UNIVERSITY, Miss.-- State health officials confirmed one case of meningococcal meningitis in a University of Mississippi student Wednesday. Grant H. Brashier, a 20-year-old junior from Sebastapol, sought treatment at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford early in the day and was transferred later to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, where he was reported in serious condition by early evening.

University of Mississippi Chancellor Robert Khayat, left, joined country music star Marty Stuart, right, Wednesday night on the stage of the new Gertrude C. Ford Performing Arts Center, a 1,200-seat state-of-the-art theater on the UM-Oxford campus. Stuart and his band conducted a free concert for the university community and construction workers who helped build the facility. Khayat joined the group near the end of the show to play a guitar solo to the song "Folsom Prison Blues," which brought the audience of about 800 to its feet.
