Innovation-Driven Growth In Heavy Equipment Firms, Raynald J. Gallant
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Lack of innovation-driven revenue growth can have adverse effects on organizational outcomes. Company leaders who do not pursue innovation put their firm's survival at risk. Grounded in Christensen's theory of disruptive innovation and Rogers's diffusion of innovation theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between company culture, company maturity, company revenue, and innovation-driven revenue growth rate in global heavy equipment manufacturing firms. Secondary data (N = 50) were collected from the Yellow Table, an annual listing of the top 50 global heavy equipment companies by revenue from 2002 to 2018. The results of the …

Sex Bias In The Diagnosis Of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Olga Ivan Belitchenko Ryan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity, mortality, disability, and cost globally and in the United States. Various sources point to women experiencing greater morbidity, increased health care resource use and higher incidence of mortality resultant from COPD. While exact causality is not fully understood, it is possible that social bias towards COPD in women impacting screening and timely diagnosis may be a contributing factor. This current investigation involved the social ecological model. In this cross-sectional secondary analysis of Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, 2017 data, differences in screening through use of breathing testing among 6334 …

According to the American Psychiatric Association, Black women engage in formal mental health services at a lower rate than White men and women. In addition, the issues faced by Black women engaging in mental health services are multiplicative, major, and often divisive. Much of the research to date has centered on the barriers to, and negative experiences of, Black women in mental health. Grounded in critical race theory and Black womanist thought, this study investigated the lived experiences of Black women who voluntarily engaged in mental health services. Verbal Abuse Toward Early Career Nurses And The Effect To Workforce Operations, Steven G. Purdon
Verbal Abuse Toward Early Career Nurses And The Effect To Workforce Operations, Steven G. Purdon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractSeveral studies report that healthcare workers face verbal abuse from patients, patients’ family members, and other healthcare personnel at increasingly higher rates, and trends depict early-career registered nurses (ECRNs) are affected disproportionally. This negative trend can affect the future registered nurse (RN) workforce and create a potential shortfall of qualified nurses. It has become increasingly important for hospital administrators to mitigate verbal abuse among ECRNs to manage their future RN workforce. This purpose of this quantitative study was to empirically evaluate the effects of verbal abuse towards ECRNs. This study used the social exchange theory to provide a framework that …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The laws, policies, and rehabilitation programs of Georgia’s juvenile justice system need to be revisited, especially given the documented rates of recidivism of African American male juveniles in southwest Georgia. The primary purpose of the juvenile justice system is to rehabilitate youthful offenders and to ensure that recidivism, defined as 3 or more arrests within 3 years after release, does not occur. Data have suggested that corrective behavior sanctions, rehabilitation programs, and lenient sentencing have escalated African American male juvenile recidivism rates, particularly in Dougherty and Tift Counties, Georgia. The purpose of this qualitative methodological study was to explore the …

Since the start of military operations following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the nation has experienced the longest sustained war in its history. Military couples are at an increased risk of experiencing relationship stressors due to supporting long-term global military operations. Most of the research literature identifying the difficulties experienced by active-duty military couples was conducted over the past two decades following September 11, 2001. Missing from the literature are present-day problems facing military couples seeking counseling following the drawdown of overseas military operations (see United States Government Accountability Office [U.S. GAO], 2016). The purpose of this action …

Clinician Experiences With Religious, Spiritual, And Nonreligious Beliefs In Psychotherapeutic Interactions, Carolyn Rochelle Cowl-Witherspoon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Psychologists are ethically bound to respect the belief systems of their clients while practicing within appropriate boundaries of competence regardless of whether they hold different beliefs than their clients. Further, though there may be a disparity between cliniciansâ and clientsâ beliefs, most clients expect meaningful integrations of religious and spiritual beliefs, values, and traditions into psychotherapeutic interactions. To meet the needs and expectations of a religiously or spiritually oriented client base, psychologists must maintain appropriate levels of competency within this complex domain. But clinicians are hindered by inaccurate, incomplete, or inconsistent levels of education and training specific to the ethically …
