Breast cancer-specific mortality in the United States remains higher among women in rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged areas, yet few population-based studies have been conducted to jointly scrutinize demographic and structural determinants of this disparity. Informed by the social determinants of health framework, this secondary data analysis, using records from the SEER Research Plus database, examined the association between age at diagnosis, race and ethnicity, rural/urban residence, county-level median household income, and breast cancer-specific mortality among U.S. women aged 18 and older diagnosed with malignant invasive breast cancer between 2010 and 2020 (N = 285,865). The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted religious institutions, altering how Black pastors provided spiritual leadership, community support, and social connection. Limited research has examined how these disruptions affected the social identity and psychosocial well-being of African American Pentecostal pastors. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of 11 African American Pentecostal pastors in the western United States following COVID-19 church closures. Guided by social identity theory, semi-structured interviews examined changes in participants’ social identity. In Washington, DC, African American single mothers continued to experience food insecurity despite available assistance, as financial and bureaucratic barriers limited access to and utilization of these programs. This problem is relevant because identifying barriers to food assistance can inform recommendations to improve Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) implementation and effectiveness. In this quality improvement project, I evaluated a pilot implementation of a standardized bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) screening and monitoring tool embedded within the electronic health record (EHR) at an integrative medicine practice in the southeastern United States. Prostate cancer incidence has increased among younger men in the United States, and treatment affects both patient survival and family well-being. This quantitative retrospective study examined survival among young men diagnosed with prostate cancer who received chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or prostatectomy, while accounting for socioeconomic factors of residence and ethnicity. Disparities in head and neck cancer (HNC) diagnosis may contribute to poorer outcomes among socially and economically disadvantaged populations. This quantitative secondary data analysis examined associations between socioecological factors and advanced primary tumor category among adults with HNC residing in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Guided by the socioecological model, deidentified data (N = 350) from two Fox Chase Cancer Center research protocols were analyzed using three domain-specific multivariable logistic regression models. African American males between the ages of 18 and 29 have lower rates of successful completion in drug court programs compared to other populations, increasing their risk of incarceration and recidivism. This study examined whether participation in the Habilitation Empowerment Accountability Therapy (HEAT) program, a culturally responsive intervention, was associated with improved drug court graduation outcomes among African American male participants. Specifically, it examines community policing and the impact of law enforcement leadership, particularly servant leadership, on policing outcomes. Racial disparities in police encounters persist in Illinois, where Black adults are disproportionately subjected to investigatory stops despite ongoing oversight efforts. This study examined how citizens affected by these stops experienced and interpreted these encounters. The participants were seven Black adults from Lake County, Illinois. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis revealed racial profiling and discrimination as central, structuring features of police interactions. Participants described being stopped without clear justification, subjected to heightened suspicion, and treated as presumptively criminal. Burnout is a social phenomenon that has received much attention in the helping professions for the past 50 years, due to the nature of the work that HSPs perform. Adolescent pregnancy remains a major public health and social issue, but research has primarily focused on risk factors and not the protective factors that contribute to resilience among those who successfully break the cycle. This qualitative study explored protective factors that African American adult offspring of teenage parents identified as supporting them in avoiding teenage pregnancy and parenthood. The study was theoretically grounded in Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, which was used to explore the role of influence across environmental systems in participants’ developmental outcomes.
