However, it is more common to see smartphones present …

Abstract Nurses play a critical role as primary care providers in correctional facilities, as well as custodians of security. However, there is a significant disparity in the supply of nurses in correctional settings relative to other practice settings, which is a major gap in practice. The current problem arises from the inability to retain nurses in the correctional settings. Prisons have a harsh work environment characterized by a difficult patient population and stringent policies that govern operations. Additionally, a high level of bureaucracy impedes system reforms and transformations. The purpose of the DNP project was to find out if the …

AbstractIn a school district in the northeast United States, secondary schools are continuing to grow in the number of students enrolling compared to the previous 10 years. The problem is school administrators are challenged to implement transformational leadership practices to support overcrowded classrooms in three local secondary schools. The conceptual framework used in this study was based on the James M. Burns’ transformational leadership theory, which focuses on four components of leadership: intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation, idealized influences, and individualized consideration. In order to understand how school administrators used transformational leadership to support overcrowded classrooms through specific practices, processes, and …
Relationship Of Mindfulness To Worldview Defense When Mortality Is Salient, Blake Ausmus
Relationship Of Mindfulness To Worldview Defense When Mortality Is Salient, Blake Ausmus
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Humans value self-preservation, and therefore that which is perceived to threaten survival should cause stress. However, humans have also developed the understanding of their own mortality, meaning that they cognitively understand that death is inevitable. The conflict arising from these opposing constructs holds the potential to cause anxiety. Interestingly, this anxiety is not easily observed in most. Terror management theory posits that there are buffer systems in place that help to keep death anxiety at bay so that humans are able to continue to function in their daily lives. These buffers include becoming more stringent to one’s worldviews and less …
