Depositional Environments And Diagenesis, Interlake Formation (Silurian), Williston Basin, North Dakota, Charles L. Lobue
Theses and Dissertations
The Interlake Formation is a succession of Silurian carbonates of large areal extent found in the Williston Basin. The Interlake attains a maximum thickness of about 1,100 feet in western North Dakota and thins to an erosional edge in eastern North Dakota,
The main purpose of this study was to interpret the depositional and diagenetic history of the Interlake Formation. Approximately 2,400 feet of Interlake core and 300 thin sections were studied, The Interlake was then divided into twelve lithotypes representing deposition in low-energy sublittoral, high-energy sublittoral, littoral, and supralittoral epeiric sea environments. In addition, paleosols are present,

Translation Of The Tibia During Isometric Contraction Of The Quadriceps, Charles V. Connors
Translation Of The Tibia During Isometric Contraction Of The Quadriceps, Charles V. Connors
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine in normal knees, and in knees with anterior cruciate ligament absence, what effect maximal voluntary isometric contraction of the quadriceps has on translation of the tibia on the femur. Ten subjects with bilaterally normal knees, and nine subjects with one normal knee and the contralateral knee having an arthroscopic finding of absent anterior cruciate ligament were tested. Tibial translation was measured with a dial indicator at 15, 45 and 60 degrees of knee flexion. There was a measurable anterior translation of the tibia in all knees. An analysis of variance with post …

Phagocytic Response During Iron Deficiency., Kathleen Ann Murphy
Phagocytic Response During Iron Deficiency., Kathleen Ann Murphy
Theses and Dissertations
Severe iron depletion has been associated with an increased susceptibility to infectious diseases. The purpose of this study was to assess phagocyte function and resistance to infection with Staphylococcus aureus during not only severe, but also moderate and marginal states of iron depletion. An experimental animal model of iron deficiency was developed in BALB/c mice. The amount of dietary iron supplementation was varied to attain different levels of iron deficiency. Tissue iron stores (liver, spleen, granulocyte), hemoglobins, and hematocrits correlated directly to the level of dietary iron supplementation. Comparison of food consumption and body weights of iron-deficient and sufficient animals indicated …

Tetrahydrocannabinol Interactions With Phencyclidine And Methaqualone., Michael Warren Lame
Theses and Dissertations
To determine the effects of (DELTA)('9)-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on the pharmacokinetics and metabolism of phencyclidine (PCP) or methaqualone (MTQ), both in vivo and in vitro studies were conducted using Sprague Dawley rats. For the in vivo studies rats received THC (10 mg/kg, p.o.) 90 minutes prior to the administration of ('3)H-PCP(.)HCl (7.5 mg/kg, i.p.) or ('14)C-MTQ (25 mg/kg, i.p.). These doses were used throughout except for the following PCP studies; biliary excretion (3 mg/kg, i.p.) and urinary excretion of PCP metabolites (15 mg/kg, i.p.). Controls received sesame oil (2 ml/kg, p.o.), the vehicle for THC in test cases, 90 minutes prior …

Synthesis Gas Conversion With Zs M-5 Supported Ruthenium Catalysts, Robin Elizabeth Young Eaton
Synthesis Gas Conversion With Zs M-5 Supported Ruthenium Catalysts, Robin Elizabeth Young Eaton
Theses and Dissertations
Some bifunctional ZSM-5 supported ruthenium catalysts (Ru/ ZSM-5) were prepared by an extraction technique employing Ru 3(C0)12 • The weight percentage Ru ranged from approximately 1% to 8% Ru as determined by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. Characterization data employing Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy, X-ray Powder Diffractometry (XRPD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS/ESCA), Ion-Scattering Spectrometry (ISS) and Chemisorption were obtained for the catalysts. The data indicated the presence of highly dispersed Ruo2 particles of less than 60 A on the surface of the as-prepared (AP) catalysts. Calcination of the AP catalysts at 500°C for 24 h increased the particle size of …

Early Mormon Woodworking At Its Best: A Study Of The Craftsmanship In The First Temples Of Utah, Thomas Weston Welch
Theses and Dissertations
The original intent of this paper was to examine early mormon pioneer woodworking. Upon investigation, however, it was discovered that there is one type of early utah mormon woodworking about which very little has been written and which includes some of the best efforts of these early craftsmen. This woodworking is the interior work done in the construction of the early mormon temples. This paper will attempt to document the state of early pioneer craftsmanship and show examples of this work.

Scenic And Lighting Designs For Lanford Wilson's Fifth Of July, Rudolf Herman Roggenkamp
Theses and Dissertations
In the fall of 1981 I came to the point in my studies where it became necessary to choose a thesis project. The standard procedure in the Department of Theatre at Virginia Commonwealth University is to have design students do set designs for one of the mainstage productions as their thesis project.
At the time that the thesis proposal was due the 1981-1982 season had not been decided upon, so I submitted a proposal stating that I would design a "mainstage production for Theatre V.C.U." as my project and that the documentation of this project would be my thesis. I …
