Enhancing Nurse Retention In Acute Care Hospitals By Creating An Environment Supportive Of Evidence-Based Practice, Vanessa Roxana Funes

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

High nurse turnover rates in acute care hospitals negatively impact operations, increase turnover-related costs, and worsen organizational performance. Developing solutions for healthcare administrators to create environments supportive of evidence-based practice (EBP) can yield positive nurse outcomes, including reducing nurse turnover and increasing retention. This integrative review includes strategies to execute a system-wide environment supportive of EBP as an efficient strategy to reduce nurse turnover and increase retention in acute care hospitals. Using the advancing research and clinical practice through close collaboration (ARCC) model as a guiding framework and the Johns Hopkins evidence-based model as a tool to evaluate evidence, empirical …

The Impact Of Specific Foster Care Placement Factors On Attachment-Related Anxiety And Avoidance In The Adult Intimate Relationships Of Foster Care Alumni, Latasha Macklin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Children who have a history of maltreatment, like those placed in foster care, are at a significantly higher risk for developing an insecure attachment style, which may be correlated with various problems in adulthood, including adverse relationship outcomes, poor job satisfaction, low self-esteem, mood, and personality disorders. Prior research suggests a correlation between the attachment style of a foster child and specific foster care factors, including the type of placement, reason for placement, number of placements, age of the child at placement, and gender of the child. However, no research exists to examine how these factors might significantly impact the …

The practice problem this DNP project addressed was the lack of a of consensus for a brief cognitive screening (BCS) tool that can be most predictive of mild cognitive disorder (MCI) and dementia in a Veteran Affairs (VA) outpatient clinic. Addressing this gap in practice is important because the veteran population may be at increased risk of MCI and dementia due to age, a history of traumatic brain injury, and posttraumatic stress disorder. This DNP project was a systematic review of the literature. A population, exposure, outcome (PEO) framework and the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance (RE-AIM) theory guided …

Employee Engagement Within The E-Commerce Industry, Kwami Seyram Dzahini

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Employee engagement poses a significant challenge for human resources (HR) managers in the e-commerce industry. Employees experiencing engagement issues may demonstrate lower commitment and heightened workplace incivility, ultimately affecting business profitability. Grounded in the employee engagement theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between work-life balance, professional growth, and employee engagement initiatives within U.S. e-commerce companies. The study involved 72 HR managers and full-time employees from the Eastern U.S. region, who participated in an online survey. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results were statistically significant, F(2, 69) = 12.475, p < .001, R² = .266, indicating that the model accounted for 26.6% of the variance in employee engagement. Professional growth emerged as a significant predictor of employee engagement, t = 2.62, p = .011, ß = 0.36. A key recommendation for e-commerce HR managers is to monitor engagement levels through surveys, feedback sessions, and performance indicators. Analyzing trends in employee retention, absenteeism, and productivity can allow leadership to make data-driven decisions and adjust strategies as needed. The implications for positive social change include the potential for HR leaders to enhance the value and satisfaction of employees, improve retention, and foster a more productive workforce that contributes positively to the overall health of the e-commerce industry and broader economy.

Adults are being diagnosed with autism at greater rates than in the past two decades. This research study examined whether the age of autism diagnosis impacts the severity of comorbid mental health disorders in adults formally diagnosed with autism. The Empathizing-Systemizing theory, which posits that autistic individuals systemize at greater rates, was applied to understand the link between age of autism diagnosis and two common comorbid disorders, depression (measured by the PHQ-9) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD; measured by the PCL-5). Mediation analyses were used to explore these relationships on a convenience sample of 232 adults with autism. No significant …
