A Study Of Thermal Responses Of A Body Of Complex Geometry To A Moving Heat Source, J. Norman Smith Aug 1967

A Study Of Thermal Responses Of A Body Of Complex Geometry To A Moving Heat Source, J. Norman Smith

Theses and Dissertations

The effect of the fusion welding process upon the metals being welded is a matter of great interest and has been the subject of much investigation, both theoretical and experimental. The properties of metals are determined by the structure of their crystals (within limits for any given metal), and the crystalline structure is determined by heating and cooling rates. Thus the knowledge of temperatures, and heating and cooling rates, becomes the key to understanding these effects of heating. Since the greatest part of fusion welding is done using a gas torch or an electric arc, the necessary theoretical study is …

Unionism In The Field Of Banking, William Gardiner Aug 1967

Unionism In The Field Of Banking, William Gardiner

Theses and Dissertations

In the forty-five years since the first labor bank was chartered, unions have enjoyed little success in organizing bank employees. Unions now face declining membership unless white-collar workers can be convinced of the value of unionism, so bank workers, as one of the rapidly growing elements of the white-collar population, are being closely scrutinized as potential union candidates.

The unique aspects of the banking industry have in the past dissipated drives of any 1113.gnitude directed at individual segments of the industry, while rendering any organizational campaign across the entire banking front unfeasible. The close relationship between worker and management, the …

Theses and Dissertations

The depth distribution of goldeye, Hiodon alosoides, and yellow perch, Perea flavescens. was studied in Moccasin Bay on the Little Missouri Arm of Garrison Reservoir, North Dakota, using a specially constructed vertical gill net (June through August, 1966). Ten other species were captured in relatively small numbers. Throughout the summer nearly all goldeye were caught at night in the upper ten feet of water. Indications were that goldeye depth distribution was affected more by light and feeding habits than by the limnological factors measured. Small numbers of yellow perch caught in June indicated no distinct depth preference; however, all yellow …

Computer Effects On Traditional Management Organizational Structures, Jhon D. Pietila

Theses and Dissertations

With the implementation of computer technology into modern company management, the very principles and concepts upon which the theory of management fundamentals are based, namely Planning, Organizing, Directing, and Controlling, are in jeopardy.

This study attempts to relate automation to organization and management and to explain how the computer has affected the traditional structural elements of managerial organization and decision making. Just what type of organizational structure will fit in where automation predominates? Line? Functional? Staff? Committee? Or some sort of combination? Indeed, are any of these traditional methods today even appropriate?

The ADP displaced worker situation is portrayed and …

Union Response To Technological Change, William E. Hart May 1967

Union Response To Technological Change, William E. Hart

Theses and Dissertations

Basic to the development of featherbedding are the fear of displacement and resistance to the use of the machine. Featherbedding grew out of an environment of violence in which destruction of machinery was frequent and represents a more civilized (sic) manner by which workers can protect their employment opportunities. Since the plight of workers affected by technological change concerns many groups of workers in the economy, different attitudes toward displacement and technological change are examined in this study.

Clearly apparent is the fact that featherbedding is part of the larger problem of technological displacement •. As industrial and governmental techniques …

Geographical Characteristics Of Early Mormon Settlements, John Haws Baum

Theses and Dissertations

Considerable literature has been written about the Mormons and their settlement of the lands within the Great Basin; yet no one has produced a systematic study which analyzes the following geographical factors: What pattern of land occupancy was actually used by these early pioneers? Which physical characteristics determined the selection of a site for the Mormon village? What type of city survey pattern was instigated as towns were established along the eastern margin of the Great Basin? What was the relationship between the forts and the settlements in their lay-out patterns? As these questions were systematically analyzed new findings were …
