A Systematic Approach For Controlling Tem Sample Thicknesses, Monte Kozell
A Systematic Approach For Controlling Tem Sample Thicknesses, Monte Kozell
Physics Faculty Publications and Presentations
Historically, TEM prep has been an artisan craft without a systematic workflow that ensures quantified control over TEM sample thickness. Over- and under-thinning is a significant problem in the TEM prep process. A direct measurement process was demonstrated to control the final thickness of the TEM lamella. Final lamella thickness was controlled by directly measuring lamella thickness in real time using a 10–15 kV SEM while performing secondary electron imaging at the mill position, allowing for (human-mediated) closed-loop processing. We demonstrated the utility of this technique by systematically thinning five TEM samples to discretely target thicknesses ranging from 100 nm …
Multi-Solution Ternary Grover’S Algorithm For Logic-Based Quantum Machine Learning With Pseudo-Kronecker Reed–Muller Form Minimization, Sophia Lee, Ali Al-Bayaty, Marek Perkowski
Multi-Solution Ternary Grover’S Algorithm For Logic-Based Quantum Machine Learning With Pseudo-Kronecker Reed–Muller Form Minimization, Sophia Lee, Ali Al-Bayaty, Marek Perkowski
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations
Optimization problems in machine-learning (ML) applications can be computationally challenging for classical methods, particularly when they involve large, unstructured search spaces. Quantum computing offers a promising approach to combinatorial optimization by utilizing quantum superposition and amplitude amplification. This paper presents a new methodology using logic-based quantum machine learning (QML) as a complete framework for employing a multi-solution ternary Grover’s algorithm to minimize incomplete binary functions represented by Pseudo-Kronecker Reed–Muller (PKRO) expansions, consistent with Occam’s razor principle. Unlike previous quantum approaches based on Kronecker Reed–Muller (KRO) or fixed-polarity Reed–Muller (FPRM) representations, our work introduces the first Grover-based optimization framework for PKRO …
Hardware-Enforced Raw Sensing Data Zeroization And Host-Verifiable Privacy Breakpoint, Hp Inc
Hardware-Enforced Raw Sensing Data Zeroization And Host-Verifiable Privacy Breakpoint, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Modern AI PCs increasingly rely on cameras and microphones to provide contextual intelligence such as presence detection, occupancy estimation, and environmental awareness. However, conventional sensing architectures often expose raw image and audio data to the host operating system, creating privacy and security risks. This article presents a hardware-enforced privacy breakpoint architecture that keeps raw sensing data within an edge sensing module. The module performs local feature extraction, generates de-identified structured outputs, and subsequently erases raw sensing buffers through a dedicated hardware zeroization mechanism. A hardware verification circuit confirms successful memory sanitization before a protected interface releases feature data to the …
Persistent Delegated Communication Brokering System And Method For Individuals With Intermittent Communication Access, Eric Zavesky
Persistent Delegated Communication Brokering System And Method For Individuals With Intermittent Communication Access, Eric Zavesky
Defensive Publications Series
A system and method for persistent delegated communication brokering on behalf of individuals with intermittent communication access is disclosed. The system captures a requester's outreach objectives during a brief communication session and structures them into a persistent obligation object that survives session termination, continuing to execute outreach, information gathering, and action coordination after the requester's communication channel has closed. The system resolves non-dialable contact references through multi-source discovery with contextual confidence scoring and a trust-tiered no-auto-contact gate. A multi-modal outreach agent conducts autonomous outreach with mandatory self-identification, optionally employing biometric cloning of the requester, and continuously classifies contacted-party responses into …
Adaptive Semantic Chunking With Header-Weighted Embeddings, Theo B. Aguilar, Dan Hu
Adaptive Semantic Chunking With Header-Weighted Embeddings, Theo B. Aguilar, Dan Hu
Defensive Publications Series
Methods related to retrieval-augmented generation are disclosed. A computer system can receive a requestor query. The computer system can identify one or more context data elements (comprising e.g., “chunks” of documents) that are relevant to the requestor query based on header-weighted embeddings. The computer system can generate a prompt by combining the one or more context data elements and the requestor query. The computer system can generate a requestor query response based on the prompt and cause the requestor query response to be provided to the requestor. The computer system can additionally collect various performance metrics, which can be used …
Predictive Workload Scheduling Using Multi-Domain Telemetry And Reliability Scoring, N/A
Predictive Workload Scheduling Using Multi-Domain Telemetry And Reliability Scoring, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
A system integrates out-of-band physical infrastructure telemetry into software-layer workload orchestration for predictive scheduling. A multi-domain telemetry aggregator ingests and normalizes data from disparate sources, including host hardware via baseboard management controllers, facility infrastructure sensors, and network switches. A predictive reliability engine processes this aggregated data using a machine learning or heuristic model to generate a quantitative reliability score for each compute node. The engine asynchronously updates these scores in a high-speed, in-memory cache to ensure low-latency access for the scheduler. Upon receiving a new workload request, a scheduler plugin queries the cache to filter out nodes with scores below …
Security Operations Decision Attribution And Reasoning Trace Evaluation Framework For Autonomous Security Triage And Investigation Agents, Vidya Gopalakrishnan, Benjamin Walter, Nicholas Smith, Ruowen Wang, Jeffrey Bickford
Security Operations Decision Attribution And Reasoning Trace Evaluation Framework For Autonomous Security Triage And Investigation Agents, Vidya Gopalakrishnan, Benjamin Walter, Nicholas Smith, Ruowen Wang, Jeffrey Bickford
Defensive Publications Series
This publication describes the Security Operations (SecOps) Decision Attribution and Reasoning Trace framework, an integrated ground-truth construction pipeline and evaluation harness for benchmarking autonomous security triage and investigation agents at enterprise scale. Evaluating security agents presents two fundamental challenges: first, historical human closure notes are inherently sparse, unstructured, and omit implicit investigative steps, making it difficult to systematically codify expert reasoning ground truth. Secondly, conventional verdict-based metrics fail to detect when an agent arrives at the correct conclusion through flawed logic, coincidental data lookups, or deficient reasoning paths. The SecOps Decision Attribution and Reasoning Trace framework aims to resolve both …

Hardware-Rooted Integrity Attestation For Ai Agents, Niranjan M M
Hardware-Rooted Integrity Attestation For Ai Agents, Niranjan M M
Defensive Publications Series
The proposal introduces a hardware-rooted integrity attestation framework for AI agents that enables a platform to verify that a live agent instance is genuine, untampered, and running in an approved execution state before it is trusted with sensitive actions. By measuring agent-specific artifacts such as binaries, models, plugins, policies, and runtime composition, and binding that measured state to a trusted platform identity and freshness evidence, the system enables real-time and continuous trust decisions for AI agents across physical and virtual environments. In some embodiments, the attestation pipeline is further strengthened using a hardware quantum entropy source to improve nonce generation, …
Semantic Evolution Of Biomedical Data Ecosystems Using Dependency Graphs, Soumendra Kumar Mishra
Semantic Evolution Of Biomedical Data Ecosystems Using Dependency Graphs, Soumendra Kumar Mishra
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure presents a framework for managing semantic evolution across biomedical data ecosystems using dependency graphs. Changes to terminologies, ontologies, information models, mappings, datasets, analytical features, and AI/ML assets are represented as typed semantic changes and propagated across their dependencies. The framework identifies affected artifacts, determines the semantic conditions that must be preserved, and selects the minimum set of transformations required to accommodate the change. Current and proposed semantic states are validated against consistent evaluation criteria to assess mapping consistency, feature compatibility, model dependencies, and traceability. When validation succeeds, the proposed state is released with supporting evidence. When validation does …

Printed pages can be linked to videos, explanations, translations, and interactive controls without adding a visible code or marker to the page. The system described here identifies a page from its own words and layout, looks up digital attachment points stored as fractions of the page width and height, and projects those points into a live camera image. Because the attachment points are independent of pixels, they remain aligned when the page is printed at a different size, rotated, or viewed at an angle. A staged recognition process first uses recognized text, then page layout, and finally the overall visual …
Robust Nozzle Calibration For Homogeneous Line Printing, Hp Inc
Robust Nozzle Calibration For Homogeneous Line Printing, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Current ground-printing technology uses a printhead equipped with nozzles to deposit ink onto a surface. Several printhead parameters, such as pressure and firing frequency, can be configured, directly influencing the printing result and image quality. Printing line weight is one outcome of this configuration and is particularly relevant for ground-printing robots, whose primary purpose is the printing of construction layouts on the floor. However, line weight may vary depending on environmental conditions, printhead lifecycle and health, floor substrate characteristics, and other operational factors. These sources of variability can make it difficult to achieve a consistent printed output across different deployment …

Improving Web Accessibility Using On-Device Models, Gudipati Tarun
Defensive Publications Series
Modern web environments typically present navigation barriers for assistive technologies when web content lacks explicit programmatic semantics. A system can utilize an intermediating browser layer configured to execute a multimodal edge machine learning model entirely on a device of a user. The system may scan Document Object Model (DOM) structures to extract layout contexts and generate synthesized structural attributes. The generated attributes can be dynamically injected into an accessibility tree of a browser. Such an approach may enable real-time local remediation of interactive elements, embedded frames, tabular data, and visual media without communicating information to a remote server, thereby preserving …
