Exploring The Contextual Antecedents Of Nonfamilial Aggression In Women Arrested For Aggressive Behavior, Tatiana Pouncy
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The prevalence of physical aggression among women has increased, challenging traditional gender norms that portray women as nurturing and nonviolent. While most research on aggression has focused on men, children, or intimate partner violence, research is sparse concerning female aggression outside familial contexts. In this qualitative multiple-case study, the contextual antecedents of nonfamilial aggression in women arrested for aggressive behavior were explored using the general aggression model as the theoretical framework. Data were obtained from 20 publicly documented cases using archival sources such as media stories, court documents, and video recordings. According to thematic and document analysis, aggressive behavior was …

This study was grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory, Bauer and Erdogan’s onboarding theory, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and Bandura’s social …
Staff Education To Reduce Alarm Fatigue And Enhance Patient Safety Through Nurse Education On Telemetry Optimization, Casey Alan Metcalf
Staff Education To Reduce Alarm Fatigue And Enhance Patient Safety Through Nurse Education On Telemetry Optimization, Casey Alan Metcalf
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Summary This project was an evidence-based staff education initiative to reduce alarm fatigue and enhance patient safety through telemetry optimization in an acute care setting. The core issue involved the overuse of continuous cardiac monitoring, which contributed to nonactionable alarms, alarm fatigue, workflow inefficiencies, delayed throughput, and increased costs. The project was a structured intervention delivered to 171 telemetry nurses across three inpatient units. Pretests and posttests measured changes in knowledge, intent, and practice. Results showed a 22.9% increase in knowledge, a 92% agreement regarding intention to follow discontinuation protocols, and a 10% overall reduction in practice of telemetry use …
Staff Education On The Abbreviated Teachers’ Rating Scale (Atrs) Tool As A Screening Tool For Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Adhd)., Tena E. Currie
Staff Education On The Abbreviated Teachers’ Rating Scale (Atrs) Tool As A Screening Tool For Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Adhd)., Tena E. Currie
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This doctoral project is a staff education program to enhance the treatment and diagnosis of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at a mental healthcare facility. The identified practice problem was the lack of knowledge about the Abbreviated Teacher Rating Scale (ATRS) used in ADHD testing, which may result in inaccuracies and underutilization of the tool. To bridge this gap is essential in nursing practice as clinicians should be competent in performing standard assessment, which is indispensable for patient with ADHD. Staff education with the ATRS was the practice-directed question for the project: Does staff education with the ATRS increase knowledge for …

Mandatory Minimum State Compensation Statutes For Exonerees Of Wrongful Incarceration, Ellen Rochelle Mabry
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Receiving fair and equitable compensation for victims of wrongful incarceration post-release continues to be problematic, inconsistent, and inadequate. This qualitative study addresses the gap in knowledge by exploring the unsatisfactory and varying compensation statutes across states that adversely affect and compound the experiences of exonerees through systemic injustices. The conceptual frameworks for this study are Weible & Sabatier’s guide to the advocacy coalition framework and Jenkins-Smith, et.al, using cultural theory to specify belief systems, coalitions, and sources of change. Research questions focus on how exonerees describe their experiences with unfair and unequal state compensation laws for victims of wrongful imprisonment, …
Blood Culture Contamination Rates, Jackqueline R. Easley
Blood Culture Contamination Rates, Jackqueline R. Easley
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The timely and accurate collection of blood culture specimens is essential for improving patient outcomes and minimizing complications. Contaminated specimens can lead to unnecessary antibiotic use, prolonged hospital stays, and delays in appropriate treatment. At one eastern healthcare facility, monthly blood culture contamination rates reached an average of 4.5%, prompting the need for a targeted intervention. The objective of this project was to determine whether a structured process and trained team could reduce contamination rates to below 1%. De-identified data were reviewed using descriptive statistics to observe contamination trends over time, by department, and by month. Using the t-test, contamination …

Implementing Clinical Guidelines To Improve The Number Of Inpatient Visits At A Mental Health Clinic, Kimberly Rochelle Miles
Implementing Clinical Guidelines To Improve The Number Of Inpatient Visits At A Mental Health Clinic, Kimberly Rochelle Miles
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This DNP quality improvement project focused on addressing a critical gap in psychiatric care: the high rate of missed inpatient mental health visits. Missed follow-up appointments after hospital discharge are associated with medication nonadherence, relapse, hospital readmissions, psychiatric decompensation, and increased emergency department use. In severe cases, they may increase suicide risk. Contributing factors include patient-level barriers such as cognitive impairment, socioeconomic instability, stigma, low motivation, and transportation difficulties, as well as systemic issues like inadequate discharge planning and lack of standardized follow-up protocols. The evidence-based practice question guiding this project was: Will a clinical practice guideline (CPG) improve number …
