Implementing A System- Wide Program To Reduce Burnout Among Healthcare Providers, Caroline Njeri Munene
Implementing A System- Wide Program To Reduce Burnout Among Healthcare Providers, Caroline Njeri Munene
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project addresses the pervasive health issue of burnout among healthcare providers, focusing on a community mental health clinic where internal data revealed high levels of staff turnover, absenteeism, medication errors, financial constraints, poor patient outcomes, and low staff satisfaction. Shortage of healthcare providers, exposure to patient trauma, high emotional demands, and administrative burdens are the systemic stressors of burnout at the project site mental health facility. These factors collectively underscored the need for a system-wide burnout reduction program to safeguard provider well-being and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and safety.
Intimate Partner Violence: Serving Heterosexual Male And Same-Sex Victims, David Welch
Intimate Partner Violence: Serving Heterosexual Male And Same-Sex Victims, David Welch
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is an ongoing social problem across nationalities, cultures, socioeconomic statuses, sexual orientations, and genders. Historically, research into IPV has focused on the heterosexual female victim and male perpetrator paradigm, including identifying the root causes of this phenomenon and appropriate treatment models. There is a distinct gap in the current literature addressing how therapists in the psychological community approach working with heterosexual male and same-sex victims of IPV, beginning with case conceptualization. To explore the unique case conceptualization considerations of therapists as they encounter heterosexual male and same-sex IPV victims in their practice, a general phenomenological research …
Improving Hiring Processes In Manufacturing: Hiring Strategies To Support Well-Being And Organizational Effectiveness, Timothy J. Winn
Improving Hiring Processes In Manufacturing: Hiring Strategies To Support Well-Being And Organizational Effectiveness, Timothy J. Winn
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Delays and inefficiencies in the hiring process can significantly hinder production and create instability within the manufacturing workforce. This, in turn, has a negative effect on employee well-being and the overall effectiveness of the organization. The purpose of this qualitative research project, grounded in the Job Demands-Resources model, was to explore successful strategies hiring managers use to address hiring inefficiencies. The study was guided by a pragmatic inquiry design and included semistructured interviews with six hiring managers in the manufacturing sector who held responsibilities related to hiring. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s six-step framework. Data …
Executive Summary: Clinical Practice Guideline Guideline For Identifying Patients At Risk For Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (Ptsd), Doris Chinazo Dibia
Executive Summary: Clinical Practice Guideline Guideline For Identifying Patients At Risk For Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (Ptsd), Doris Chinazo Dibia
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project, I developed a clinical practice guideline to address the absence of a standardized process for identifying adult outpatients at risk for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in a community-based mental health clinic. Without such a process, delays in trauma-focused care and inconsistent referrals may occur. The evidence base supports the use of brief, validated screening tools, such as the Primary Care PTSD Screen for DSM-5, for accurate risk identification in routine practice. The practice-focused question that I used to guide this project was: Will an evidence-based guideline for PTSD risk identification be approved …
Development Of An Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline For A Comprehensive Care Partner Program For Postpartum Women, Abibat Yusuff
Development Of An Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline For A Comprehensive Care Partner Program For Postpartum Women, Abibat Yusuff
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This doctoral project focuses on the development of a clinical practice guideline (CPG) aimed at addressing a critical gap in postpartum care, particularly postpartum depression (PPD), inconsistent follow-up, and low breastfeeding continuation rates, which disproportionately affect African American women and other underserved populations. These gaps contribute to preventable morbidity, poor maternal experiences, and health inequities, making this issue a priority for nursing and public health. The guiding practice-focused question asked if an interdisciplinary team would achieve consensus on a clinical practice guideline for the development of a comprehensive care partner program for postpartum women. Analytical strategies included a systematic evidence …

Executive Summary: Quality Improvement Initiative Enhancing Early Identification Of Adolescent Depression And Anxiety, Delphine Sirri
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Universal staff training to increase the validity and reliability of adolescent mental health screening was implemented in this quality improvement (QI) initiative. Depression and anxiety disorders often emerge between ages 12 and 17, yet evidence-based screening measures such as the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9/PHQ-9M) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) are underutilized due to provider knowledge gaps, workflow inefficiencies, and cultural barriers. Guided by the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model, the project evaluated whether structured staff education improved early identification and diagnosis of adolescent depression and anxiety compared to routine practice. In workshops, web-based learning modules, case simulations, and …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Summary This doctoral, practice-focused quality improvement project used a mixed-methods design to evaluate the usability, acceptability, and clinical integration of a nutrition screening tool in a mental health outpatient clinic. The project addresses a key practice gap, the lack of evaluation of the implementation of a systematic nutrition screening for individuals with severe mental illness (SMI), which contributes to worsening psychiatric symptoms and delayed recovery. Aligning with nursing’s holistic and patient-centered framework, the initiative aimed to strengthen interprofessional collaboration and preventive care. The guiding practice-focused questions addressed: How usable and acceptable is the clinical practice guideline (CPG) tool among clinic …

Junior-Level Women Experiences Influencing Their Departure From The U.S. Coast Guard, Jill Lynn Lazo
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite increasing attention to public service motivation (PSM) in organizational research, there is a notable absence of studies examining the experiences of women in military contexts, particularly within the United States Coast Guard (USCG). This generic qualitative study, grounded in PSM theory, explored why junior-level women in the USCG prematurely exited military service. While existing research on PSM and women is limited and none specifically focused on women in the USCG, this study addressed that gap by interviewing 16 junior-level women who had separated from the USCG between four and eight years prior. The purpose of the study was to …

Perpetration-Induced Traumatic Stress And Moral Injury In Adult Male Incarcerated Individuals, Cyrelah Jeanee Raynor
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Underutilizing trauma-informed approaches in correctional rehabilitation has had detrimental consequences, particularly for gang-involved populations. Theories of personality, responsivity, and stress suggest that gang-affiliated individuals, shaped by coercive environments, may develop psychological reactions such as fear, guilt, and moral shame that contribute to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and moral injury (MI). This study examined whether gang role, psychopathy, and perpetration predicted PTSD and MI among 70 incarcerated adult males. Participants completed the Moral Injury Outcome Scale (MIOS), the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), and the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale (LSRP). Two hierarchical regressions were conducted. In the PTSD model, only education …

Executive Summary: Staff Education Project Staff Education To Close A Knowledge Gap Regarding Restraints, Aaron Ross Ledbetter
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The purpose of this Executive Summary is to address a gap in knowledge that I attempted to close regarding restraint utilization. Restraints, both physical and chemical, have been prevalent over the past ten years and with their increased utilization during the pandemic which has continued post-pandemic. Nursing as a culture has become more reliant on restraints as it allows more time for nurses to provide care elsewhere. Both physical and psychological complications have been recognized during the utilization of physical restraints. Their prominence, although helpful with time constraints for nurses, have shown to negatively impact the patients who they are …

Worsening mental health among college students post-COVID is a growing national health crisis. Grounded in Cacioppo’s evolutionary theory of loneliness and Feeney and Collins’ thriving through relationships theoretical perspectives, the purpose of this study was to explore the degree to which social interaction and social support predicted psychological outcomes among undergraduate students. Survey responses from over 74,000 undergraduate students who completed the ACHA-NCHA survey for Fall 2019, 2021, and 2022 were analyzed. The surveys included the Kessler 6 screening for non-specific mental illness, the Diener flourishing scale, and questions to assess the number of hours spent in categorically-sorted social situations …
Examining Emergent Patterns Of Behavior In White Female Sexual Homicide Offenders, Kristin Bemis
Examining Emergent Patterns Of Behavior In White Female Sexual Homicide Offenders, Kristin Bemis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The majority of studies on sexual homicide offenders (SHOs) have been conducted on male sexual homicide offenders (MSHOs). In many aspects, this is due to society’s reluctance to view women as capable of sexual murder. There have only been a handful of studies conducted on female sexual homicide offenders (FSHOs). However, these studies found substantial differences between MSHOs and FSHOs, as well as between White FSHOs and Black FSHOs. Since prior studies on FSHOs have all been quantitative, this study employed a qualitative case study approach to analyze FSHOs. Using rational choice theory, 12 White FSHO cases were examined, using …

The Repeal Of Welfare Lifetime Ban, Sympathy Sutton Huggins
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The Welfare Lifetime Ban imposed severe restrictions on women’s access to essential resources during the critical period following incarceration. By denying housing assistance, food aid, and employment services, the policy created significant barriers to reintegration and undermines both criminal justice and social welfare reform. Little is known about the long-term impacts of the ban or the absence of effective rehabilitative policy alternatives. Few studies have examined its outcomes within the framework of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA). The findings within (PRWORA) enactment briefly stabilized a decline in welfare recipients, and employment rates increased temporarily for single …
