Adolescents and young adults represent many of the new sexually transmitted infections diagnosed each year in the United States, with pronounced disparities among minority racial and ethnic groups. This study examined 3,480 participants aged 15-24 from the 2017-2019 National Survey on Family Growth to explore the influence of race and socioeconomic status (SES) on the likelihood and comprehensiveness of parental sex education before the age of 18, using the Intersectionality Theory and Social Determinants of Health as frameworks. Controlling for formal sex education, binary and multinomial logistic regression models demonstrated that formal sex education significantly increased the odds of adolescents …

There is a lack of understanding within the psychological and medical communities on the extent to which endometriosis impacts the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of people with endometriosis (PWE). This doctor of nursing practice (DNP) project presents an organizational quality improvement initiative implementing a text message reminder system to decrease appointment no-show rates in the outpatient mental health clinic. The project was developed based on the high rate of appointment no-shows at the DNP project site. Appointment no-shows are costly to both clinics and patients. Clinics experience decreased revenue and efficiency, and patient outcomes can be compromised. The project evaluated whether text message reminders sent 24 hours before a scheduled appointment time decreased no-show rates by at least 10%. Depression represents a significant public health concern that often remains undiagnosed or untreated, primarily due to insufficient systematic screening in primary care settings. The lack of standardized screening tools such as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) elevates patient risks, increasing symptom severity, increasing suicide rates, and delaying interventions. Research studies show that a significant number of individuals with depression go untreated for long durations, with primary care settings recognizing only a small percentage of cases. This project was a staff education initiative designed to address critical knowledge gaps among nursing staff regarding the safe administration of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). The identified practice problem was insufficient knowledge in areas such as SSRI pharmacology, proper dosages, administration techniques, and management of interactions and side effects. Given the importance of safe SSRI administration in preventing medication errors and optimizing patient outcomes, this gap was significant in nursing practice. Low-income consumers face social and psychological barriers to economic self-sufficiency. This qualitative inquiry aimed to bridge the knowledge gap by examining how social and psychological factors that impede single mothers from achieving economic self-sufficiency. Grounded in Fishbein and Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), this study examined factors influencing single parents’ financial behaviors. The findings supported TPB, showing that financial literacy shapes intentions, perceived control increases with stability, and social norms influence financial behavior.
