Basic to the development of featherbedding are the fear of displacement and resistance to the use of the machine. Featherbedding grew out of an environment of violence in which destruction of machinery was frequent and represents a more civilized (sic) manner by which workers can protect their employment opportunities. Since the plight of workers affected by technological change concerns many groups of workers in the economy, different attitudes toward displacement and technological change are examined in this study.

Lily Lake, a subalpine lake in the Wasatch National Forest Tl5, R9E, S31, of the Uinta Mountain Region, Utah, is located about one-half mile west of Trial Lake at an elevation of 10,000 feet. This Lake, which is one of the acidic, cold, lentic bogs characteristic of this area, has been selected for a taxonomic and seasonal distribution study of acquatic phycomycetes. This study is a beginning to our knowledge of the role of the fungi in the hydrobiology of Lily Lake and will supply the first information on record of the water molds of this area. Physiological Variations In The Uinta Ground Squirrel (Citellus Armatus) In Relation To Seasonal Activity And Altitude, Marden Reed Kohler

The purpose of this investigation was to study the weight changes of selected internal organs to determine possible physiological variation occurring at six different altitudes ranging from 5,800 to 8,500 feetand during the summer season. This report was limited to the study of changes in the adrenal glands, kidneys, testes, heart and intestines. Electrocardiogram, heart and respiration rates were investigated also. These changes were statistically analyzed to determine possible seasonal differences along with any significant changes occurring at different elevations. The results of the study should in part overcome the lack of current experimental data for Citellus armatus.

A Study Of The Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel (Citellus Lateralis) In A Sagebrush-Grass Community, Dennis E. Peterson

Golden-mantled ground squirrels (Citellus lateralis Say) typically inhabit coniferous forest regions, but they occasionally occur in desert shrub habitats. The principal purpose of this study was to observe activities of mantled squirrels in a sagebrush community, and to ascertain factors which contribute to their success in an unusually arid habitat. Squirrels of this community belong to the subspecies C. l. lateralis; however, intergradation between typical C. l. lateralis and C. l. castanurus is evident. This community is in the Wasatch Mountains at an elevation of 5,750 feet, and in the Upper Sonoran Zone. These three conditions were not previously recorded …

Utah Lake, located in Utah County, north-central Utah, is one of the most important natural fishing lakes in the state. The spawning ecology of the white bass (Roccus chrysops) was studied in Utah Lake between 1964 and 1966. Gill nets and seining were the primary means of sampling. The spawning location was sampled every other day throughout the spring and early summer of 1966. Three major winter schooling areas were found: Provo Bay - Creer Access south to the mouth of Spanish Fork River, Lincoln Beach, and off Ludlow Barn. There appears to be extensive winter feeding and movement among …

Observations of reproductive behavior, growth and development of the young, food habits, habitat preference, and daily and seasonal activity patterns of the Colorado chipmunk are presented for the first time. The breeding cycle is as follows: mating occurs in late February or early March; the young are born in early to mid-April and first appear above ground in May, but do not reach breeding age until the following spring. There is only one litter of young per year. The mean number per litter was 5.7 for three litters born in captivity. The sex ratio of the animals born in captivity …

Most guerilla-type fighting has been, is presently, and will most likely continue occurring in remote areas of the world. The terrain encountered may be tropical grasslands and canopy areas, or rugged mountains, inland waterways, swamps, mud flats and rice paddies. The Taxonomy And Ecology Of The Fleshy Fungus Flora Of The Snowbanks In The Mirror Lake Region Of The Uinta Mountains, Mary Virginia Charlton Dublin

The ecology and taxonomy of the snowbank fleshy fungi in the vicinity of Mirror Lake, Uinta Mountains, Utah were investigated during 1963, 1964, and 1965. A total of 59 speciaes, representing the Agaricales, Polyporales, Thelephorales, Gastromycestes, Myxomycetes, Dacrymycetales, and Ascomycetes, were found associated with the snowbanks. Four of these species (Geupiniopsis alpinus, Polyporus alboluteus, Polyporus leucospongia and Sterile myclium I) have presence percentages of 100% and three (Stereum Rugisporum, Dasyscypha arida and Herpotichia nigra) had presence percentages of 90%. The lignicolous fungi were found to be more frequent around the snowbanks than either the terrestrial or coprophilous fungi. No fleshy …

This thesis contains an analysis of the concept of Zion as reflected in the songs sung by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The following definitional areas within Zion concept are considered:
1. Zion: A personal spiritual condition.
2. Zion: A perfect society.
3. Zion: Various geographical locations.
4. Events included in the concept of Zion.

Each of the above areas is analyzed first, from a historical and doctrinal viewpoint and finally, as to how it is reflected in the songs of the Mormons.
