Background: Lower inhibitory control has been shown to associate with greater risk for obesity in adolescence. On average, females have moderately higher rates of behavioral inhibitory control than males. These difference in inhibitory control across sex may influence overeating and development of obesity. This study examined whether sleep duration and sleep quality are associated with food-related inhibitory control and whether this association is moderated by biological sex. This quantitative causal-comparative study examined whether early recuperativeDepartment of Education (DOE) Coordinated Early Intervening Services (CEIS) could significantly impact the number of underperforming general education students targeted for special education services resulting from not meeting Math and Reading grade-level state standards. Approximately 1400+ students were randomly selected from several elementary, middle, and high schools and enrolled for four years in CEIS in the Equliebeh School District. "This Unshakable Dandy": The Life And Work Of Heinrich Maria Davringhausen (1894–1970), Jacob M. Robinson

This thesis is a monographic study of Heinrich Maria Davringhausen (1894–1970), an artist best-known for his contributions to the art of interwar Germany—and the political and historical contexts of his time. It examines his pre-1918 emergence as an avant-garde artist, asserts a more prominent place for his role in the development of German Post-Expressionism (commonly known as Neue Sachlichkeit or Magic Realism), and broadly overviews the increasingly abstract paintings he produced after fleeing Germany in early 1933, eventually settling in the South of France as Henri Davring.

Air pollution in developing nations presents a significant health threat; India's reliance on coal to meet increasing electricity demands and the non-compliance of coal plants with emission regulations worsen air pollution, resulting in considerable health risks. In this paper, I estimate the effect of exposure to coal plants on birth weight using data from the 2019-21 Demographic Health Survey (DHS) and the Central Electricity Authority's data on coal plants in India. A linear regression controls for confounding factors, including village and birth cohort effects, as well as birth and household variables. I find that an additional gigawatt (GW) increase in …

Pesticides are used widely to control weeds and pests in agricultural settings but harm non-target aquatic organisms. We examined the effect of short-term exposure (one week) to pesticide mixtures (low dose: 0.5 μg/L Roundup®, 0.5 μg/L 2,4-D, and 0.4 μg/L atrazine; high dose: 1 μg/L Roundup®, 1 μg/L 2,4-D, and 0.8 μg/L atrazine) on American oyster (Crassostrea virginica, an important shellfish and seafood species) under controlled laboratory conditions. Histological analyses demonstrated the atrophy in oysters' gills, digestive glands, and connective tissue. The dominant role psychosocial factors play in physical healing and disability perceptions of individuals with upper extremity (UE) conditions has been documented repeatedly in the literature for over 40 years. This population is at particular risk given the number of occupations requiring the functional use of one or both UEs for successful performance. Leucine-rich alpha-2-glycoprotein 1 (LRG1) has become a major topic of research due to an increasing number of studies demonstrating its unique role in the pathogenesis of multiple human diseases including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. LRG1 has recently been identified as an adipokine, a signaling molecule secreted by adipose tissue. Furthermore, it has been correlated with intercellular signaling that promotes diet-induced hepatosteatosis and insulin resistance in mice. The application of environmental DNA (eDNA) has improved the ability of humans to detect the existence and geographical distribution of aquatic organisms. The present study highlights the development and application of eDNA techniques to detect rough-footed mud turtles and yellow mud turtles in different areas in Texas. Both mud turtle species were successfully detected in lakes/resacas using direct eDNA sampling techniques. Moreover, passive eDNA sampling techniques were conducted using different membrane filters to detect mud turtle species. As global energy demands have risen in the past decades, various species of microalgae have been chosen and used as sources of lipids for third-generation biofuel. I selected two species of green microalgae, Bracteacoccus sp. and Tetrastrum sp., from isolates from South Texas to determine their potential as sources of biofuel. For comparison, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was used as a model organism. The degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) by nickel sulfide supported on graphene oxide (NiS/GO) and cobalt sulfide supported on graphene oxide (CoS/GO) composite materials was investigated. The catalysts were studied to determine the optimal conditions for BPA degradation using electrocatalysis. Electrocatalytic trials were performed using varying parameters, which included electrolyte concentrations of 1.0 g/L, 2.0 g/L, and 4.0 g/L Na2SO4, pHs of 2, 4, and 6, and constant currents of either 0.100 A or 0.200 A. Health professionals have explored ways to promote adherence to physical activity and healthy behavior. Evidence shows self-regulation to be a determinant of physical activity. This study investigated the relationship between self-regulation strategy usage and levels of physical activity participation. This paper presents findings from a mixed-method study involving ten campus principals in District A, South Texas, post-pandemic. Qualitatively, the study explored the principals' perspectives on restructuring their campuses to address achievement gaps while maintaining organizational health. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the integration of technology in classrooms. This has highlighted the need for a deeper understanding of how students experience these learning environments. In response, this case study explored how students experience blended learning in post emergency learning through a digital equity lens. Type 2 diabetes affects more than one-quarter of older adults in the United States. Many older adults manage type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the context of marriage, although few studies have acknowledged the effect the illness has on marital quality. The current study examined how the presence of T2D in later life relates to marital quality, and how positive health behaviors--diet, physical activity, and sleep--can moderate the relationship between T2D and marital quality. Background: Achilles tendinopathy is a common and debilitating condition among female ballet dancers due to the large repetitive loading forces placed on their Achilles tendons during rehearsals and performances. The late Victorian artist Evelyn De Morgan's paintings have been analyzed and interpreted through the lens of her many stylistic influences by past critics and current art historians. This thesis seeks to restore 19th-century Spiritualism as the central influence on the subject matter and style of De Morgan's paintings. This is particularly true of works concerned with the struggles of mortal life and the moment of death, based on her anonymously published text The Result of an Experiment.
