Disruptive classroom behaviors are on the rise in U.S. classrooms. Children with early behavior difficulties are at an increased risk of school dropout, incarceration, and mental illness. A review of the literature indicates gender is a significant variable that can influence students’ behaviors, social skills, and academics. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine teachers’ perceptions of gender differences in externalizing behaviors and internalizing behaviors and the role of inhibitory control in a sample of neurotypical and neurodiverse kindergarten students. Bem’s gender schema theory was the structural framework used in this non-experimental study. The research question explored the …

The Experiences Of Seeking Help For Intimate Partner Violence In Latin Lesbian Relationships, Patricia Cepero
The Experiences Of Seeking Help For Intimate Partner Violence In Latin Lesbian Relationships, Patricia Cepero
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a social and public health problem that affects millions of people each year regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, and sexual orientation. Although heterosexual IPV has been a topic of academic research, researchers have turned their attention to same-sex IPV. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals experience rates of IPV equal to or higher than rates reported by heterosexual individuals and have challenges seeking support. A qualitative case study approach was used to fill the identified gap in the literature about how Latina lesbians experience seeking support for IPV. The minority stress model provided a …

Factors Associated With Digestive System Cancer Screening In Texas., Stella Green
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The specific research problem in this study was that despite the high prevalence of digestive system cancer, screening for digestive system cancer has not been optimized, thus compromising early diagnosis and treatment. Early detection and treatment of digestive system cancer can generate better patient outcomes and enhance quality of life. The purpose of this quantitative correlation study guided by the social ecological model was to examine whether demographic factors (age, sex, race/ethnicity, marital status), socioeconomic status (education level, employment status, income level), and health behaviors (physical activity, tobacco use, healthcare coverage) are associated with receiving digestive cancer screening in Texas. …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Nurse turnover rates in long-term care facilities, specifically in California nursing homes, are among the most pressing issues for the quality of patient care and nursing homes’ operational costs. The purpose of this integrative review was to reveal effective ways to improve job satisfaction, decrease turnover intention, and increase retention rates among nursing staff in California nursing homes. This study focused on the critical issue of turnover in healthcare administration, grounded by Herzberg’s motivation–hygiene theory, which stated that job satisfaction was the fundamental problem causing high staff turnover, and it suggested that hygiene and motivation factors may affect employee turnover. …

Relationship Between Self-Efficacy And Reading Achievement Among Students With Disabilities, Jessica Maine
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Students with disabilities (SWD) often display lower self-efficacy and have a more negative attitude toward reading compared to typically developing peers. Little research has been conducted to measure the relationship between reading self-efficacy and reading achievement of SWD. The purpose of this study was to investigate if reading self-efficacy predicts reading achievement for SWD. Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy guided the research question to evaluate the relationship between reading self-efficacy and reading achievement for SWD. In the present quantitative study, a linear regression analysis was used to assess the predictive relationship between SWDs’ reading self-efficacy, as measured by the Readers’ Self-Perception …

Available data for the last two decades have shown that the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasing, with users including adult diabetics around the world. There is not a strong consensus concerning the influence of socioeconomic factors on the use of CAM by adult diabetics. The purpose of this retrospective cross-sectional study was to examine the use of CAM among U.S. adults 21 years and older diagnosed with diabetes and whether income influences the use of CAM among adult diabetics after adjusting for age, gender, and location. Cross-sectional data from the 2017 National Health Interview Survey represented …

Factors Affecting African Americans’ Participation In Alzheimer’S Disease Clinical Trials, Morounsayo Abimbola Awosika-Olumo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Racial minority U.S. populations are underrepresented in clinical trials. Ensuring people from diverse backgrounds join clinical trials is key to advancing health equity. Participants in clinical trials should represent the patients’ population. The purpose of this quantitative study was to assess the association of individual-level factors (age, sex, marital status, family history of Alzheimer’s disease, living arrangement), health-related factors (smoking and alcohol), and socioeconomic status (years of education, employment status, health insurance status) and the interest in clinical trial participation among African Americans (AAs). The theoretical foundation that grounded this study was the health belief model. Secondary data from 214 …
