Staff Education To Address Medication Nonadherence Among Patients With Mental Health Challenges, Almena Ilis Huggins
Staff Education To Address Medication Nonadherence Among Patients With Mental Health Challenges, Almena Ilis Huggins
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Patients’ non-adherence to prescribed medication regimens remains a significant challenge in healthcare. Patients often misuse or skip their medications, which undermines treatment outcomes. This was evident at a mental health medical practice located in a suburban area of the southeastern coast. To address this problem, I developed, implemented, and evaluated a staff education program on evidence-based strategies to improve medication adherence among individuals with mental illness. The practice question focused on whether staff knowledge increased following participation in the education program. Four nursing staff participated in the 2-hour education program. Pre- and posttest questionnaires consisted of 15 multiple-choice questions. The …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem addressed in this basic qualitative study was that although some K–12 teachers have access to virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies, these tools are not widely accepted or adopted for classroom instruction. Guided by the technology acceptance model, the purpose of the study was to explore K–12 teachers’ perspectives on their willingness to incorporate VR/AR, the perceived usefulness and ease of use of these technologies, and the challenges they encounter or anticipate during the adoption process. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 10 K-12 teachers from public, charter, and private schools in the United States who had …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
For this doctoral project, I implemented a structured staff education intervention at an outpatient psychiatric clinic that required a practice change to address medication nonadherence among patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. The practice-focused question was: For staff in an outpatient psychiatric setting, will structured education on the use of the teach-back method improve staff knowledge toward the ultimate goal of improving medication adherence? The goal of this project was to conduct a rigorous education program using the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation model to bridge the communication gap between staff and patients. Staff knowledge was evaluated via a pre-/posttest design …

Identifying Symbolic Modeling Of Grooming Precursors In Social Media, Heath Landress
Identifying Symbolic Modeling Of Grooming Precursors In Social Media, Heath Landress
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Short-form video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels increasingly circulate dating and lifestyle advice that may normalize coercive relational scripts. A key challenge for preventing technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation is that early grooming precursors can be communicated through audiovisual design choices, such as tone, pacing, setting, and editing, that make manipulative narratives appear benign. The purpose of this qualitative multimedia content analysis was to identify recurring observable patterns that provide a form of symbolic modeling, through which relational and boundary-shaping cues associated with early-stage sexualized grooming are framed as ordinary dating or lifestyle advice in public TikTok and Instagram …

Effectiveness And Ethics Of Biometrics In Homeland Security, Aaron Akintayo Akindiya
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Homeland security agencies increasingly deploy biometric technologies, including facial recognition and fingerprint scanning, to enhance identity verification and threat detection at airports and borders. However, these technologies raise ethical concerns regarding privacy, algorithmic bias, data protection, and civil liberties. Limited research captures the perspectives of frontline professionals who implement these systems. This study explored how homeland security professionals perceive the balance between effectiveness and ethics. Guided by the technological determinism theory, semistructured interviews were conducted with 13 professionals from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Transportation Security Administration, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Thematic analysis revealed four themes: effectiveness in enhancing …

A Program Proposal For A Leadership-Driven, Evidence-Based, Intentional Rounding Playbook, Jacqueline Butler Brown
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Patient experience is a key indicator of healthcare quality. In an acute care hospital in Northeast Georgia, intentional rounding is an established practice. Inconsistent communication, variable leadership engagement, and limited accountability are practice gaps that have reduced its effectiveness in improving patient experience outcomes. A comprehensive literature review using PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, and the Cochrane Library yielded 15 peer-reviewed studies that consistently support intentional rounding as an evidence-based strategy for improving patient satisfaction. As the team leader for this Executive Leadership System Improvement Project, I proposed the development of an Evidence-Based, Leader-Driven Intentional Rounding Program Playbook to standardize enhanced rounding …

African American Women Counselors’ Lived Experiences Of Burnout Due To Microaggressions, Anquitra Walton
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Within the counseling profession, African American women navigate unique challenges in the workplace, often experiencing microaggressions that contribute to stress, self-doubt, and emotional exhaustion. While systemic racial issues drive workplace microaggressions, counselor educators and supervisors remain ill-equipped to support African American women through the resulting burnout. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the lived experiences of African American women counselors to understand how microaggressions can lead to burnout and affect their psychological well-being. Guided by a transcendental-phenomenological qualitative framework, semi-structured interviews were conducted to capture participants’ experiences, exploring the lived experiences of African American women counselors who …
