An Historical Study Of Adult Education Programs Of The Brigham Young University From 1921 To 1966, Keith Lowell Smith

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of the study is to record the history of Adult Education programs of the Brigham Young University. Such a history has not been written although two master's theses and one doctor's thesis have treated some phases of the study. George S. Haslam, Chairman of the B.Y.U. Ogden Center for Continuing Education, explored in his master's thesis the History of the Policy Making Groups of the Brigham Young University particularly as they have reference to adult education. A thesis on the establishment of the Audio Visual Department of B.Y.U. was completed in 1959 by Paul S. Smith and Dr. …

The Relationship Of Non-Academic High School Variables To College Achievement And Participation In Selected Extra-Curricular Activities, Francis Leslie Pavek Jan 1968

The Relationship Of Non-Academic High School Variables To College Achievement And Participation In Selected Extra-Curricular Activities, Francis Leslie Pavek

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to investigate the following general problem: Can non-academic high school achievements be predictive of the first-semester male freshmen performance at the University of North Dakota in regard to grade point average (GPA) and selected extracurricular activities (SECA)? Three sub-problems that were looked at in order to answer the above question were:

1. What is the relationship between non-academic high school achievement in six areas (science, art, writing, leadership, music, and dramatics) and actual first-semester GPA?

2. What is the relationship between non-academic high school achievement in the above six areas with selecteu extracurricular participation …

Observations On The Life History Of The Goldeye, Hiodon Alosoides (Rafinesque), In Moccasin Bay On The Little Missouri Arm, Garrison Reservoir, North Dakota, Robert N. Hieb Jan 1968

Observations On The Life History Of The Goldeye, Hiodon Alosoides (Rafinesque), In Moccasin Bay On The Little Missouri Arm, Garrison Reservoir, North Dakota, Robert N. Hieb

Theses and Dissertations

The life history and population structure of goldeye, Hiodon alosoides (Rafinesque), in Moccasin Bay, Garrison Reservoir, North Dakota, were investigated during 1966 and 1967. This species had not been commercially exploited in this impoundment, but current populations indicate that a commercial fishery can be supported.

A gill net fished from the surface to the bottom captured 885 goldeye in 1966. Total-length, weight, and sex were recorded and scale samples collected. The length-frequency of the catch was plotted, and average rate of growth of seven year-classes was calculated by examination of scales from 365 fish. Length-weight relationships and sex ratios were …

Geologic And Limnologic History Of Glovers Pond, Northwestern New Jersey, J. Mark Erickson Jan 1968

Geologic And Limnologic History Of Glovers Pond, Northwestern New Jersey, J. Mark Erickson

Theses and Dissertations

Glovers Pond is a temperate, dimictic lake, 1.25 miles southwest of the town of Johnsonburg, Blairstown 7.5' Quadrangle, northwestern New Jersey. The Paleozoic Kittatinny, Jacksonburg, and Martinsburg Formations, in fault contact with each other, crop out in the vicinity of the lake. The lake has a maximum depth of 9.5 meters and occupies a glacially modified and dammed fault valley currently being infilled concentrically by .four types of sediment. Basim1ard these are: (1) peat, (2) marl, (3) "transitional", calcareous, organic-rich silt, and (4) gyttja. Glovers Pond is thermally and chemically stratified. The hypolimnion is undersaturated with CaCO3; tl1is prohibits deposition …

The Geology Of The Newburg-South Westhope Oil Fields, Bottineau County, North Dakota, Hussein Marafi Jan 1968

The Geology Of The Newburg-South Westhope Oil Fields, Bottineau County, North Dakota, Hussein Marafi

Theses and Dissertations

The Newburg and South Westhope oil fields of the northeastern part of the Williston Basin are essentially one continuous secondary stratigraphic oil trap as determined by well log studies. The reservoir rocks in the two fields are carbonates present near the top of the Mississippian Ratcliffe interval and sandstone present in the basal unit of the Triassic Spearfish Formation. The two "pays” are separated by the post-Mississippian erosional unconformity which truncated the Ratcliffe beds.

The two fields are marked with depressions formed as a result of the dissolving of deep seated, presumably Devonian, salt beds and complementary gradual subsidence of …

A Study Of The Motion Of Air Bubbles Moving Unrestrained In Water, Donald H. Hunger Jan 1968

A Study Of The Motion Of Air Bubbles Moving Unrestrained In Water, Donald H. Hunger

Theses and Dissertations

This study was designed to improve understanding of the motion of air bubbles in water, in order to make possible more precise mass transfer calculations.

An accurate, low cost photographic technique was developed for studying the trajectory of air bubbles rising unrestrained in water.

The effect of several variables on velocity and direction of bubble movement was studied. These include: equivalent bubble radius; temperature; contamination; release pressure; vessel size, shape and construction material, and orientation and size of the capillary tube from which the bubbles were released.

Air bubble velocities in this work were generally low, as compared to the …
