A morphological and histochemical study of the epithelium of the small intestine of the developing rat was performed using the following techniques: (1) hematoxylin and eosin; (2) periodic acid-Schiff; (3) Alcian blue; (4) alkaline phosphates; (5) acid phosphates; (6) non-specif esterace; and (7) leucine aminopeptidase. In addition to those listed above, other reactions were performed including: (1) dihydroxy-dinaphthyl-disulphide; (2) alloxan-Schiff; (3) nile blue sulfate; (4) Ziehl-Neelsen method for acid fastness; (5) Feulgen; and (6) succinic dehydrogenace. To provide a means of demonstrating whether swallowed amniotic fluid is absorbed by the fetal intestine, a colloidal iron preparation was injected into the …

The "History of the Danish Mission, 1850-1964," gives a detailed account of the Mormon "beginnings" in Denmark and attempts to trace the development of a system of proselyting and its effect upon the lives of both missionaries and converts of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. No attempt has been made in this study to record chronological detail to any extensive degree. Rather, emphasis has been placed on "beginnings" and major historical developments.

Since this writer has been confused by what seems to her to be radically different attitudes toward marriage and divorce in her own home town (Las Vegas, Nevada) and in Utah communities where she has been residing for the past five years, the social adjustment of female divorcees in these two locations was studied. The purpose was to begin to build knowledge about postdivorce adjustment, and it is hoped that future students of the family will be inspired to further investigate postdivorce problems.

Surficial Geology Of The Southern Half Of Griggs County, North Dakota, James C. Merritt

The southern half of Griggs County, in east-central North Dakota, lies entirely within the Young Drift section of the Central Lowlands physiographic province and is characterized by its undulating surface and nonintegrated drainage. The Kensel, Cooperstown, and Luverne phase of a Late Wisconsinan glaciation are largely responsible for the present appearance of the surface. The tills deposited during glacial stillstands cannot yet be differentiated by texture or X-ray diffreaction analyses, but the average shale pebble content of Kensel till is 16% higher than Cooperstown till.

The purpose of this study was to trace the historical development of the religious education program of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1860 to its present organization as the Department of Religious Education; to summarize the church's philosophy of education; and to determine the present status of the Department of Religious Education of the Reorganized Church.

The agricultural village was the basis of the original economy of Utah established by the Mormon settlers, but it has since been supplanted in importance by the industrial and commercial activities of the large centers of the Wasatch Front counties of Salt Lake, Weber, and Utah. This study was conducted in an attempt to determine the future of those communities removed from industrialized northern Utah. The village of Meadow, Millard County, was chosen as an example and it was subjected to a detailed geographic analysis. From this analysis conclusions have been drawn regarding its future.

A Collection And Analysis Of Folk Songs From Wales, Sanpete County, Utah, Leslie E. Rees

The purpose of this study was to collect and record folk songs known to some of the older inhabitants of Wales, Utah. An analysis was made of thirty of the forty-six songs for the purpose of attaining a knowledge of their characteristics such as form, rhythm, melody, tempo, tonality, melodic interval range, phrase and period length, theme repetition, texture, and ornamentation. Observations were also made with reference to the textual influence on the overall musical effect.

Summer Soil And Air Temperatures In Four Plant Communities, Paul W. Conrad

Temperature, one of the most influential factors controlling the growth and distribution of plants, was measured during a three month summer period within several stands of vegetation. The stands represented four distinct plant communities: sagebrush-grass, mountain brush, aspen, and conifer. Measurements were obtained by a sucrose inversion method which gave exponential average or effective mean temperature (eT) values. Registerants, small glass vials filled with a sucrose-buffer solution, were placed in the air 10 decimeters above the ground level and in the soil 1, 5, and 10 decimeters below the ground level. The object of this investigation was to determine the effect of acceleration on the drag of spheres as it differs from the steady state case. Steady state drag applies to the force acting on a single sphere moving at constant velocity through an infinite, continuous, incompressible, turbulence free fluid. Extensive experimentation has quite thoroughly documented the steady state drag characteristics of spheres. A dimensionless parameter associated with the drag force is sometimes used to correlate drag characteristics.
