Collector-Depressant Equilibria For The Flotation System Potassium Ethyl Xanthate-Potassium Cyanide-Molybdenite, Connell Bolton Roberts

This dissertation involves a study of the collector-depressant equilibria of the flotation system potassium ethyl xanthate-potassium cyanide-molybdenite, based upon mineral-air bubble contact measurements made by a modified captive bubble technique. The Cook theory of single site free acid adsorption is used to interpret the data. The standard free energies of adsorption of ethyl xanthic acid and hydrocyanic acid on molybdenite are calculated.

A Preliminary Study Of The Vegetation In An Exclosure In The Chaparral Of The Wasatch Mountains, Utah, Verl Phillips Allman
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the ecological factors existing within the chaparral community. The present status of the vegetation in a one-acre exclosure was analyzed and recorded so that subsequent improvement or eterioration might be noted. A brief history of the area, the weather, and the geology are presented. Many other aspects of the problems enumerated in the introduction need to be studied. This study provides a foundation for a more detailed study of the vegetation which may be undertaken at a future date.

To an entomologist, the Orthoptera1 is in a state of confusion with respect to the available literature. Work has been done, and is now being done on the orthopteran fauna, but manuals tor identification of most species are not available for all sections or the country. Exclusive of a few lim-ited groups, Utah is among the areas that has no complete keys for taxonomic workers. This dissertation presents the results of research on the flotation system potassium n-amyl xanthate - sodium sulfide - molybdenite. The purposes of the research were (1) to determine the theoretical collector-depressant equilibria conditions of this system necessary for the flotation or depression of molybdenite, (2) to ascertain the mechanism of adsorption or the collector potassium n-amyl xanthate and the depressant sodium sulfide on molybdenite, and (3) to calculate the standard free energy of adsorption on molybdenite of the collector and depressant in this system. The present investigation was also made with the object of preparing the vinylquinoxalines and studying their 1,4- addition reactions. The attempts to prepare vinylquinoxalines were unsuccessful. However, sodium acetylide reacted with 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline to give a new compound which (from its analysis and properties) appears to be 2,3-bis(1-hydroxyethyl) quinoxaline . This new compound should be investigated further , as it may prove to be an intermediate in the preparation of vinylquinoxalines. The preparation of 2-methylquinoxaline has become very simple by the use of the method of Jones, Kornfeld and McLaughlin^5, which consists of condensing o-phenylenediamine with pyruvic aldehyde. The Latter-day Saints look forward to an era of righteous peace under a world government having its central seats of authority in the City of Zion which is to be built upon the American continent and in Jerusalem upon the eastern hemisphere. The purpose of this thesis is to present a general history of Utah State Prison in order that a record of that institution may be preserved. This phase of Utah history has long been neglected. It is hoped that a contribution has also been made to a better understanding of Utah's penal system.
The present penal system in use in the state of Utah had its beginning with the early Mormon settlements in Salt Lake Valley in 1847. The first laws and judicial bodies of the Mormons were very closely tied to their religious beliefs. The handling of criminals was …
