Prohibitive Factors Of Successful Completion In Rural Drug Courts: A Quantitative Study, Travis Zimmerman May 2025

Prohibitive Factors Of Successful Completion In Rural Drug Courts: A Quantitative Study, Travis Zimmerman

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Drug courts have been heralded as largely successful alternative sentencing programs for criminal drug offenders. While these programs demonstrate their ability to be effective with clients, little insight has been gained into the factors that impact client success and failure. The study utilized data from the Multi-site Adult Drug Court Evaluation (MADCE) to investigate the factors that lead to program failure for participants in drug court. Borrowing from the tenants of generalized strain theorists, the study batched together raw data into four “strain factors,” which were then analyzed to discern any corollary effect between the presence of these strains and …

Studies have found that burnout among correctional mental health providers is related to unique stressors that impact their physical, psychological, and emotional health, including the perceived and actual threat of violence. Using the transactional theory of stress and coping, the purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the influence of burnout and meaning-focused coping strategies on life satisfaction in correctional mental health providers. Online survey data from 102 master’s-holding correctional mental health professionals were recruited by SurveyMonkey who also administered the survey. Results from a standard multiple regression analysis suggested that meaning-focused coping strategies significantly and positively influenced life …

Educational Program Focused On Medication-Assisted Treatment To Improve Healthcare Providers’ Knowledge Of Managing Opioid Use Disorder In Primary Care Setting, Genean Marie Doyle

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project is a staff education project focused on enhancing healthcare providers’ knowledge of managing opioid use disorder (OUD) through medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in a primary care setting. The practice problem focuses on the lack of provider knowledge and persistent misconceptions about MAT. Primary care providers often feel ill-equipped to manage OUD, due to inadequate formal training and report insufficient understanding of MAT medications, regulatory requirements, and patient management strategies, contributing to underutilization of MAT, even in settings where patient need is high. Given the ongoing opioid epidemic and the important role that primary care …

Perceptions Of Connections Among Technology Instructors And Their Students Working Remotely, Angela Dawn Riddle

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

In 2020, educators were forced to learn new ways to instruct students due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to the transition from in-person to online courses, educators explored new ways of producing the learning experience. Due to the hands-on nature of industrial and engineering technology, these courses did not generally use online learning systems. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences of industrial and engineering technology instructors connecting with students remotely during this period. Garrison’s community of inquiry framework was used to ground the study and understand the connection that occurs in the learning environment …

Gender And Age Differences Among Juvenile Homicide Offenders, Amanda Nichole-Wells Jabaay

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The involvement of juveniles in homicide-related crimes has been a matter of growing public concern in the United States. Although prior research suggests that boys and girls who kill vary in important ways, there is limited research that has examined gender and age differences among juvenile homicide offender (JHO) characteristics and crime-related variables on a national level, with only eight previous national studies to date. Guided by the social control theory, the purpose of this non-experimental quantitative study was to explore gender and age differences among JHOs and other crime-related variables on a current national level. Navigating The Labyrinth: Transition Planning Process For Reintegration Of Inmates With Chronic Illnesses And Disabilities, Courtney Ashley Dean

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Most offenders face challenges with successfully reintegrating, especially those living with chronic illness and/or disabilities. Transition interventions employed by mental health professionals are not universal and vary from facility to facility. While recidivism, community stigmatization, reoffending, and reconviction are explored in extant literature, little has been done to examine the difficulties faced by the professionals who work with this population as they get ready to plan for transitioning this disenfranchised group back into society. This study is an exploration of the role of professional counselors in facilitating successful transition planning for inmates living with chronic illnesses and/or disabilities. Guided by …

Microlearning As An Effective Training Method For Healthcare Employees To Improve Competencies And Organizational Success, Laqurandra Weeks

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Challenges in keeping healthcare employees motivated raise concerns to organizational leaders because of healthcare’s changing and complex environments. Healthcare leaders are concerned because, without the proper training, an employee’s level of competence may negatively affect the quality of care they provide and patient safety. There is a problem with recidivism in the North Carolina prison system and the United States. This study fills the gap in the literature by focusing on what life experiences contribute to behaviors in recently released offenders not to reoffend in North Carolina. Edmund Husserl's (1913) Transcendental Phenomenology used several angles of perception and a thematic analysis of the participant’s lived experiences. This study employed a purposive sampling method by targeting 17 participants who may have represented characteristics of the intended population. Researchers do not know what kept these released offenders from avoiding prison. This phenomenological design focused on the …

Gender Differences In Factors Influencing Problematic Sexuality: A Comparative Analysis Using The Midsa Assessment, Brandon Andrew Lozano

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Problematic sexuality among college students is a complex and understudied issue, particularly regarding gender-based differences in affective instability and sexual compulsivity. While prior research has focused mainly on male populations, limited evidence exists about how these factors manifest among female students or whether gender moderates these relationships. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study is to examine whether gender moderates the relationship between factors affecting sexual compulsivity as measured by the Multidimensional Inventory of Development, Sex, and Aggression (MIDSA). The MIDSA, originally developed for male sexual offenders, has since been administered to both male and female populations. Findings from hierarchical …
