Novel Roles Of The Blm Syndrome Dna Helicase In Genome Maintenance And Mitochondrial Regulation, Brian B. Rodemoyer
Novel Roles Of The Blm Syndrome Dna Helicase In Genome Maintenance And Mitochondrial Regulation, Brian B. Rodemoyer
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Bloom syndrome (BS) is an extremely rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by defects in the BLM gene. Patients with BS display a broad phenotypic spectrum including abnormally short stature, microcephaly, sun sensitivity, insulin resistance, perpetual oxidative stress, and a ~300-fold greater propensity for developing cancer than the general population. As such, BS patients typically do not live past their 20’s. The BLM gene encodes the BLM helicase, a member of the highly conserved RecQ family of 3’ to 5’ DNA helicases. Most of our cellular understanding of BLM is through its role in DNA damage repair through the homologous …
Development Of Antimicrobial Guanidinylate Polycarbonates, Menglin Xue
Development Of Antimicrobial Guanidinylate Polycarbonates, Menglin Xue
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified the emergence of antibiotic resistance as one of the top 10 threats to public health. This is exemplified by serious threats such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VREF), and the urgent threat posed by Clostridioides difficile to human health. As part of a multifaceted combat strategy against these pathogenic bacteria, host-defense peptide (HDP)-mimicking polymers have proven to be resourceful and promising. However, a vast majority of antibiotic polymer applications were limited to topical applications due to their potential systematic toxicity. Herein, we report the design and synthesis of a …
Zinc-Mediated Reductive Acylation And Silylation Of Various P-Quinone Derivatives, Katrinah I. Tirado
Zinc-Mediated Reductive Acylation And Silylation Of Various P-Quinone Derivatives, Katrinah I. Tirado
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Quinones are compounds containing cyclohexadiene diones and can be found in a variety of biological systems. Quinones participate in redox cycling to initiate the formation of free radicals which contributed to their overall biological activity. When quinones are reduced by either biological or chemical reductants, they can become unstable and undergo autoxidation back to their quinoidal form. One way to avoid autoxidation is the use of protected hydroquinones. Many protected hydroquinones in literature have been shown to be efficient in drug delivery as probes or molecular containers or they can act like prodrugs to be released into active forms to …
Withaferin A And Immune Checkpoint Blocker Therapy For The Treatment Of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, Roukiah Khalil
Withaferin A And Immune Checkpoint Blocker Therapy For The Treatment Of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, Roukiah Khalil
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Lung cancer is the first cause of cancer-related deaths in both men and women with an overall five-year survival rate of 28%. Although immune checkpoint blockers (ICBs) are currently FDA-approved for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), only 17-20% of patients achieve durable responses by the induction of immunologic memory. The lack of response in most patients can be attributed to the tumor-intrinsic or tumor-extrinsic immune resistance mechanisms. A biomarker of importance is the Programmed Death Ligand-1 (PD-L1), as higher PD-L1 expression is usually associated with a better response to ICBs. Although studies have attempted to combine ICBs …
Examining Patient Satisfaction And Treatment Effectiveness For Hispanic Adolescents Receiving Intensive Mental Health Services For Depression, Myesha M. Morgan
Examining Patient Satisfaction And Treatment Effectiveness For Hispanic Adolescents Receiving Intensive Mental Health Services For Depression, Myesha M. Morgan
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Behavioral Activation (BA) is a treatment approach that has demonstrated promising outcomes for the adolescent population (Martin & Oliver, 2019). However, more studies are needed to examine its effectiveness with Hispanic adolescents. The prevalence and severity of depressive symptoms tend to be higher among Hispanic adolescents in comparison to their non-Hispanic White peers (Pratt & Brody, 2014). In addition, depressive symptoms are associated with poor social, academic, and later health outcomes (Naicker et al., 2013; Owens, Stevenson, Hadwin, 2012). Given the lack of prior investigations on the effectiveness of BA for Hispanic adolescents, this study aimed to fill a gap …
A Culturally Responsive And Sustaining Pre-School: Collaborative Approaches To Curriculum In An Underserved Florida Community, Dana R. Roberts
A Culturally Responsive And Sustaining Pre-School: Collaborative Approaches To Curriculum In An Underserved Florida Community, Dana R. Roberts
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The early childhood education and childcare (ECE&C) sector in America “is a textbook example of a broken market” (Yellen, 2021) that operates as a “non-system” (Berlin, 2021). This manifests itself through the low-quality of its teaching cadre (Cassidy et al., 2019). This failure hits disadvantage families hardest (Chafouleas et al., 2016) - a reality that is particularly apparent in St. Petersburg, Florida’s Midtown neighborhoods where one out of every two children attending ECE programs are not meeting State school readiness standards (Florida OEL, 2020). In this study, I propose a culturally-responsive (Gay, 2018), culturally sustaining (Ladson-Billings, 2021c), and equity-based continuous …
Applied Analysis For Learning Architectures, Himanshu Singh
Applied Analysis For Learning Architectures, Himanshu Singh
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Modern data science problems revolves around the Koopman operator Cφ (or Composition operator) approach, which provides the best-fit linear approximator to the dynamical system by which the dynamics can be advanced under the discretization. The solution provided by Koopman in the data driven methods is in the sense of strong operator topology, which is nothing better then the point-wise convergence of data (snapshots) in the underlying Hilbert space. Chapter 2 provides the details about the aforementioned issues with essential counter-examples. Thereafter, provable convergence guarantee phenomena is demonstrated by the Liouville weighted composition operators Af,φ over the Fock space by providing …

From Other And From World: Expanding The Current Model Of Existential Isolation, Roger Young Jr.
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Extant research investigating the nature of existential isolation (EI) has focused primarily on the experience of the gap between one’s mind and the minds of others (self-other EI). The general purpose of the current research was to begin exploring the experience of the gap between one’s mind and the world (self-world EI). This purpose was carried out across three studies. A pilot study confirms that self-world EI is a relatively common experience that usually involves meaning violation or dissociation, and results in psychological discomfort and self-doubt. Study 1 found that self-world existential isolation produces more “EI affect” (e.g., nervous, afraid, …

Exploring Novel Two Dimensional Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors And Heterostructures For Spintronics Applications, Thi Hai Yen Pham
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) semiconductors hold enormous potential for modern optoelectronic devices, magnetic sensing, and quantum communications. Long-range ferromagnetism can be induced in TMD monolayers by introducing a small amount of magnetic dopants to form diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs), making them promising candidates for applications in ultralow-power and ultracompact spintronic nanodevices. This dissertation research aims to address two contemporary challenges in the fields of nano-magnetism and spintronics: controllability of magnetic dopants in TMD monolayers in the form of MX2 (M = W, Mo; X = S, Se) and understanding the fundamental physical mechanisms that give rise to magnetism …
Continuous Time Dynamic Mode Decomposition In The Presence Of Partial Knowledge And Streaming Data, Efrain H. Gonzalez
Continuous Time Dynamic Mode Decomposition In The Presence Of Partial Knowledge And Streaming Data, Efrain H. Gonzalez
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) is a physically interpretable data driven technique for modeling dynamical systems. The DMD method uses time series data where each data point is referred to as a snapshot and represents the value of the state at a particular moment in time. The important patterns found in the data are extracted and then used to create a model for the system. Once the important pieces have been obtained reduced order modeling can be used to reduce the complexity of the model.
But, DMD has evolved since its inception. After its association with the Koopman operator, DMD has …

Multiagent systems control designs offer numerous advantages to increasingly complex civilian, military, and scientific tasks ranging from intelligent satellite swarm controls or autonomous traffic controls to remote triage and repair or remote wildlife observation, where the performance of a single agent is insufficient to execute the task at hand. Traditional methods in multiagent systems controls, however, have been infeasible for use in scalable, large-group formation controls.
With this in mind, the contribution of this dissertation is to bridge the gap in knowledge through both theoretical and experimental validation of multiagent systems control architectures. It addresses the challenges presented by unreliable, …
Novel Genetic Interactions Of The Sgs1 Helicase In The Maintenance Of Genome Integrity, Sonia Vidushi Gupta
Novel Genetic Interactions Of The Sgs1 Helicase In The Maintenance Of Genome Integrity, Sonia Vidushi Gupta
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Mutagenesis and genome instability are characteristics of cancer cells. People afflictedwith Bloom’s syndrome due to mutations in the BLM gene suffer from reduced life expectancy, accelerated aging, sensitivity to sun exposure, immune system abnormalities and increased risk of cancer. The predisposition to cancer is typically due to abnormal DNA repair that results in chromosome breakage and rearrangements. The homologous recombination factor Sgs1, which is a RecQ-like helicase and an ortholog of the human BLM helicase, functions primarily in DNA repair, but has also been implicated in other cellular functions like replication. Several functions of BLM such as its involvement in …
