Factors Influencing Non-Perennial Stream Initiation In The Mt. Hood National Forest, Allison Bast Sep 2026

Factors Influencing Non-Perennial Stream Initiation In The Mt. Hood National Forest, Allison Bast

Dissertations and Theses

Historically, non-perennial headwater streams have been overlooked due to their small size and infrequent flow regimes, often leading to them not being recognized as legitimate streams, despite scientific evidence that has shown these streams significantly affect the quality of downstream waters. To combat this issue, environmental managers need to be able to accurately identify and delineate the origins of these streams; however, despite decades of research, an accurate, universal method for predicting how and where these streams commence has yet to be developed. Early studies conducted in steep, humid environments, identified a strong inverse linear relationship between the size of …

Mission-Scoped 5g Network Lifecycle With Disconnected Udm Cache And Cryptographic Revocation, Bart Van De Velde, Andreas Enotiadis Sep 2026

Mission-Scoped 5g Network Lifecycle With Disconnected Udm Cache And Cryptographic Revocation, Bart Van De Velde, Andreas Enotiadis

Defensive Publications Series

A system is proposed herein that defines fifth-generation (5G) subscriber, credential, and policy state for a mission as a machine-readable mission object. The mission object can be staged, instantiated, operated during a loss of central connectivity using a scoped local Unified Data Management (UDM) cache, and dissolved under policy control. The system combines a mission lifecycle state machine with cryptographic revocation of subscriber identity module (SIM), embedded SIM (eSIM), device, and policy assets at mission end.

Using Digital Engagement Methods To Balance Democracy And Efficiency In Public Decision Making, Catherine Zietse Sep 2026

Using Digital Engagement Methods To Balance Democracy And Efficiency In Public Decision Making, Catherine Zietse

PNHA Review

At the bedrock of our democratic society is the active participation of everyday people in shaping public affairs. Local governments seek to build inclusive and democratic processes for decision making, while at the same time being good stewards of scarce resources to efficiently address immediate needs of the community. This paper explores the role of digital engagement in balancing democracy and efficiency in public decision-making by looking at both theory and practice. Academic literature and case studies from the field show that technology and digital engagement platforms do not circumvent the risks of traditional engagement methods but provide both opportunities …

The Thank-All-Nearby Primitive: One-Tap Anonymous Gratitude Transfer To Everyone Nearby Over Bluetooth Low Energy Proximity, Thon Ly Sep 2026

The Thank-All-Nearby Primitive: One-Tap Anonymous Gratitude Transfer To Everyone Nearby Over Bluetooth Low Energy Proximity, Thon Ly

Defensive Publications Series

We specify a one-tap broadcast operation for anonymous peer-to-peer value transfer to every co-present, human-verified recipient within Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) proximity, optionally carrying money or time, in which each recipient receives a verifiable receipt and the sender receives no exportable record. The recipient set is resolved by physical co-presence rather than account lookup: devices advertise rotating, unlinkable proximity beacons, with ultra-wideband ranging and peer-to-peer nearby-connection APIs as optional substrates, and the platform learns only that two devices were in range, never absolute location. Components: (1) sender authentication by a per-action passkey signature, within a proof-of-humanity layer attesting a distinct …

The Gratitude-Riding Currency Tag: Qr And Nfc Markers On Circulating Banknotes For Tracking And Voluntary Tipping, Thon Ly Sep 2026

The Gratitude-Riding Currency Tag: Qr And Nfc Markers On Circulating Banknotes For Tracking And Voluntary Tipping, Thon Ly

Defensive Publications Series

We specify a scannable tag (QR code or NFC tag) carried on a circulating banknote so that a tip's thank-you message travels with the cash: gratitude metadata attached to physical currency rather than to a transaction record. A giver leaving a tip stamps or affixes the mark on a lowest-denomination note; any later holder scans it in a mobile browser to read the accumulated messages (text, photo, video or voice), add their own, and pass the note onward, so the note's ordinary circulation is the distribution channel.

The disclosure specifies: a physical mark bearing no words, brand or advertisement, only …

Whose Turn, Not Who's Best: Round-Robin Rotation Over A Boolean Liveness Predicate For Unranked Local Business Discovery, Thon Ly Sep 2026

Whose Turn, Not Who's Best: Round-Robin Rotation Over A Boolean Liveness Predicate For Unranked Local Business Discovery, Thon Ly

Defensive Publications Series

We specify an unranked local-business discovery system in which candidates are ordered by a publicly verifiable round-robin rotation (algorithm, per-cycle seed and recomputation tool published) and admitted by a boolean activity predicate instead of a ranking score. Admission asks only whether a participant's account balance has returned to zero within one published, global time window; amplitude and volume are excluded, so admission is a rate that cannot be accumulated or purchased. The discovery turn belongs to the payer, not the merchant: candidates are presented when a user spends from a forward-only, locality-restricted gratuity account, so the system has no merchant-facing …

Discourse Of Open Party Contestation In Jemaah Tarbiyah In Indonesia, Gili Argenti, Caroline Paskarina, Nani Darmayanti, Nandang Alamsah Deliarnoor Sep 2026

Discourse Of Open Party Contestation In Jemaah Tarbiyah In Indonesia, Gili Argenti, Caroline Paskarina, Nani Darmayanti, Nandang Alamsah Deliarnoor

Jurnal Wacana Politik

Factionalization in Indonesian political parties is commonly explained by elite rivalry, coalition choices, or clientelistic interests, leaving intra-party conflict over the meaning of ideology less well explained. This article asks how the discourse of an open party constructs and reveals ideological contestation within Jemaah Tarbiyah and how that contestation contributed to the emergence of the Gelora Indonesia Party. Using Teun A. van Dijk's critical discourse analysis (CDA), the study integrates textual analysis, social cognition, and social context. The empirical material consists of in-depth interviews with 20 purposively selected actors from PKS, GARBI, Gelora, and related Tarbiyah networks, together with party …

The Predictive Scoring For Dynamic Payment Routing And User Interface Adaptation, Sree Sitamahalakshmi Moguluru Sep 2026

The Predictive Scoring For Dynamic Payment Routing And User Interface Adaptation, Sree Sitamahalakshmi Moguluru

Defensive Publications Series

In the field of digital payment processing, transaction routing systems can operate reactively by identifying performance degradation within a payment processor's network after user transactions have failed. A predictive payment orchestration framework can utilize a machine learning inference engine to generate a real-time authorization probability score for a transaction across multiple available payment processors. This score can be calculated using real-time telemetry signals from the processors and the specific metadata of the pending transaction. Based on the calculated scores, an execution engine can dynamically route the payment to a selected processor or signal a user-facing interface (e.g., a web application, …

“Whenever You Are Using Media, You Should Always Have A Purpose”: A Study Of Chinese Immigrant Mothers’ Media Practices, Xiaoning Gui, Daniel G. Krutka Sep 2026

“Whenever You Are Using Media, You Should Always Have A Purpose”: A Study Of Chinese Immigrant Mothers’ Media Practices, Xiaoning Gui, Daniel G. Krutka

Journal of Media Literacy Education Pre-Prints

This qualitative study explores how eleven Mandarin-speaking Chinese immigrant mothers of young children in a southwestern U.S. city navigate and mediate media in their households. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Findings show mothers balance media’s educational affordances with concerns about health and age-appropriate content, employing gatekeeping, time limits, and purposeful sharing. Mothers described children as learners, co-learners, and cultural connectors, sometimes reversing mediation by teaching mothers about U.S. media norms. Interpreted through a lens of Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy while also drawing on Confucian concepts, results underscore the need for early childhood educators to honor immigrant families’ practices while fostering …

Adapting To Change: A Mixed Methods Approach To Understand How Colleges And Universities Are Utilizing Animals To Help Students Transition Into Higher Education, Christopher Puglisi, Shalini Mathew, Nicole D. Schutter, Monte Meyerink, Abiah George Sep 2026

Adapting To Change: A Mixed Methods Approach To Understand How Colleges And Universities Are Utilizing Animals To Help Students Transition Into Higher Education, Christopher Puglisi, Shalini Mathew, Nicole D. Schutter, Monte Meyerink, Abiah George

People and Animals: The International Journal of Research and Practice

Individuals experience several changes in their lives, with one of the most impactful being leaving home to attend college. It is no surprise that college-age students need mental health support, especially in times of adjustment. To address this adjustment, animal-assisted interventions (AAI) have recently gained substantial attention. In this study, college and university departments that help students transition to higher education were surveyed (N = 59) and interviewed (N = 6) to understand how AAI are utilized. Results indicate that AAI have potential to ease students’ higher education transition, though institutions must establish an outline that states the benefits of …

Sociodemographic And Geographic Factors Underlying Breast Cancer Survival Disparities Among Women In The United States, Colletta Brabham-Orr Sep 2026

Sociodemographic And Geographic Factors Underlying Breast Cancer Survival Disparities Among Women In The United States, Colletta Brabham-Orr

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Breast cancer-specific mortality in the United States remains higher among women in rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged areas, yet few population-based studies have been conducted to jointly scrutinize demographic and structural determinants of this disparity. Informed by the social determinants of health framework, this secondary data analysis, using records from the SEER Research Plus database, examined the association between age at diagnosis, race and ethnicity, rural/urban residence, county-level median household income, and breast cancer-specific mortality among U.S. women aged 18 and older diagnosed with malignant invasive breast cancer between 2010 and 2020 (N = 285,865). Bivariate chi-square tests and binary logistic …

Regulating Religious Coexistence : The Intricacies Of Interfaith Cooperation In Coastal Kenya, Erik Meinema Sep 2026

Regulating Religious Coexistence : The Intricacies Of Interfaith Cooperation In Coastal Kenya, Erik Meinema

Ohio University Press Open Access Books

Regulating Religious Coexistence offers a compelling ethnographic analysis of how Muslims, Christians, and practitioners of indigenous African religions negotiate coexistence in Kenya’s coastal region. The book conceptualizes religious diversity as a dynamic field shaped by multiple partly intersecting and partly conflicting models of interaction. These include the political secularism promoted by the Kenyan state and civil society organizations focused on interfaith harmony, forms of competition between religious groups, and pluralistic practices in which individuals draw on multiple traditions to meet spiritual needs.

Through a close examination of civil society initiatives funded by Western donors to foster peacebuilding and to counter …

Syllabus “Struggles That Connect Us: From South Africa To Palestine To The United States”—A 14-Day Study Abroad Course In Cape Town, South Africa, Nafisa Tanjeem

Nafisa Tanjeem, Struggles that Connect Us: From South Africa to Palestine to the United States” - A 14-Day Study Abroad Course in Cape Town, South Africa

This course challenges conventional approaches to global engagement and study abroad by integrating decolonial, anti-racist, and feminist lenses with experiential learning to explore how historical and contemporary systems of power, inequity, and resistance operate across borders. It invites students to think beyond national boundaries, evaluate how their own identities and positionalities shape their perspectives and actions, and engage ethically and critically with interconnected struggles.

The Fragmentation Of Helcar: A Paratethyan Model For Rhûn, Núrnen And The Dead Marshes, Federico Manzoni Sep 2026

The Fragmentation Of Helcar: A Paratethyan Model For Rhûn, Núrnen And The Dead Marshes, Federico Manzoni

Journal of Tolkien Research

This work proposes a conjectural paleogeographic model linking the Sea of Rhûn, Núrnen and the Dead Marshes to the former Sea of Helcar. Beginning from Christopher Tolkien's suggestion that Rhûn may represent Helcar ``vastly shrunken,'' the study combines textual evidence, the Ambarkanta, Fonstad's cartographic reconstructions, and terrestrial analogues drawn from the evolution of the Paratethys, the Messinian Salinity Crisis and other endorheic basins. Helcar is interpreted not merely as an isolated body of deep water but as the centre of a broader hydrological province subsequently partitioned by relief change, sedimentary infilling, basin isolation and drainage reorganization. Within this model, Rhûn …

Sub-Saharan African Women’S Experiences Of Social Support During Childbirth In Finland, Emma Kwegyir-Afful, Anita Wikberg Sep 2026

Sub-Saharan African Women’S Experiences Of Social Support During Childbirth In Finland, Emma Kwegyir-Afful, Anita Wikberg

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background: Over 50% of the estimated 90 million international migrants in Europe are women, many of whom are of childbearing age (Fair et al., 2020). Poorer pregnancy and birth outcomes are common among ethnic minority women (Soltani et al., 2020). In Finland Sub-Saharan African women (SSAW) are more likely to undergo caesarean section than Finnish women (Bastola et al., 2020).

Social support which is both informational (providing information for problem-solving) and emotional (offering care and/or trust) is key social determinant of health. It can be acquired through informal networks such as friends, family, and ethnic communities or through formal networks …

Power Of Connection: China’S New Paradigm For Open S&T Cooperation Via Global Networks Of Young Scientists, Meng Wang, Shaoshan Liu, Siok Yee Chan, Chunbo Gao, Francesco Maurelli, David Govoni

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)

As China rises in the global innovation landscape, relying solely on attracting talent back home (“bringing in”) is no longer sufficient to meet the demands of the new stage of S&T development. Greater emphasis must be placed on “going out” to strengthen the influence in international rules and standards. Early-career scientists, at the peak of creativity and international mobility, are the pivotal group driving this transition. This study proposes a four-in-one framework, Talent–Open Source–Standards–Scenarios, which highlights leveraging global youth science networks to transform engineering practices into contributions to international rule-making. In terms of implementation, the study takes the Global Young …

Evolution Of Economic Geography’S Focus On Resource Studies: Historical Trajectory, Research Progress, And Emerging Trends, Yanxiang Fan, Canfei He

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)

Amid the intertwined contexts of global climate change, the reshaping of the geopolitical landscape, and China’s economic transformation, complex issues in the resource sector have increasingly come to the fore, highlighting the urgent need for systematic research from the perspective of economic geography. This study constructs an interactive analysis framework of core–extended dimensions to systematically review the developments and trends in resource research from an economic geography perspective. This study establishes a two-layer theoretical analysis framework of core and extended dimensions. The core dimension includes four aspects: resource elements in regional economic development, resource flows in global trade networks, resource …

Statistical Triangulation: Weighing Multiple Statistical Tools In Macro-Level Housing Research, Julio Montanez, Amy Donley, Jacquelyn Reiss Sep 2026

Statistical Triangulation: Weighing Multiple Statistical Tools In Macro-Level Housing Research, Julio Montanez, Amy Donley, Jacquelyn Reiss

Journal of Applied Disciplines

Homelessness and housing research has a detection problem, in which understanding housing issues (e.g., substandard housing) is plagued by problems like undercounting and incomplete data. To partially compensate for these pitfalls, the current research engages in an exercise aiming to sharpen the statistical approach to homelessness and housing research. The macro-level sample included Florida’s 27 Continuums of Care geographies (composed of one or more Florida counties). The dependent variables were sheltered homelessness, energy-based substandard housing, and plumbing-based substandard housing. The independent variables were misdemeanor partner violence rates, felony partner violence rates, high school non-completion rates, urbanicity, and population burdens of …
