Addressing Procedure Cancellation In Elective Surgeries, Vicky Marie Deuboue Jan 2022

Addressing Procedure Cancellation In Elective Surgeries, Vicky Marie Deuboue

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

When conducting elective surgeries, one of the challenges that healthcare providers experience is procedure cancellation. Across various healthcare settings, practitioners are employing relevant strategies to reduce the prevalence of procedure cancellations. The gap addressed in this project was the impact of calling patients to remind them to stay away from NSAIDs and blood thinners a few days prior to elective surgeries to avoid procedure cancellation. The administration of NSAIDs and blood thinners within that period may result in excessive bleeding in patients, which requires attention to improve elective surgery procedure outcomes. Erroneous administration of blood thinners too close to surgical …

Texas Metro Versus Nonmetro Variations In Cervical Cancer Preventative Measures, Amanda S. English Jan 2022

Texas Metro Versus Nonmetro Variations In Cervical Cancer Preventative Measures, Amanda S. English

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Cervical cancer is a public health threat that can be eliminated with the use of preventative measures. Individuals who live in Texas’s nonmetro areas are more likely than individuals who live in metro areas of Texas to be diagnosed with cervical cancer. In this study, the individual- and county-level factors in metro and nonmetro areas that facilitate or inhibit the receipt of cervical cancer preventative measures at multiple levels of influence were examined. The ecological model was used as the theoretical framework. Using secondary data from a national population health survey (n=1,303), the goal of this cross-sectional, quantitative study was …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Chip-and-Personal Identification Number (PIN) technology is seen as a game changer in many e-commerce industries and a transformational technology in the 21st century. However, security concerns have made chip-and-PIN adoption relatively slow. Information Technology (IT) managers are concerned with credit card fraud's financial loss and liability cost. Grounded in Rogers’s diffusion of innovation theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic study was to explore strategies used by IT managers to transition their e-commerce organizations to chip-and-PIN credit card authentication infrastructures. Policies That Support Emergency Department Staff In Providing Behavioral Health Care, Lizabeth Lepp Hennig

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A significant portion of individuals with a behavioral health (BH) condition return to emergency departments (ED) seeking care, resulting in reduced quality of care, and contributing to disproportionate healthcare costs. Care can be improved and return visits to the ED reduced where behavioral health care and follow-up care planning are provided as part of their treatment. However, policies expected to create declines in ED use for behavioral conditions are typically in short duration or are difficult to use given other funding and policy constraints. With little known about how policy is supporting the engagement of ED staff who are critical …
