Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A trivalent Escherichia coli vaccine (TECA) was prepared from serotypes O1, O2 and O78 and one series of TECA was combined with an inactivated Newcastle Disease vaccine. TECA and combined vaccine were experimentally investigated for immunogenic effects in pullets and hens. This study was carried out at two stages consisting of rearing and laying periods: (1) A number of fourty chicks aged 15 days were subcutaneously vaccinated with 0.2 ml TECA . A similar group served as non-vaccinated controls. Half of the vaccinated group were revaccinated with 0.5 ml TECA at 71 days of age. The vaccinated and nonvaccinated pullets …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In the present study, differences occurring in the uropygial glands of roosters fed with a diet containing red hot pepper from 1-day old until 5-months old, were investigated in their histological and morphometrical aspects. It was determined in the experimental group that the lipid content of cells in the sebaceous zone of the uropygial gland was more than that of the controls, and the thicknesses of the tubulus walls and the length of the tubulus increased depending on both age and the effect of red hot pepper. It was observed that in the cells of the glycogen zone; while glycogen …

Investigation Of The Live Weight, Body Measurements And Fiber Diameter Of The Deutsches Merinofleischschaf And Karacabey Merino Sheep Using Cluster Analysis, İsmai̇l Safa Gürcan, Hali̇l Akçapinar

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

As regards fiber diameter quality and yields, Turkish Merinos have proven successful. They have better fertility and meat yields than native species bred in Turkey. It is of significance to know the similarity degree between Turkish Merinos and Deutsches Merinofleischschaf. Various methods of statistical analysis may be employed to determine the similarity degree between related species. One of the methods to be employed is cluster analysis. In this study, the live weight, body measurements and fiber diameter of these two genotypes were determined by cluster analysis. The hierarchical clustering and SLINK techniques and Euclidean distance method were used for clustering. …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Bacillus subtilis RSKK246 was found to produce approximately a 65-kDa \alpha-amylase enzyme. A gene was isolated encoding \alpha-amylase activity that corresponded to this size and was inserted into pUC18 plasmid which was transferred to Escherichia coli. An approximately 1.7kbp fragment, which contains a whole \alpha-amylase gene, was excised and inserted into pUB110 and then transferred into the different B. subtilis strains including RSKK246, RSKK243, RSKK244, YB886 and ORBAM. The a-amylase gene was cloned into the plasmids and expressed with its own promoter, and this promoter sequence seemed to function in the E. coli and in all B. subtilis strains. Specific …
