Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This evaluation of the effectiveness of a quality improvement initiative project aimed to reduce ER readmissions and improve medication adherence among homeless individuals with schizophrenia by implementing an integrated care model. These individuals face substantial barriers to healthcare, including housing instability and limited access to resources, leading to frequent ER visits that strain healthcare systems. Addressing this issue is essential for nursing practice to optimize resource use and improve patient outcomes. The project examined whether a coordinated approach integrating medical and social services could lower ER visits and enhance adherence to treatment. Statistical analyses showed that postimplementation medication adherence increased …

Understanding Covid-19 Vaccination Hesitance Among Registered Nurses, Lucille Fenelon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The development of the COVID-19 vaccine, while hailed as a groundbreaking scientific achievement, also brought to light a discernible hesitance from registered nurses (RNs) regarding the vaccination. While extensive research has delved into the broader phenomenon of vaccination hesitancy, there remains a notable gap in comprehensively examining the specific lived experiences of RNs in relation to this hesitancy. Thus, the purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of RNs contributing to COVID-19 vaccine hesitance within the context of the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and Roy’s adaptation model. TRA helped to guide this study in identifying the …

Attachment Styles Predicting School Engagement In Nontraditional Graduate Students, Aline Benamou-Fruchter
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Understanding how attachment styles influence nontraditional graduate students’ engagement is essential for advancing theoretical knowledge and developing targeted support systems in higher education. While research confirms that attachment styles affect academic outcomes, including perceptions of institutional support and learning environments, nontraditional graduate students remain underrepresented in engagement studies. Using Bowlby’s attachment theory as a guiding framework, this study investigated the relationship between secure, anxious, and avoidant attachment styles and behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. The Attachment Style Questionnaire, University Student Engagement Inventory, and a sociodemographic survey were employed, with data analyzed through a one-way MANOVA. Significant differences were found between …

Prevalent Themes Of Messages Related To Sexual Risk Behaviors Targeting Young Black Women In Social Media, Dominique Lache' Gadson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Black women have been shown in mainstream media and social media in ways that reinforce negative stereotypes and reduce them to objects, which leads to the sexualization and stigmatization of their bodies and sexuality. There was a gap in understanding how exposure to social media content may influence sexual behavior and identity among young Black women, and how hypersexualized narratives sparked by stories in social media reflect sexual risk-taking. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore and track popular social media sites to determine the themes of the messages most frequently viewed targeting Black women. The research question …

Perceived Anxiety Symptoms Of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts Who Work With The Autism Population, Elyra Gonzalez
Perceived Anxiety Symptoms Of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts Who Work With The Autism Population, Elyra Gonzalez
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The increase in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnoses has led to a rise in mental health issues among board-certified behavior analysts (BCBAs). Burnout has been identified as the primary cause of emotional exhaustion, poor work-life balance, and stress. Despite this, direct interviews with BCBAs are limited. Previous research has indicated that BCBAs face high demands in their work; however, their mental health has not been thoroughly evaluated. Cognitive appraisal theory was used to demonstrate that the perceived symptoms are associated with anxiety, not just burnout. Semi-structured interviews with 10 BCBAs were conducted to gain direct feedback on their view of …
