Previous work done at the Brigham Young University by Andelin^1, Roberts^2, and Olsen^3, has established the mechanism by which xanthate collectors are adsorbed on molybdenite ores to produce the hydrophobic surfaces necessary for flotation. This thesis is an attempt to better understand the mechanism by which the silicate minerals, which are found in conjunction with the ores, become hydrophyllic and as a result are not floated when in contact with air bubbles. It has been previously established that silicate minerals do adsorb cations on their surfaces^4. The present study has been undertaken to more fully understand the mechanism by which …

The Succession Of Vegetation On A Southern Utah Sand Dune, Elias S. Castle

The sand dunes lying ten miles northwest of Kanab in Kane County, Utah, support a sparse plant cover with four species dominating the vegetation: Psoralea stenostachys, Sophora stenophylla, Oryzopsis hymenoides, and Wyethia scabra var. attenuata. Of these Psoralea and Wyethia are endemic to the dunes or to a limited area which includes the dunes. The pineer species gain a start in the valleys between dunes and occupy the area only until sand covers them or until sand is blown away from their roots. Stabilization of the soils is not permanently in the interdune valleys and the dunes continue to wander. …

In writing this thesis, two basic problems have been confronted by the author. First, there is the problem of its potential readership. If it were to be assumed that potential readers would be men who are experts in accounting and in insurance, much of the basic material relating to such concepts as generally accepted auditing standards", the purpose and content of audit programs, etc. could be eliminated. The purpose of this paper is to critically study and analyze all species belonging to the genus Pantosteus and to determine tbe validity of the characteristics that were used to separate the genus Notolepidomyzon from the genus Pantoateus. Special reference was made to the morphology of the fontanelle and the weberian ossicles. In order to more thoroughly comprehend the reasons for Cope describing Pantosteus as a new genus and Fowler describing Notolepidomyzon as a new sub-genus and then Snyder elevating it to the status of a genus as complete a historical sketch as possible was made using all literature known …
