Traditionally Certified, Second-Career Teachers’ Perceptions Of Intent To Stay In The Classroom, Tara L. Wells
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem that was addressed through this study was the high teacher turnover, including traditionally certified, second-career teachers (TCSCTs), in United States classrooms, despite support and additional resources provided. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine TCSCTs’ perceptions on the reasons and their recommendations to remain in the classroom. Ingersoll's teacher turnover and retention framework was used to conceptually frame this study. Using a basic qualitative design, semistructured interviews were conducted with 12 TCSCTs. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The following themes emerged: TCSCTs remain in the profession primarily due to a sense of purpose in their …

Mean Length Of Stay Based On Original, Financial, And Vision Workflows, Richard Wyatt
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The healthcare industry faces a persistent challenge to balance financial, vision-based, and regulatory goals while maintaining the capacity to serve the public. Healthcare leaders need to understand the impact of using a particular type of workflow redesign to improve their ability to manage patient satisfaction, costs, and length of stay (LOS). Grounded in the Baldrige Excellence Framework, the purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental, comparative study was to compare runtime LOS across encounters for three workflows: original (WF-O), time/cost-based (WF-F), and vision-based (WF-V). The data set included 1 year of intensive care unit admissions from the Physio.Net database. ANOVA was conducted …

The Relative Strength Of Paternal Absence, Strong Black Woman Schema, And Self-Esteem In Predicting Resilience Among Black Women, Aqueelah Wheatley
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The continued rise in single-mother households within Black communities has led to an increase in hyper-independence among Black women, a phenomenon referred to as the strong Black woman schema. Studies have found an association between hyper-independence (i.e., excessive self-reliance and emotional invulnerability) and absent fathers (i.e., due to incarceration or abandonment), forcing Black women to assume the roles of financial provider, caregiver, and community agent. Though studies have found a link between the strong Black woman and negative health outcomes (e.g., emotional distress), other studies have found that strong Black women characterize themselves as independent, empowered, and content individuals, feelings …
