Binary Programming Models Of Spatial Pattern Recognition: Applications In Remote Sensing Image Analysis, Thomas G. Reed Dec 1991

Binary Programming Models Of Spatial Pattern Recognition: Applications In Remote Sensing Image Analysis, Thomas G. Reed

Theses and Dissertations

The major purpose of this investigation was to implement subregion allocation objectives using a network model base on an existing subregion allocation binary programming model (Benabdallah and Wright (B&W), 1990), the ultimate goal being the application of subregion allocation concepts towards the spatial analysis of satellite imagery. The multi-objective aspects of subregion allocation can be accomplished via a network formulation, a formulation vastly simpler in complexity than the binary programming models previously used. Without a network programming package that could maintain integral flows, however, deriving the solution was a tiresome task for the user. Nonetheless, several new concepts and advantages …

The out-of-phase specimen showed a shorter fatigue life below the first …

Guanine Nucleotide-Utilizing Enzymes In The Matrix Of Mitochondria From Rabbit Heart And Liver: Nucleoside Diphosphate Kinase, Succinate Thiokinase, And Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase., Eddie F. Kadrmas Nov 1991

Guanine Nucleotide-Utilizing Enzymes In The Matrix Of Mitochondria From Rabbit Heart And Liver: Nucleoside Diphosphate Kinase, Succinate Thiokinase, And Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase., Eddie F. Kadrmas

Theses and Dissertations

Three guanine nucleotide-utilizing enzymes--nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK), succinate thiokinase (STK), and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK)--were studied in mitochondrial matrix preparations from rabbit heart and liver. Previous investigation by others has shown results consistent with the apparent absence of NDPK in mitochondrial matrix as well as with the existence of distinct ATP and GTP-utilizing succinate thiokinases in several species. Possible interrelationships between NDPK and STK in rabbit heart and between NDPK, STK, and PEPCK in rabbit liver were investigated.Indirect evidence for the existence of a NDPK activity in the matrix compartment of mitochondria from rabbit heart and liver was obtained via assay …

Steady-State Production And Quenching Of Br(2P½), Ralph F. Tate Nov 1991

Steady-State Production And Quenching Of Br(2P½), Ralph F. Tate

Theses and Dissertations

The spin orbit relaxation of atoms has been investigated in a steady state infrared fluorescence experiment. A CW argon ion laser operating at 488 nm was used to photodissociate gas-phase Br into equal quantities of Bromine and Bromine atoms. The resulting 2.7 µm emission was observed as a function of added quenching gas. A steady-state analysis was used to determine quenching rates for SF6, N2, O2, He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe, relative to quenching by the parent molecule. Limitations in the apparatus prevented determination of the quenching rate coefficient for Br2. …

Comparative Analysis Of Guidance Algorithms For The Hyper Velocity Missile And Afti/F-16, Edward G. Rice Nov 1991

Comparative Analysis Of Guidance Algorithms For The Hyper Velocity Missile And Afti/F-16, Edward G. Rice

Theses and Dissertations

This project has provided me with endless intrigue. In considering the problem of guiding a hyper-velocity missile from a moving platform to a moving target, a common perception said it was just another Kalman Filtration design challenge. I began with lofty intentions of running a full up extended Kalman filter simulation but I became enthralled with the limited work available on the physical limitations of basic guidance algorithms. This became the emphasis of this project. The best filter scheme cannot overcome a guidance algorithms physical limitation. Only with an understanding of these limitations can one effectively integrate a guidance scheme …

Patterns Of Undermining: American And British Novels Set In Coal-Mining Locales., Julie Ann Maristuen-Rodakowski Oct 1991

Patterns Of Undermining: American And British Novels Set In Coal-Mining Locales., Julie Ann Maristuen-Rodakowski

Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation focuses on twenty novels--ten by men and ten by women--set in coal-mining locales circa 1840 to 1940. It analyzes power relationships and structures of oppression that emerge through the fictional techniques of setting, character, and theme, positing that a paradigm shift is visible in some texts. Hegemonic power relationships and the accompanying oppression of the "less important" entity in male/female, management/labor configurations are evident in many of the novels, but some texts treat the power relationships differently. In these texts, the role of the women and the role of the laborers shift from that of a marginalized Other …

Reality Monitoring And Schizophrenia., Richard Gammon Whitten Oct 1991

Reality Monitoring And Schizophrenia., Richard Gammon Whitten

Theses and Dissertations

Reality monitoring is a postulated cognitive process by which memories for sensation-based or "real" events are differentiated from memories for thoughts or imagination-based events. Past research indicates that when there is uncertainty about the source of memories (whether sensation or imagination), normal male adults are biased and tend to report an imaginal origin ("I must have thought it."). In contrast, male subjects diagnosed with schizophrenia who also exhibit psychotic speech or thought disorder, reportedly are biased toward reporting a sensation-based origin for uncertain memories ("I must have said it."). In order to further explore the relationship between different kinds of …
