A Comparison Of Film And Written Presentations In The Pretraining For Group Experiences., Ellen Joy Muller Jan 1980

A Comparison Of Film And Written Presentations In The Pretraining For Group Experiences., Ellen Joy Muller

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine four different forms of pregroup training to determine their comparative effectiveness. Four randomly-assigned training groups and a control group were used. The four training methods were film and written material combined, film only, written material only and inappropriate written material. The criterion measures were selected to survey personality factors, behavioral preferences, and general knowledge. Personality factors were assessed with the Personality Orientation Inventory (POI). The Reaction to Group Situation Test (RGST) was used to survey behavioral tendencies and the Pre-Group Experience Checklist (PGEC) was used to evaluate the level of appropriate group …

Colville Indian Language Dictionary, James Benjamin Somday

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to attempt to begin the process of preservation of the languages spoken on and near the Colville Indian Reservation in Washington State. It was further hoped to stimulate others, native speakers especially, to record, either on tape or in writing, those aspects of the language still in their memories. That is, the Colville words are not alphabetized in Colville (nor …

Metal Atom Chemistry: Synthesis, Isolation And Reactions Of Coordinatively Unsaturated Organometallic Complexes; Organometallic Complexes Containing Both Sigma And Pi Bonds, Bruce Beardsley Anderson Jan 1980

Metal Atom Chemistry: Synthesis, Isolation And Reactions Of Coordinatively Unsaturated Organometallic Complexes; Organometallic Complexes Containing Both Sigma And Pi Bonds, Bruce Beardsley Anderson

Theses and Dissertations

The metal atom technique has been shown to be a very versitile synthetic tool. The synthesis of non-ligand stabilized organometallic intermediates can be greatly enhanced. The power of the technique is perhaps based in the ability to prepare organometallic species in a very simple state. "Coordinatively unsaturated" organometallic intermediates can be prepared at low temperatures under inert conditions. Interactions with ligands are greatly reduced so that the species can be more easily examined. Species of this type have been proposed as active intermediates in a variety of homogeneous catalysis reactions. The synthesis of these species not only lends insight into …

The Diffusion And Dispersion Of The Reorganized Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints: An Overview, Diane D. Peffers Jan 1980

The Diffusion And Dispersion Of The Reorganized Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints: An Overview, Diane D. Peffers

Theses and Dissertations

The diffusion patterns of cultural characteristics and ideas is an area of geographic research which has gained considerable attention in recent years. This thesis is a study of the diffusion of the Reorganized Church as its members and missionaries have spread worldwide from their origins in the American Mid-West.

The slow expansion of the RLDS faith has been studied in terms of its past and present geographic locations, its pattern of movement from one place to another and its difficulties in achieving a large, international membership.

Multi-Colored Maps From False Color Separations: Kirtland Examples (1800-1900), James D. Bryan Jan 1980

Multi-Colored Maps From False Color Separations: Kirtland Examples (1800-1900), James D. Bryan

Theses and Dissertations

Cartographers utilize primary and secondary colors in producing color maps. It is relatively easy to print the primary colors of magenta, cyan, and yellow on photo paper. It is considerably more difficult to print the secondary colors of red, blue, green, orange, purple, seagreen, and leafgreen consistently.

This thesis has solved the problem associated with producing photographic color for cartographic maps. A new system of developing color maps has been developed. This system has produced: (1) pure blacks, (2) suitable secondary colors, (3) pastel colors, and (4) mid-value and dark colors.

Genetic Heterogeneity In Complementation Groups Of Propionic Acidemia, Catherine Mckeon Jan 1980

Genetic Heterogeneity In Complementation Groups Of Propionic Acidemia, Catherine Mckeon

Theses and Dissertations

Propionic acidemia is an autosomal recessively inherited disorder of organic acid metabolism caused by deficient activity of propionyl CoA carboxylase. This enzyme is required for the catabolism of the odd-chain fatty acids, the side chain of cholesterol and the amino acids: isoleucine, methionine, and threonine. Although the clinical expression of this disorder is variable, affected children usually develop ketoacidosis and hyperammonemia which may progress to seizures, coma and possibly death. Some patients may exhibit vomiting, lethargy and hypotonia in the first few weeks of life whereas others may remain asymptomatic for months or even years.(1) The degree of residual enzyme …

Authigenic Kaolinite In The Bear Den Member (Paleocene) Of The Golden Valley Formation, In Southwestern North Dakota, Gordon H. Prichard Jan 1980

Authigenic Kaolinite In The Bear Den Member (Paleocene) Of The Golden Valley Formation, In Southwestern North Dakota, Gordon H. Prichard

Theses and Dissertations

The Golden Valley Formation of North Dakota crops out in isolated remnants over a large area of southwestern North Dakota. The formation has two members, the lower Bear Den Member, which is characterized by kaolin and bright colors and the upper Camels Butte Member, which is characterized by micaceous sand and clay.

Two different theories, either in place weathering or detrital deposition, have developed as to the origin of the kaolinite in the lower member. Early workers suggest that the kaolinite of the member is detrital in origin for the following reasons:

1. No unconformity is present at the top …

Hormone Action On Carbohydrate Metabolism In Rabbit Liver., Gerald Anthony Rufo Jr.

Theses and Dissertations

Excessively high or insufficient levels of glucose in the blood results in dysfunctioning of vital biological processes; therefore mammals possess mechanisms for maintaining blood glucose concentration within relatively narrow limits. Various hormones act to regulate blood glucose concentration.
