An Explanation Of African American Males' Experiences And Decisions In The Pursuit Of Doctoral Degrees, Vincent L. Tucker
An Explanation Of African American Males' Experiences And Decisions In The Pursuit Of Doctoral Degrees, Vincent L. Tucker
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There was a limited understanding of the lived experiences of African American males who had completed their doctoral degrees, which could provide solutions to the barriers faced by those did not complete the doctoral program. Elements of critical race theory, Vroom’s expectancy theory, and Herzberg’s theory of motivation were combined into a single conceptual framework to understand the barriers experienced by African American men that prevented them from pursuing and completing doctoral programs. The data analysis process included a pre-coding exercise conducted after data collection to identify patterns or commonalities between the two sets of data. The results from this …

Exploring Exemplary Leadership Practices Of Elementary Principals, Latoya R. Gray
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There is insufficient understanding regarding the educational leadership practices that have enabled one elementary school, out of 23, to achieve continuous school improvement in ELA and mathematics in Grades 3–5 over 3 consecutive academic years. Although all schools in the district implemented a uniform curriculum, the study site consistently increased the percentage of students scoring proficient or above in both subjects during 2022, 2023, and 2024, as measured by the state end-of-grade assessment. This qualitative single-case study explored how an elementary principal in a suburban Georgia district achieved continuous improvement through distinctive leadership practices. Grounded in Kouzes and Posner’s framework …

Self-Initiated Police Activity, Crime, And Complaints Against Police, Vincent Joseph Schaan
Self-Initiated Police Activity, Crime, And Complaints Against Police, Vincent Joseph Schaan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This quantitative study aimed to examine the statistical relationship between self-initiated police activity, citizen complaints against police officers, sustained findings of misconduct, and crime within three police agencies located in the southwest United States. Prevailing law enforcement perception fueled by protests and riots infers that reducing proactive policing will decrease complaints. Using chi-square and binary logistic regression, this study analyzed 53,585 police and public contacts to answer three core questions. The statistical tests found a statistically significant inverse relationship between self-initiated police activity and complaints against police, with an odds ratio of 2.386 (95% CI: 1.62,3.50; p<.001). The findings indicate that officers who engage in self-initiated police activity have a 35.95% lower statistical probability of facing a citizen complaint. This study also found no statistically significant relationship between actual police misconduct and self-initiated police activity. The findings advocate for evidence-based decision-making based on statistical data, which found a reduced probability of complaints when law enforcement officers initiate public and police interactions. These findings contribute to positive social change by providing critical knowledge and information, and creating the potential for law enforcement officers and agencies to improve their relationships with the public by reducing complaints. Increasing self-initiated police activity provides a gateway to a reduction in crime and fewer complaints against police; therefore, data and information may motivate agencies and officers to increase self-initiated police activity to help reduce complaints and reduce crime.

Moderating Role Of Locus Of Control On The Relationship Between Self-Efficacy And Trust In Ai, Amelia Gillies
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into essential sectors, including healthcare, customer services, and defense, has underscored the importance of user trust in AI systems. Psychological traits such as locus of control (the extent to which individuals attribute outcomes to internal or external factors) and self-efficacy (individuals’ confidence in their ability) have been identified as significant factors influencing trust in these automated systems. Previous studies have independently linked these psychological traits to trust in technology; however, there has been limited exploration of potential moderating effects of locus of control on the relationship between digital technology self-efficacy and trust in …

Gender And Age Differences Among Juvenile Homicide Offenders, Amanda Nichole-Wells Jabaay
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The involvement of juveniles in homicide-related crimes has been a matter of growing public concern in the United States. Teachers' Perceptions Of Education Policies To Reduce Racial And Gender Achievement Gaps, Lisa Mondett Davis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Teachers possess valuable knowledge about classroom experiences that remains untapped in educational policymaking, particularly concerning persistent achievement gaps for Black female students, which have resulted in less effective student academic growth outcomes when compared to White female peers. Although prior research has indicated the implementation of targeted education policies, few studies have explored how excluding educators’ insights about these policies have caused the achievement gap to widen based on race and gender comparisons. Grounded in Black feminist theory, the purpose of this qualitative intrinsic case study was to explore Black female teachers’ perspectives of how education policies influence the achievement …

Sustainability Planning For Waste Management In Midwestern Small Suburban Cities, Karen Frances Goodwin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Sustainability planning in small suburban cities, particularly as it relates to waste management programs, remains an underexplored area in scholarly research. The purpose of this study was to examine sustainable waste management policy processes that enable sustainability planning in Midwestern small suburban cities. Using Jones et al.’s local adaptive capacity framework and Q-methodology, viewpoint patterns were analyzed to understand what motivates decision-makers to foster an environment conducive to sustainability planning. Thirty-one participants representing three local government …
