Lived Experiences Regarding Quality Of Life For Women With Metastatic Breast Cancer, Anna Maytte Comayagua
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The diagnosis of cancer and various treatment modalities are linked to psychological distress that generally produces a decline in emotional and physical health and quality of life. There is a need for more research geared to help these women with metastatic breast cancer have a better quality of life. Grounded in the theory of unpleasant symptoms, a descriptive qualitative study design was employed to narrow the knowledge gap. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposeful sample of six participants. A descriptive coding process led to these emergent themes: consternation at the initial time of diagnosis, treatment modalities, side effects, perceived …

Prevalent Themes Of Messages Related To Sexual Risk Behaviors Targeting Young Black Women In Social Media, Dominique Lache' Gadson
Prevalent Themes Of Messages Related To Sexual Risk Behaviors Targeting Young Black Women In Social Media, Dominique Lache' Gadson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Black women have been shown in mainstream media and social media in ways that reinforce negative stereotypes and reduce them to objects, which leads to the sexualization and stigmatization of their bodies and sexuality. There was a gap in understanding how exposure to social media content may influence sexual behavior and identity among young Black women, and how hypersexualized narratives sparked by stories in social media reflect sexual risk-taking. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore and track popular social media sites to determine the themes of the messages most frequently viewed targeting Black women. The research question …
Attachment Styles Predicting School Engagement In Nontraditional Graduate Students, Aline Benamou-Fruchter
Attachment Styles Predicting School Engagement In Nontraditional Graduate Students, Aline Benamou-Fruchter
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Understanding how attachment styles influence nontraditional graduate students’ engagement is essential for advancing theoretical knowledge and developing targeted support systems in higher education. While research confirms that attachment styles affect academic outcomes, including perceptions of institutional support and learning environments, nontraditional graduate students remain underrepresented in engagement studies. Using Bowlby’s attachment theory as a guiding framework, this study investigated the relationship between secure, anxious, and avoidant attachment styles and behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. The Attachment Style Questionnaire, University Student Engagement Inventory, and a sociodemographic survey were employed, with data analyzed through a one-way MANOVA. Significant differences were found between …

The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to understand how African American first-generation college graduates interpreted and made meaning of their experiences related to their financial status and personal well-being. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems was the theoretical framework. Data were collected through semi-structured …

Perceptions Of Encouragement For Native American Women To Persist In Doctoral Programs, Venicia Mayo Burton
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem addressed in this study is the underrepresentation of Native American women in doctoral programs in the United States. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore how encouragement in terms of support, confidence, hope, and advice received from family and tribe, friends and social circles, and faculty and college administrators influence the persistence of Native American women in their doctoral journeys. The conceptual framework for this study is the psychosociolcultural theory (PSC) to help examine the psychological, social, and cultural influences on the educational experiences of minority students in an educational setting. Understanding Covid-19 Vaccination Hesitance Among Registered Nurses, Lucille Fenelon
Understanding Covid-19 Vaccination Hesitance Among Registered Nurses, Lucille Fenelon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The development of the COVID-19 vaccine, while hailed as a groundbreaking scientific achievement, also brought to light a discernible hesitance from registered nurses (RNs) regarding the vaccination. While extensive research has delved into the broader phenomenon of vaccination hesitancy, there remains a notable gap in comprehensively examining the specific lived experiences of RNs in relation to this hesitancy. Thus, the purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of RNs contributing to COVID-19 vaccine hesitance within the context of the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and Roy’s adaptation model. TRA helped to guide this study in identifying the …

Perceived Anxiety Symptoms Of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts Who Work With The Autism Population, Elyra Gonzalez
Perceived Anxiety Symptoms Of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts Who Work With The Autism Population, Elyra Gonzalez
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The increase in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnoses has led to a rise in mental health issues among board-certified behavior analysts (BCBAs). Burnout has been identified as the primary cause of emotional exhaustion, poor work-life balance, and stress. Despite this, direct interviews with BCBAs are limited. Previous research has indicated that BCBAs face high demands in their work; however, their mental health has not been thoroughly evaluated. Cognitive appraisal theory was used to demonstrate that the perceived symptoms are associated with anxiety, not just burnout. Semi-structured interviews with 10 BCBAs were conducted to gain direct feedback on their view of …
