Carbon Monoxide Radical Formation As A Function Of Electron Transfer By The Surfaces Of Thermally Activated Calcium And Magnesium Oxides., Russell Macdonald Morris
Carbon Monoxide Radical Formation As A Function Of Electron Transfer By The Surfaces Of Thermally Activated Calcium And Magnesium Oxides., Russell Macdonald Morris
Theses and Dissertations
Electron spin resonance (esr) was used to study the radical anion species produced as a result of carbon monoxide adsorption onto separate samples of calcium and magnesium oxides. The oxide samples were thermally out gassed at temperatures of 400(DEGREES) to 1000(DEGREES)C prior to exposure to carbon monoxide. Also prior to carbon monoxide adsorption, an esr signal was not observed for either oxide. The adsorption of carbon monoxide was performed at room temperature. Immediately upon carbon monoxide exposure, the magnesium oxide sample turned light red and the calcium oxide sample turned yellow. Esr signals were also immediately observable in the case …
Ring Current Effects In Electron Donor Acceptor Complexes Of Biphenylene And Ferrocene., Donald Patrick Mccollor
Ring Current Effects In Electron Donor Acceptor Complexes Of Biphenylene And Ferrocene., Donald Patrick Mccollor
Theses and Dissertations
Electron donor acceptor complexes of the donors biphenylene (BP) and some ferrocenes have been studied by NMR spectroscopy to examine the effects of donor ring currents on acceptor chemical shifts.Equilibrium constants and the differences in chemical shifts between free and complexed acceptor ((DELTA)(,o) values) for the complexes of BP with the acceptors 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene (TNB), 1,4-dinitrobenzene (DNB), N-methylsuccinimide (NMS), tetrafluoro-1,4-benzoquinone (FAN), and 1,4-dicyano-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene (TFTN) have been obtained by ('1)H and ('19)F NMR spectroscopy. In addition, the crystal and molecular structures of the 1:1 complexes BP-DNB and BP-FAN have been determined by x-ray diffraction. The complexes crystallize in infinite stacks of alternating …
Long Ago And Far Away: Distancing In Young Children's Stories., Beth Colleen Anderson
Long Ago And Far Away: Distancing In Young Children's Stories., Beth Colleen Anderson
Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the concept of distancing within the oral stories of 36 children, ages three to five. Distancing was conceptualized, in part, as young children's increasing capacity with age to incorporate fantasy material exceeding the boundaries of their direct experience and to achieve self-other differentiation within the discourse form of stories. The study focused on three research questions: (1) What strategies do young children use to achieve distancing within their oral stories? (2) Do these strategies vary with age? (3) Is the ability to achieve distancing related to other measures of language fluency? The author created a distancing rating scale …
High Temperature Reactions Of Diphenyl Sulfide As A Model To Coal Processing., Buren Rick Lee Van Buren
High Temperature Reactions Of Diphenyl Sulfide As A Model To Coal Processing., Buren Rick Lee Van Buren
Theses and Dissertations
A small-scale 12-ml hydrogenation apparatus was designed and built. The objectives of the design were: (a) to minimize heat-up and cool-down times, (b) to minimize the time per reaction run, (c) to be able to utilize small samples, e.g., 0.5 g, for expensive compounds, (d) to be able to monitor both pressure and temperature during the course of the reaction and (e) to be able to achieve 500(DEGREES)C and 3000 psi. The short heat-up and cool-down times of the reactor enabled reliable kinetic studies to be done.High temperature desulfurization and reduction reactions of diphenyl sulfide and other aryl sulfur compounds …
Anticipating The Future: Minot State College In The Decade Of The 80'S., Ellen Jane Kegel
Anticipating The Future: Minot State College In The Decade Of The 80'S., Ellen Jane Kegel
Theses and Dissertations
This study concerns the efforts of Minot State College, one of North Dakota's state-supported institutions of higher education, to conduct long-range planning activities, to generate its institutional plan for the 80's, and to define its mission in response to a mandate from the state's Board of Higher Education. To facilitate these efforts the college employed the author as planning coordinator for the project from October 1979 through June 1980.One of the challenges of the study was to use well the planning model specified by the Board. A Futures Creating Paradigm: A Guide to Long-range Planning from the Future for the …
Sex Equity Efforts Related To Title Ix In Selected High Schools In North Dakota., Sharon Rae Ervin Johnson
Sex Equity Efforts Related To Title Ix In Selected High Schools In North Dakota., Sharon Rae Ervin Johnson
Theses and Dissertations
Four selected high schools in North Dakota were studied to determine what changes had occurred or were likely to occur related to Title IX and to examine the problems encountered in meeting the guidelines of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Two major sources of data were used--written information and on site personal interviews with school personnel. Four questions were answered. (1) What changes have occurred as a result of efforts to provide equal educational opportunities for males and females? (2) What problems have been encountered in making these changes? (3) What future changes are anticipated? (4) What types …
Relationships Between Sex-Role And Selected Self-Concept Dimensions For Male And Female College Students., Randolph Charles Moredock
Relationships Between Sex-Role And Selected Self-Concept Dimensions For Male And Female College Students., Randolph Charles Moredock
Theses and Dissertations
Problem. The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between sex-role and self-concept for males and females, and to translate the findings into statements about male and female self-concept patterns. The null hypotheses tested were: (1)No relationship exists between sex-role and self-concept for males. (2)No relationship exists between sex-role and self-concept for females. (3)When males and females are compared across sex, sex-role, and sex by sex-role, no differences in self-concept exist.Procedure. The subjects, 90 males and 126 females, were undergraduate volunteers at the University of North Dakota. Each subject completed the Tennessee Self Concept Scale (TSCS) and Bem …
Reductive Denitrogenation Mechanisms Of Aromatic Amines., Vijay Raju Srinivas
Reductive Denitrogenation Mechanisms Of Aromatic Amines., Vijay Raju Srinivas
Theses and Dissertations
High temperature-high pressure reactions were done with N,N-dimethylaniline and related compounds to study the cleavage of the aromatic and aliphatic C-N bonds, for denitrogenation under coal liquefaction conditions. Reactions were run in a pair of 250-ml Hastelloy 'C' autoclaves and in 12-ml stainless steel autoclaves designed in our laboratory. The range of temperatures studied was 425(DEGREES)C-450(DEGREES)C and that of pressure was 0-1500 psi (initial). The mechanism of the cleavage of both the aromatic C-N bond and the alkyl C-N bond have been postulated. The two sets of conditions studied were; (i) those which excluded any form of sulfur and (ii) those …

Mental Health Status Of Vietnamese Refugees In Utah County, Utah, David A. Acree
Mental Health Status Of Vietnamese Refugees In Utah County, Utah, David A. Acree
Theses and Dissertations
This study attempted to measure mental health status of Vietnamese refugees in Utah County, Utah. The test instrument used was the Cornell Medical Index (CMI). Two subproblems were considered: First, to see if refugee complaints on the CMI were predominantly physiological or psychological. Second, to see if there was a relationship between CMI scores and a related list of demographic variables.
Results showed the mean CMI score for the sample under study was well above the suggested score indicative of possible psychological dysfunction. For 80% of participants, psychological complaints were predominant over physical complaints. The only variables showing a relationship …
