Racial minority U.S. populations are underrepresented in clinical trials. Ensuring people from diverse backgrounds join clinical trials is key to advancing health equity. Participants in clinical trials should represent the patients’ population. The purpose of this quantitative study was to assess the association of individual-level factors (age, sex, marital status, family history of Alzheimer’s disease, living arrangement), health-related factors (smoking and alcohol), and socioeconomic status (years of education, employment status, health insurance status) and the interest in clinical trial participation among African Americans (AAs). Available data for the last two decades have shown that the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasing, with users including adult diabetics around the world. There is not a strong consensus concerning the influence of socioeconomic factors on the use of CAM by adult diabetics. The purpose of this retrospective cross-sectional study was to examine the use of CAM among U.S. adults 21 years and older diagnosed with diabetes and whether income influences the use of CAM among adult diabetics after adjusting for age, gender, and location. Cross-sectional data from the 2017 National Health Interview Survey represented …

The lack of strategic initiatives to elevate quality manufacturing and customer-centric business models has precipitated the monetary collapse of many aerospace organizations. Concerns arise when the focus on revenue supersedes the goal of quality workmanship. Grounded in total quality management (TQM), the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore strategies that seven aerospace leaders used to increase and maintain profitability through TQM to gain a competitive advantage. Data were collected using semistructured face-to-face interviews and a review of organizational documents. Five themes were identified through thematic analysis: (a) applying operational excellence, (b) optimizing capacity planning and resource …

Preparing For The Next Pandemic: Helpful Strategies For Hospital Managers, Lynesha Sweeney
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
During the rapid spread of the coronavirus in 2020, some hospital managers lacked strategies to support and treat the number of patients falling ill daily. Effective strategies to support and treat patients during the next pandemic are important to hospital managers because insufficient access to quality healthcare services can be harmful to community citizens and detrimental to hospital sustainability. Grounded in the resource-based theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore strategies some hospital managers have created and implemented to be prepared for future pandemics within their facilities. The participants were six healthcare leaders working in roles …

Early Childhood Educators’ Perceptions Of Practicum And Its Relationship To Self-Efficacy In Teaching, Terri Gray Johnson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Limited research exists on the factors that contribute to community college students’ development of self-efficacy (SE) while serving as preservice teachers (PSTs) during their early childhood education (ECE) practicum. This lack of research is concerning because educators who have high SE enhance the educational well-being of all children. The purpose of this study was to understand the experiences in practicum that early childhood educators perceive contribute to the development of SE among PSTs. The conceptual framework was derived from Bandura’s theory of SE. The focus of the research questions was on understanding the development of SE during practicum experiences and …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In South Africa, diabetes is a serious problem where 1 in 9 adults has diabetes, making it the country with the highest diabetes prevalence on the African continent. Even though insulin is an absolute necessity for treating diabetes, it is unaffordable to millions. Biosimilar insulins, however, are innovative medicines that are similar but not exact copies of the originator insulin, making alternative treatment affordable to patients. The problem is that, in South Africa, it is still not known whether patients have access to biosimilar insulin in a country where diabetes is rampant. The diffusion of innovation theory was used to …
