Implementing Dataops: A Scalable Framework For Modern Data Warehousing, Dmytro Valiaiev
Implementing Dataops: A Scalable Framework For Modern Data Warehousing, Dmytro Valiaiev
Theses and Dissertations
DataOps has been coined as a novel term that emerged as a synthesis of data management practices with software engineering concepts, such as DevOps and Agile, with the goal of improving data quality and governance in enterprises. The proliferation of scratch table use and transformation tools, such as dbt, has led to an exponential increase in the number of data models, which complicates standardization efforts and increases maintenance overhead. Although the market is saturated with various flavors of text-to-SQL engines that promote increased productivity and self-service use in organizations, there are limited tools available to optimize individual queries, enforce consistency, …
In Their Own Voice: A Grounded Theory On Overcoming Internet Gaming Disorder, Jayson Carmona
In Their Own Voice: A Grounded Theory On Overcoming Internet Gaming Disorder, Jayson Carmona
Theses and Dissertations
Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is highly comorbid with depression, anxiety, sleep loss, lower productivity, and social isolation. The DSM-5 TR designates IGD as a condition for further study, however the ICD-11 has designed Gaming Disorder as a codified illness. While most studies look at IGD via a medical model lens focusing almost exclusively on symptomology, very little research explores the process of recovery in IGD. In this grounded theory inquiry, a theory of recovery from IGD is generated. Secondary internet data consisted of 113 posts on the subreddit /r/StopGaming on reddit.com. This resulted in 196 pages of data. Researcher used …

Theses and Dissertations
In recent years, the typical college student wearing a university sweatshirt and holding a backpack has evolved to include a rising population of adult learners returning to college (Morris, 2020). According to the Educational Advisory Board, adult learners are defined as students aged 25 and older (Morris, 2020). Of the approximately 20 million students enrolled in a degree-earning program in 2019, nearly 6.5 million were adult learners (Morris, 2020). The purpose of this qualitative case study is to understand adjunct faculty members' experiences, which led to positive intentions to use and actual usage of the LMS when assigned to instruct …
Ecological Drivers Of Habitat Selection And Maternal Survival In Female Mule Deer (Odocoileus Hemionus), Brady R. Knight
Ecological Drivers Of Habitat Selection And Maternal Survival In Female Mule Deer (Odocoileus Hemionus), Brady R. Knight
Theses and Dissertations
Understanding the ecological and biological factors that influence habitat selection by mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) is crucial for effective management. Mule deer select cover, forage, and water, each critical to energy acquisition and survival of mule deer. Here, we evaluate the factors that influence habitat selection and reproductive decisions by mule deer . In chapter one we evaluate the influence of treatments to restore quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) on habitat selection by mule deer. We hypothesized that mule deer would not use habitats randomly because of variability in nutrition and perceived risk of predation. We predicted that areas with aspen …
Mitochondrial Insoluble Aggregates In Aging And Alzheimer’S Disease Models: Cross-Species Proteomic Integration, Identification Of Conserved Candidates, And Pharmacological Disruption Of Eef-2 Interactions, Sonu Pahal
Theses and Dissertations
Protein aggregation within mitochondria emerges early in both aging and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and contributes to progressive loss of proteostasis. Insoluble mitochondrial aggregate fractions from Caenorhabditis elegans revealed extensive enrichment of metabolic and translational proteins that also appear in human Alzheimer hippocampal aggregates. Comparative analysis across age and genotype identified a conserved subset of aggregation-prone proteins, several of which cluster around elongation factor 2 (eEF-2), a regulator of ribosomal translocation and energy coupling. Cross-species integration defined a network in which eEF-2 links chaperones, metabolic enzymes, and RNA-binding proteins that co-aggregate in both human Alzheimer material and nematode models. Functional tests …

Toward Understanding Multi-Agent Decision Making In Complex Societies, Jonathan Skaggs
Toward Understanding Multi-Agent Decision Making In Complex Societies, Jonathan Skaggs
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation investigates Multi Agent Decision Making (MADM) within Complex Societies (CS), systems of interdependent agents whose collective behaviors emerge from local interactions. Such emergent dynamics are nonlinear and difficult to predict, posing significant challenges towards understanding how individual decisions scale to societal outcomes. Existing approaches often fall short of capturing the combined attributes of CS, including asymmetry, decentralization, and adaptivity. To address this gap, we introduce new models and analyses of agent strategies that explain how cooperation and stability can arise in CS. Structured around three interrelated projects, this dissertation enhances our comprehension of MADM in CS. The research …

Towards Resilient Data Governance: An Industry Study On Practitioner Perspectives On The Current State Of Data Governance, Anthony Mazzarella Iii
Towards Resilient Data Governance: An Industry Study On Practitioner Perspectives On The Current State Of Data Governance, Anthony Mazzarella Iii
Theses and Dissertations
Experts agree that data governance is crucial for managing data as an asset, yet in practice, it remains inconsistently defined, unevenly implemented, and poorly understood. Earlier industry studies offered valuable descriptive benchmarks of governance adoption and professional roles, but provided limited theoretical insight and little empirical evidence explaining how governance functions within organizations. Building on this foundation, the current research offers a more substantial and analytically rigorous contribution by transforming descriptive observations into empirical explanations. Through a collaborative academic–industry partnership, the study utilizes a global survey of 565 respondents (348 valid cases) to analyze governance structures, motivations, challenges, and the …

Elucidating The Oxidation Mechanisms In Cr2alb2 Using Density Functional Theory And Thermodynamic Modeling, Ushan Asela Adhikarige
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis investigates the oxidation behavior of Cr2AlB2 surfaces using density functional theory calculations combined with thermodynamic modeling. Our analysis encompassed surface stability assessments, oxygen adsorption studies on various surfaces, and thermodynamic insights into oxidation mechanisms. Surface stability assessments reveal that the (010) surface terminated with an Al layer exhibits the lowest surface energy. Oxygen adsorption studies on the (010), (111), and (021) surfaces demonstrate strong dissociative adsorption with binding energies ranging from -4.72 to -4.22 eV depending on coverage. Thermodynamic analysis shows that elevated temperatures reduce oxidation favorability, while increased oxygen partial pressure enhances it. The study reveals that …
A Space Propulsion Concept Based On Inertial Confinement: Exploring Nuclear Fusion Utilizing Polywell Geometry, Preeti Nair
A Space Propulsion Concept Based On Inertial Confinement: Exploring Nuclear Fusion Utilizing Polywell Geometry, Preeti Nair
Theses and Dissertations
Nuclear fusion propulsion represents a promising solution for future interplanetarymissions due to its high energy density and potential for continuous power generation. However, existing fusion propulsion systems face significant limitations, particularly in achieving stable plasma confinement. The Polywell concept, introduced by physicist Robert Bussard in 1985, offers advantages through its compact, polyhedral geometry that is wellsuited for spacecraft applications where mass and volume constraints are critical. Despite these advantages, Polywell designs have encountered stability challenges in maintaining the electric potential well over time. Plasma instabilities induced by magnetic fields disrupt containment and reduce fusion efficiency, limiting overall performance and scalability …

A Climatology Of Northern Plains Tornadoes With Regard To Radar Coverage, Charles Richie Ii
A Climatology Of Northern Plains Tornadoes With Regard To Radar Coverage, Charles Richie Ii
Theses and Dissertations
Tornadoes are among the costliest and deadliest severe weather events in the United States. Doppler weather radar is one of a meteorologist’s most useful tools for early detection of tornadoes. However, there are several notable areas across the Northern Plains (Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota) where the National Weather Service’s (NWS) radar coverage exceeds 10,000 feet above radar level, leaving an effective “radar gap” where tornado detection becomes increasingly challenging, if not impossible in some cases. Even within these radar gaps, the NWS is still responsible for issuing Tornado Warnings to fulfill their mission of protecting life and …

Computational Expressions Of Void Reactions In Extended Chemical Reaction Network Models, Aiden J. Massie
Computational Expressions Of Void Reactions In Extended Chemical Reaction Network Models, Aiden J. Massie
Theses and Dissertations
Chemical Reaction Networks (CRNs) are a system of abstraction of real-world chemical dynamics. Each CRN system is defined as a pair of molecular species and reaction rules, which consume a set of reactant species and create a new set of product species. In this paper, we investigate the simple class of void reactions, which cannot create new species and are computationally weak with small-enough sizes in basic CRNs. Here, we study their computational expression in more powerful extended CRN models. Specifically, we consider the Step CRN model, in which new species are added into the system through a sequence of …

Experimental And Computational Insights Into Reservoir Rock Mechanics And Petrophysical Properties, Prasad Pothana
Experimental And Computational Insights Into Reservoir Rock Mechanics And Petrophysical Properties, Prasad Pothana
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation investigates the influence of stress, mineralogy, and microstructure on the elastic and transport properties of reservoir rocks. A multi-scale framework integrating laboratory measurements, petrophysical inversion, and discrete-element simulations is developed to quantify the stress-dependent behavior of heterogeneous sedimentary formations relevant to hydrocarbon production and CO2 sequestration.
Core-scale experiments quantify velocity–effective stress and permeability–effective stress relationships in tight siliciclastic and mixed lithologies. Results demonstrate that pore-throat collapse and microcrack closure under confining stress cause systematic reductions in permeability and acoustic velocities. The derived empirical functions provide predictive capability for estimating in-situ stress effects on reservoir performance and time-lapse seismic …
Road Surface And Subsurface Monitoring Using Machine Learning, Koduah Amoako
Road Surface And Subsurface Monitoring Using Machine Learning, Koduah Amoako
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis presents a comprehensive, non-invasive framework for real-time monitoring of road surface and subgrade conditions using acoustic sensing and machine learning. Traditional Tire-Road Coefficient of Friction (TRCF) estimation techniques often rely on intrusive sensors, offline data analysis, or laboratory measurements, making them impractical for real-time applications. The present research introduces an alternative approach that utilizes the acoustic emissions generated by tire-road interaction to infer both surface friction and subsurface integrity dynamically.Measurement microphones were mounted beneath a test vehicle to record tire-road noise signatures across different pavement textures and vehicle speeds. The collected acoustic signals were processed using Fast Fourier …
