Lasing Conditions Of Elemental Sulfur In A Gas Discharge, David E. Egbert
Lasing Conditions Of Elemental Sulfur In A Gas Discharge, David E. Egbert
Theses and Dissertations
The partial pressures from heated sulfur crystals and helium, and sulfur and nitrogen required for ionic sulfur laser action in a gas discharge were determined. Previous work with sulfur lasers is reviewed and population inversion mechanisms are presented for the ionic sulfur laser lines. Possible excitation mechanisms are presented for both electron and ion or atomic collision excitation. Transition diagrams for all the known ionic sulfur laser transitions and an approximate potential energy curve for the diatomic sulfur molecule are presented. Laser action was achieved only when a spark gap pulser was used with a laser tube especially designed to …
The Effects Of Different Gases On Excystation Of Coccidian Oocysts, James B. Jensen
The Effects Of Different Gases On Excystation Of Coccidian Oocysts, James B. Jensen
Theses and Dissertations
Excystation of coccidian oocysts is a diphasic process where CO2 and suitable reducing agents cause changes in oocyst wall permeability (phase I) allowing the entrance of trypsin and bile which activate the sporozoites (phase II). This project was an indirect study of the mechanism of CO2 action by the substitution of NO, NO2, N2O, H2S, SO2 , CH4, NH3 and 8M urea in place of CO2. Changes in oocyst wall permeability of Eimeria stiedae, E. bovis and E. tenella were determined by incubation with the reagents and cysteine HCl followed by treatment with trypsin and bile to initiate activation of …

Development And Prediction Of I-E Orientation And Its Relationship With Some Personality Correlates, Barry L. Johnson
Development And Prediction Of I-E Orientation And Its Relationship With Some Personality Correlates, Barry L. Johnson
Theses and Dissertations
Locus of control is a personality dimension involving an individual's perceived control over events occurring in his life. An internal Cl) person is one who feels that he controls his reinforcement contingencies. The external (E) person feels that his rewards or reinforcements occur on a chance basis, are due to fate or luck, or controlled by something or someone else.
Though the body of information surrounding the I-E construct is growing, there are still many questions to be answered and areas to be explored. One of the goals of this investigation was to examine some underlying factors in the development …
A Study Of The Relative Reactivity Of Carbon From Coal Using The Bouduard Reaction, Jay Robert Kauphusman
A Study Of The Relative Reactivity Of Carbon From Coal Using The Bouduard Reaction, Jay Robert Kauphusman
Theses and Dissertations
Chars made from two lignites, a subbituminous coal and a bituminous' coal, were reacted, with CO2 over a range of temperatures and space times to determine the effect of coal rank on the conversion of CO2 to CO by the Bouduard reaction. The rank of the coals tested was found to have a definite effect on the conversion of CO2 with the degree of conversion decreasing with increasing rank. Conversion increased with increasing temperature and contact time. Calculation of the heats of formation of the carbon constituents of these coals from the pseudo equilibrium data indicate that the carbon in …

An Examination Of The Lubell Thesis: A Statistical And History Study Of The Mcintosh County, North Dakota, 1936-1940, Thomas J. Cummings
Theses and Dissertations
North Dakota is often referred to as the leading isolationist state in the Union. The vociferous opposition expressed by the state’s people to World Wars I and II is cited as proof for this label. One explanation for the state's behavior, advanced by Samuel Lubell, stresses ethnic origin. According to this view, the German-Russian population of the state is responsible for making North Dakota an isolationist stronghold. This study of one German-Russian county, McIntosh county, is an attempt to examine the validity of Lubell's ethnic explanation. In particular, this study focuses on the reasons for the rejection of Franklin Roosevelt …
