The Reliability And Validity Of The Modified Aahper Fitness Test As Applied To Freshmen College Males At The University Of North Dakota, Paul O. Soderberg

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis topic was basically concerned with two phases. The first phase of the study was to determine the reliability of the Modified AAHPER Fitness Test. The second phase of the study was to determine the validity of this same test. Test administrations were given in a one week period.

The reliability was established by the test-retest method. Thirty-seven subjects participated in two test periods. The validity was established by comparing nineteen subjects' results on a criterion test, to their results on the first administration of the Modified AAHPER Test Items.

All items of the Modified AAHPER Test were found …

Viewer Oriented Art Forms, D. Gay Massee Jan 1970

Viewer Oriented Art Forms, D. Gay Massee

Theses and Dissertations

For purposes of clarity, art forms which attempt to affect the viewer through exaggerated means based on sensory appeal, are termed 'viewer oriented.' This thesis discusses the origin, development, and implications of these forms.

The past is examined for possible links to the present. Contemporary forms are considered more specifically. My own work is used as further reference.

It was found that the main body of viewer oriented works in the past had occurred within the sponsoring power institutions in a functioning role. As technological improvements increased, the artist's role in society lessened. Freed from restraints of established tradition, art …

Surficial Lineaments And Their Structural Implications In The Williston Basin, A. Kirth Erickson Jan 1970

Surficial Lineaments And Their Structural Implications In The Williston Basin, A. Kirth Erickson

Theses and Dissertations

Lineaments of apparent geostructural origin are observable on air photos of the Williston basin. The pattern formed by these lineaments has the appearance of a broad system of interconnecting wrench faults such as occur on the adjacent Canadian shield. On this basis it is hypothesized that a broad system of left-lateral wrench faults may underlie the Williston basin region and possibly the entire continental foreland structural province.

Structures in the Williston basin are readily adaptable to this interpretation. The Nessen anticline appears to consist of a north-south realignment of a N. 40° E.- trending Precambrian high which was segmented by …

William Langer's Resurgence To Political Power In 1932, Gordon W. Johnson

Theses and Dissertations

The intent of this paper is to uncover the political activity of William Langer from the Morton County State’s Attorney days of 1914 to his election as governor of North Dakota in 1932.

The first bold signs of Langer’s entertaining political ambitions came during his break with the original Nonpartisan League leaders during the time he served as North Dakota's Attorney General, 1916-1920. The Independent Voters Association helped him to realize a measure of political strength when they used him as a candidate for governor in 1920. Even though defeated, Langer's political career was just beginning. He used the years …

The Effects Of Alcohol On Three Levels Of Complex Human Behavior, Grady Vancil Maraman Jan 1970

The Effects Of Alcohol On Three Levels Of Complex Human Behavior, Grady Vancil Maraman

Theses and Dissertations

That alcohol affects human behavior has been known for centuries. However, how and why it affects behavior has not been precisely established despite extensive research and study. The inconsistent action of alcohol at different doses on different tissue systems and on different response systems has been well documented (Kalant 1 referenced in 39). The exact sites of action of alcohol in the central nervous system and the relative influence of each of these sites in cognitive and motor behavior are not known. The primary purpose of this experiment was to study the effects of blood alcohol concentrations below 0.100 percent …

Data are presented comparing the results of three different methods of surface area estimation. Model pore electrodes were also prepared and oxidized to study the reactions in a pore. Data for constant current oxidations of these electrodes is given. The second section deals with the potentiostatic oxidations of silver in alkaline electrolyte. Data are presented on the total charge acceptance versus applied potential for a potential …

An Optimization Technique Applied To The Determination Of Orthotropic Material Properties Using Dynamic Response Test Data, Ronald L. Webster Aug 1969

An Optimization Technique Applied To The Determination Of Orthotropic Material Properties Using Dynamic Response Test Data, Ronald L. Webster

Theses and Dissertations

A knowledge of the behavior of a material under loading similar to expected service loading is required before that material can be used effectively in the design process. Without sufficient mechanical properties data, the design process degenerates to a time consuming and often costly "build, test and modify" type of program. Obviously, this trial and error approach leaves much to be desired.

A Computer Procedure For The Identification Of Beam, Spring, And Damping Parameters Of An N-Mass Model Using Transient Data, Lynn A. Christiansen Aug 1969

A Computer Procedure For The Identification Of Beam, Spring, And Damping Parameters Of An N-Mass Model Using Transient Data, Lynn A. Christiansen

Theses and Dissertations

If, however, one could develop a model for a given physical system, that is a model which can be described in terms of lumped masses, springs beams, and dashpots and then identify the parameter simply by processing acceleration data such as that obtained from drop tests or shaker tests, the task of identification is greatly simplified.

A Thermodynamic Approach To The Study Of Phase Equilibria In The Sodium-Potassium Alloy System I. The Phase Diagram For Nak At Atmospheric Pressure ; Ii. High Pressure Phase Studies, Donald Ray Anderson

Theses and Dissertations

Ultra-pure reagents, platinum resistance thermometry and modern inert atmosphere glove box facilities have made possible a detailed examination of the NaK system at atmospheric pressure. A thermoanalytical study of solid-liquid phase equilibria in the NaK alloy system was conducted in the tetrahedral press to 55 kbars to investigate possible intermediate compound formation and shifting of the invariant points at various pressures. An expected shift in the eutectic composition to lower potassium content with an increase in the halt temperature on increasing pressure was confirmed. A merging of the meritectic and eutectic points at 343 ±2°K and 37 ±3 kbars occurred …
