A Comparison Of Third Grade Reading Practices, Objectives, And Achievment Test Results Between A Conventional Program And A Behavioral Objective Approach Program, Charles Henry Massey
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The study was concerned with investigating student achievement testing results, age and sex differences, and teaching practices between a behavioral objective type program and a convetional type program (arbitrarily defined) for the teaching of reading to third grade children as measured by standardized test instruments.
Thirty-one third grade students (16 boys and 15 girls) in the experimental class, with a median age of eight years, were compared with a control class of 33 students (19 boys and 14 girls), with a median age of nine years, as available small samples. Both groups were taught by one teacher.
The instructional materials …
A Follow-Up Study (1970-1972) Of The 1969 State Scholarship Program In The State Of Rhode Island, Fred R. Bocchio, Anthony M. Ferraro
A Follow-Up Study (1970-1972) Of The 1969 State Scholarship Program In The State Of Rhode Island, Fred R. Bocchio, Anthony M. Ferraro
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Introduction
The philosophy and objectives underlying the Rhode Island State Scholarship Program encompassed severa1 basic assumptions about secondary education. Some of these assumptions have changed substantially over the past fifteen years and deserve close consideration. The new emphasis toward equalizing educational opportunities had been reflected in the changing philosophy that guided the administration of student financial aid. The genesis of most aid programs could be found in a concept that fostered the belief in a system built entirely upon meritocracy. This approach provided aid to students with high achievement and measured potential, irrespective of financial need. Educators seeing the inequity …

An Ermerging Model For A New System Of Education In New York State, David Elliot
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This document has been written to serve two distinct but related
purposes. First, it is an attempt to describe a set of educational experiences which will be developed by a consortium of county-wide agencies to meet the existing as well as the emerging needs of learners in Rockland County, New York. To this end, a theoretical operational construct is explicated and the implementation strategies and tactics which are felt to insure a high degree of success for the program relative to realities extant in Rockland County are outlined. Second, an extended rationale reflecting the status of the American society, the …
Grade-Point Averages Of Oversears Military-Dependent Students Compared To Grade-Point Averages Of Non-Military Students, Robert John Eddy
Grade-Point Averages Of Oversears Military-Dependent Students Compared To Grade-Point Averages Of Non-Military Students, Robert John Eddy
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The major purpose of this investigation was to make a comparison of grade-point averages, earned by military dependent students in overseas Dependent Schools, with the grade-point averages of a comparably non-mobile student society with whom they graduated in the united states. The study of the situation existing in the Novato High School, Novato, Marin County, California over a period of years prompted the investigation conducted during the school year 1971-1972. Data for the investigation was derived from the permanent record cards of 2,173 graduated students over a period of five graduating classes, 1966- 1970. The Novato High School has been …

The Relationship Of Self-Concept Changes And Performance On A Paired-Associates Learning Task To Communication Skills Training, Grace Hayden Blanchard
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The study examined the relationship of Communication Skills training to attitudes toward the self and to rate of learning. Sixty fifth-grade subjects from two public school classrooms were tested twice, before and after treatment, on the Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale and a Paired- Associates Learning task. The latter test, administered orally and individually, consisted of ten pictures of common objects. All ten pairs were shown to each subject after which only the first picture of each pair was presented and the subject was asked to recall its picture-associate. The Piers-Harris scale entitled, "The Way I Feel About Myself," a self …
