Strategies Managers Use To Integrate Autistic Employees Into A Diverse Workforce, Eloise Victoria Chambers

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Some managers lack strategies to integrate autistic employees into a diverse workforce. A manager's poor integration strategies prevent autistic employees from successfully entering the workforce leaving positions unfilled, services unprovided, and qualified employees unemployed. Grounded in the attribution theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study was to explore strategies managers use to integrate persons with autism spectrum disorder into a diverse workforce successfully. The participants comprised five managers from Southern California who successfully integrated autism spectrum disorder employees into the workforce. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews, videos, and publicly sourced documents. Six themes emerged from the thematic analysis: …

Exploring Resiliency In Adult Blacks Who Were Formerly Children Of Incarcerated/Formerly Incarcerated Parents, Jennifer Nowell

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Families of incarcerated individuals are impacted by the incarceration of their loved ones, especially those who had parents incarcerated during their childhood. Black individuals comprise a disproportionate rate of people affected by the circumstance of having incarcerated or formerly incarcerated parents. As a result, Black children of incarcerated parents often exhibit childhood trauma. Current evidence revealed that there is little data regarding how childhood trauma impacted the individuals’ perceptions of resiliency as they transitioned from childhood into adulthood. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of adult Blacks regarding their former childhood experiences with resiliency and their …

Characteristics Of Trust Between African Americans And Health Care Providers, Carol C. Griffiths Feb 2024

Characteristics Of Trust Between African Americans And Health Care Providers, Carol C. Griffiths

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

African Americans (AA) are one of the groups disproportionally affected by health care disparities. Despite years of research and government funding, the health of AA continues to decline, and a variety of factors intermingle to produce this effect. Furthermore, trust has been identified as contributing to poor health outcomes in AA. There is a gap in the literature about the lack of trust between AA and health care providers (HCPs), and information about how AA define, perceive, and experience trust in interactions with health care providers and the health care system is lacking. The purpose of this qualitative study was …

A Descriptive Study Of Namibian Child Sex Offenders, Ndeyapo Emma Nafuka

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The sexual abuse of children is a worldwide traumatic event with potential for adverse long-term physical and psychological consequences. There has been a plethora of research in the Western societies that examined offenders of child sexual abuse. Due to a number of methodological limitations, the findings of these studies cannot be used to effectively explain African offenders of child sexual abuse. This study employed a quantitative non-experimental, descriptive research approach method to examine the demographic and criminological characteristics of adult men who sexually abused children in Namibia. The data were collected by reviewing 183 files of Namibian male offenders incarcerated …

Electrical Field Service Employees’ Intent To Stay Or Leave, Jeffrey Daniels Feb 2024

Electrical Field Service Employees’ Intent To Stay Or Leave, Jeffrey Daniels

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Electrical field service leaders are concerned with losing human capital as it requires the shifting or reallocating of economic and non-economic resources to maintain operations and financial goals. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between general job satisfaction, employee motivation, and employee turnover intentions. Participants included 51 electrical field service leaders in the electrical field service industry who completed the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Motivational Trait Questionnaire. The multiple linear regression analysis results indicated the model could significantly predict employee turnover intentions, F(2, 48) = 15.29, p < .001, R2 = .389. In the final model, general job satisfaction was the only significant contributor (t = -5.15, p = < .001, β = -0.586). A key recommendation is for electrical field service leaders to implement goals around the mastery of a particular task, quarterly competitions around goal attainment, and regularly scheduled team meetings. The implications for positive social change include the potential to improve work–life balance, shift more time invested into the local community, and update models incorporating a multicultural workforce in the services sector.

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) pandemic had a significant impact on post-secondary education in the United States with much of the focus during the height of the pandemic being on students and their instruction. Little attention has been paid to the experiences of supervisors in higher education, specifically, the lived experiences of supervisors and the factors that impacted supervisors leading hybrid and remote teams. With a phenomenological framework in the periphery, the purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences that supervisors of staff within higher education had after transitioning to either a hybrid or fully remote work model. …

Exploring The Teacher Perceptions Of The Overrepresentation Disciplinary Actions Against African American Male Elementary School Students, Amber Hill

Leadership, teachers, and parents have observed significantly disproportionate discipline of African American students at urban elementary schools located in Ohio, despite the implementation of positive behavior intervention supports (PBIS). This basic qualitative study explored teacher perceptions of the overrepresentation of disciplinary actions amongst African American male elementary students in a regional school system in Ohio. The conceptual framework for this study was derived from Ladson-Billings’ theory of culturally relevant pedagogy and Skinner’s operant conditioning, which supports the PBIS framework. The research questions focused on the teachers’ perceptions and recommendations about training, resources, and support they need to address the overrepresentation …

Education, Occupation, And Healthcare Accessibility As Predictors Of Self-Reporting Memory Rating, Ana Maria Gonzales

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The increasing number of dementia cases in the United States, particularly among women, is a significant concern. This progressively deteriorating cognitive disease may profoundly affect talking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities, interfere with their daily lives, and decrease their life expectancy. Although education, occupation, and healthcare access are individually associated with positive health outcomes, it was essential to explore whether their combination impacts self-reporting memory loss, an indicator of dementia. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of education, occupation, and access to health care as predictors of dementia among women in the United States. This study used …
