Contributing Factors Affecting Health Care Access And Utilization Behaviors By Black Men In The United States, Alonzo Pendleton
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Generational racism, historical abuses, and mistreatment related to health care have long contributed to a lack of trust among Black Americans in the U.S. health system, as well as disproportionate health status due to inadequate medical care-seeking behavior. Black American men have been particularly affected, with worse health and a higher mortality rate than men and women of other U.S. ethnic groups. The causal factors that manifest and sow distrust of the medical community among Black men are not thoroughly understood. The purpose of this study, which had the health belief model as its theoretical framework, was to explore the …

Electrical Field Service Employees’ Intent To Stay Or Leave, Jeffrey Daniels
Electrical Field Service Employees’ Intent To Stay Or Leave, Jeffrey Daniels
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Electrical field service leaders are concerned with losing human capital as it requires the shifting or reallocating of economic and non-economic resources to maintain operations and financial goals. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between general job satisfaction, employee motivation, and employee turnover intentions. Participants included 51 electrical field service leaders in the electrical field service industry who completed the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Motivational Trait Questionnaire. The multiple linear regression analysis results indicated the model could significantly predict employee turnover intentions, F(2, 48) = 15.29, p < .001, R2 = .389. In the final model, general job satisfaction was the only significant contributor (t = -5.15, p = < .001, β = -0.586). A key recommendation is for electrical field service leaders to implement goals around the mastery of a particular task, quarterly competitions around goal attainment, and regularly scheduled team meetings. The implications for positive social change include the potential to improve work–life balance, shift more time invested into the local community, and update models incorporating a multicultural workforce in the services sector.

Disparate Access To Medical Coverage Associated With Type 2 Diabetes Care In Low-Income And Rural Communities In Georgia, Crystal Alexis Symone Edwards
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Disparate access to diabetes care in rural and low-income communities among older adults has been an ongoing issue among Americans. Type 2 diabetes in low-income and rural communities has continuously burdened many residents due to age, costs of care, income, geographic location, and education levels. Researchers have demonstrated that providing resources and tools to rural and low-income communities would assist in decreasing type 2 diabetes and increase education and awareness. The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional study using secondary data was to examine the relationship between health insurance status and lack of access to health care resources and delay of …

Practice Size And Geographical Location And Annual Merit-Based Incentive Payment System Scores In Dermatology, Issam H. Harmouch
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite the transition to value-based care in the healthcare industry using the Merit-Based Incentive Payment Systems (MIPS), small and rural physician practices still score in the poor category annually. These poor performances negatively impact funding for staffing and service availability; further, little research has focused on the factors behind these poor performance scores. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between practice size and organization geographical location on annual MIPS scores among dermatologists in the South-Central United States. The Donabedian model was used as the theoretical framework for this study that focused on the three qualities of …

Sociodemographic Predictors Of Veterans’ Health-Related Quality Of Life, Tamala Jones Choice
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a theoretical concept that intertwines physical, mental, emotional, and social functioning, with a focus on the impact that health status has on quality of life. Although sociodemographic factors are associated with lower HRQoL, how these factors influence HRQoL in military veterans is less understood. The study’s purpose was to examine the relationships between sociodemographic characteristics (gender, military pay grade, military branch, and geographic location) and perceived HRQoL measured by the SF-8 survey among veterans living in a metropolitan community in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. A cross-sectional recruitment study design yielded 90 …
