Logistics Leader Strategies For Retaining Employees, Sandra Northern
Logistics Leader Strategies For Retaining Employees, Sandra Northern
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Low employee retention can lead to a lack of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for sustainable logistics operations. Logistics leaders are concerned with employee retention because turnover increases business costs, reduces operational efficiency, and decreases profitability. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore strategies logistics leaders use to increase employee retention. The participants were three senior leaders from a logistics organization in the northeast region of the United States who possessed knowledge and experience of the research phenomena. Data were collected through semistructured interviews, company documents, publicly available data, and …

Nurses’ Perception Of Pain Assessment In Cognitively Impaired Older Residents In Long-Term Care, Abigail Owolabi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractPain has been a significant problem in old age and is more problematic in cognitively impaired older residents (CIOR) because of their inability to express themselves. The goal of pain assessment in CIOR is to treat pain before it escalates to behavioral problems. This descriptive qualitative study aimed to explore nurses’ perceptions of pain assessment in CIOR in long-term care facilities. Watson’s theory of human caring was used to frame the study. A purposive sample of eight nurses was recruited from two long-term care facilities for interviews conducted using the telephone and continued until saturation was reached. Data was manually …

Disparities among Black women in management positions have gained traction and increased awareness; however, they remain underrepresented in corporate America. This qualitative study involved understanding Black women managers’ experiences with gendered racism in corporate finance. The generic qualitative study used intersectionality theory to illuminate the challenges of the intersecting identities of being a Black woman in corporate finance. Thirteen participants were …
Predictive Relationships Between Organizational Climate, Teacher Stress, And Teacher Turnover Intention, Susan L. Roebuck
Predictive Relationships Between Organizational Climate, Teacher Stress, And Teacher Turnover Intention, Susan L. Roebuck
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The turnover rate for secondary school educators has increased to the highest in almost 30 years. Public teachers who leave teaching reported that general working conditions, increased job demands, and the inability to manage their workloads (organizational climate) contributed to their decision. The problem addressed in this study is that teacher turnover has negative impacts, including poor student performance and decreased teacher effectiveness of remaining teachers. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to determine the extent to which organizational climate and teacher stress predict teacher turnover intention. The theoretical framework applied to the interpretation of the statistical results …

Perception Of Effective Leadership Concerning Nurse Satisfaction And Intent To Leave, Tina Marie Rose
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Nurses are an essential part of patient care, and improving retention is important to quality outcomes and the cost of care. An integral aspect of nurse retention is job satisfaction, which may relate to communication provided by organizational leadership. The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine if there was a relationship between perceived effective leadership, nurse job satisfaction, and nurse turnover intent. This potential relationship between leadership communication and nurse turnover was studied with the competing values framework as the theoretical structure. The two research questions addressed the independent variables of perceived effective leadership in a hospital setting …
Transitional Care For The End Stage Renal Disease Patient, Elaine Vitto
Transitional Care For The End Stage Renal Disease Patient, Elaine Vitto
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractThe prevalence rates for end stage renal disease (ESRD) have continued to rise by approximately 20,000 cases per year, and the number of patients with kidney failure requiring dialysis in the United States had reached 554,038 at the end of 2018. Transition of care for patients between acute care facilities and other care facilities such as dialysis centers remains challenging for providers. Lack of clear communication between providers, poor patient understanding of post-hospital self-care, and gaps in healthcare scheduling contribute to a high rate of adverse events. This facility did not have a detailed clinical guideline for ESRD communication between …

Bullying was a pervasive issue affecting high schools in the United States despite anti-bullying programs. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the perceptions of former high school bullying victims about why anti-bullying programs have not reduced incidents of bullying. The conceptual framework that supported this study was Bronfenbrenner’s ecology of human development, a theory that assumes an individual’s development is affected by the changing environment and the larger social context in which the environment resides. The research questions were designed to find out why anti-bullying efforts have been ineffective in preventing bullying incidents and what participants believe …

Behavioral health leaders can positively impact employee engagement by engaging in trauma-informed behavioral health leadership. This qualitative case study reviews the impact of trauma-informed behavioral health leadership on employee engagement at a large Child Advocacy Center in the northeastern United States who was struggling with low levels of employee engagement and high levels of turnover …

Two to three students per class suffer from visual-motor deficits such as convergence insufficiency. Though there are treatment plans to assist with the disability over time outside of the school, there are no general inventions set in place in the public school system to assist visual-motor deficit students from systemically falling behind academically each year. The purpose of this study was to explore instructional strategies secondary special education teachers of an inclusive setting use to assist students who struggle with notetaking due to visual or visual-motor deficits known or unknown as convergence insufficiency. I’M Ok: Black Women’S Perceptions Of Vulnerability And Coping, Bridget Lewis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Within the social work profession, there has been limited understanding of tailoring treatment and coping strategies specific to Black women. The parallelism of Black women and strength has created a generational, internal conflict with maintaining the cultural label known as the strong Black woman (SBW) and stigma related to seeking help to improve mental health. The stigma associated with seeking help has hindered Black women from communicating thoughts or behaviors that categorize vulnerability. Grounded in the SBW collective theory and Black womanist theory, this study explored how the SBW stereotype impacts the communication on vulnerability and coping strategies Black women …

Abstract Neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) are fast-paced units requiring skilled nurses to care for a unique patient population. Orientation of new nurses to the NICU can be challenging for both the orientee and the preceptor. Offering an evidence-based practice orientation program by an accredited organization that is specific to NICU can be a valuable tool for both the preceptor and the orientee as well as enhance nurse, patient, and organizational outcomes. The project question explored if use of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) 15-module nursing orientation program for RNs in a NICU increased their …

Cardiomems Staff Education To Improve Use Of Pulmonary Artery Sensor Data In An Emergency Department, Betty Sue Reynolds
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Assessing volume status in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) remains a difficult task. Newer technology, such as CardioMEMS, allows providers to download pulmonary artery pressure measurements from an implanted sensor. In a large rural emergency department (ED), lack of staff education on CardioMEMS made the device useless when a patient presented to the ED. The purpose of this project was to develop a staff education in-service to address the gap in practice. The theory used to guide development of an effective curricular program and instruction method was Knowles’ theory of andragogy. Application of the analysis, design, development, implementation, and …
